General Description

We seek experienced self-starting candidates who are professional, flexible, have excellent oral communication skills, and enjoy working and collaborating in a variety of elementary and high school settings with a variety of students, parents and staff. We seek individuals who have experience with technology and can learn and interpret academic vocabulary throughout the grade span. We count on our interpreters to provide the necessary access of our students who are deaf or heard of hearing to educational experiences throughout a school day.
General description
Facilitates communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and teachers, staff members, and peers within an educational environment, using a variety of manual and verbal communication systems in a highly proficient manner reflecting the affect of the speaker and/or signer. The Interpreter for Deaf/Hard of Hearing facilitates communication through the use of sign-to English and English-to-sign skills. This position requires course work, Level 4 certification, and competency using manual sign systems.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Interprets for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) in a variety of educational settings, including, but not limited to, classroom environments, assemblies, recess, noon sport leagues, and counseling sessions using various sign language systems and voice interpretation at a normal conversational rate
- Interprets a wide range of curriculum, including scientific and advanced placement topics
- Consults with the teachers of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, general education staff and typical students on the effective use of an interpreter
- Provides voice interpretation to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing as needed
- Collaborates with IEP teams to standardize signs in an educational setting
- Under the direction of the teacher of the deaf or hard of hearing, performs record keeping, monitoring IEP or special education related activities that support student learning
- Provides assistance to the classroom teachers as required; assists in filing, duplicating and preparing instructional materials
- Interprets and provides instruction as needed to individuals or small groups of students who are deaf or hard of hearing; reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher
- Follows professional conduct guidelines to guard against the development of inappropriate personal relationships with students
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
Requirements
Education: Possession of an associate's degree in American Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education or related field is preferred.
Experience: At least one year of experience providing instructional support in an educational setting is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Specialized knowledge of expressive and receptive forms of sign language systems, which may include American Sign Language, Conceptually Accurate Signed English, Signed Exact English, Manually Coded English, and Pidgin Signed English
- Interpreting strategies and techniques necessary to accommodate individual needs of students in a variety of educational settings
- Foundational concepts of deaf culture
- Curriculum used in educational settings from preschool through secondary schools
- Sufficient skills to exercise extreme patience when dealing with students and staff
Abilities:
- Requires the ability to speak and write English clearly with proper structure
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Interpret and communicate fluently with high proficiency (over 80% of content) in the sign language system appropriate to the individual needs of the students
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality when dealing with private and sensitive information
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the communication process between persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and the needs of the persons involved in that process
- Well-developed arm, hand, and finger dexterity in order to perform advanced sign language interpretation for up to twenty-five hours per week
- Visual acuity to see information to be voiced (such as sign language and facial expressions) and detect speech patterns
- Hearing acuity sufficient to understand information to be interpreted in a variety of educational environments
- Facial dexterity to produce readable mouth movements for specific sign language expressions
- Sufficient manual dexterity to produce readable sign language through movement of fingers and arms
- Perform all aspects of the position
Licenses and certificates
To qualify for the certified Interpreter, applicant must possess one of the following certifications:
- Educational Interpreter Performance Evaluation (EIPA), level 4 or above
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
- American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (ACC1), level 4 or above
- NAD certification, level 4 or above
- Educational Signs Skills Evaluation Interpreter (ESSE-1), level 4 or above
Interpreters who have not yet obtained the required certification must be eligible for a certification waiver from the California Department of Education and must fulfill one of the following requirements in order to be placed on the eligibility list:
- provide proof of having taken one of the certification exams listed above, along with the score achieved
- complete the Boys Town National Research Hospital Prescreening Assessment, administered by SBCEO or by an organization recognized by SBCEO.

Being an on-call employee means that your work schedule is not guaranteed, hours worked could range from 0 - 40 hours a week, depending on office needs. Hours of Work
Hours vary during core business hours typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evening assignments may be available to provide secretarial support for community meetings. On-Call assignments may be of a limited duration and may not be a consistent source of income. Current work assignments include departmental office coverage, mailroom services back-up, and various other administrative type assignments.
Working Conditions
The work settings are primarily in a municipal office environment where an individual may be required to sit for long periods of time.

- Assists with the development and execution of various types of interlocal cooperative agreements including mutual aid agreements.
- Supervises the operations of accounts receivable and accounts payable and serves as backup to staff as needed. Manages vendor and customer relations, setups, inquiries, and approvals related to quotes, wage rates, taxes, and billing. Ensures accurate record-keeping and efficient processing of payments, invoices, refunds, and customer billing for various taxes and fees.
- Collaborates with internal customers, managers, and directors to provide strategic procurement, contracting, and program support to fulfill adopted strategic priorities.
- Ensures that all city expenditures adhere to purchasing policy, procedures and applicable procurement law. Ensure accountability, compliance, and consistent interpretation and application with all current and applicable state and federal laws, agency policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Serves as the primary contact on procurement issues for federal and state auditors on annual audits. Responds to questions regarding procurement policies, compliance with laws and regulations, internal controls, variances, exceptions, and procurement methods and procedures.
- Solves complex technical and managerial problems utilizing an understanding of intra- and inter-departmental relationships where no precedent exists.
- Provides leadership and guidance to departmental staff in proper work methods and procedures; reviews multi-departmental activity for accuracy and compliance.
- Reviews and audits payment and billing entries, proactively resolving discrepancies. Provides leadership and guidance to the team on best practices, ensuring full compliance with GAAP. Addresses challenges promptly, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance and expertise to departments and city staff in the interpretation of purchasing requirements and procedures as prescribed by state and federal agency regulations, grant stipulations, and City policy. Recognizes and assesses strategic and operational risks and opportunities and addresses them appropriately during the procurement and contracting process.

Job Summary
The role of the Case Worker is to mitigate the impact of chronic 911 callers and to better protect our most vulnerable residents. The Case Worker facilitates access to social services and non-emergency medical services for vulnerable adults and families in crisis encountered by 911 responders within the Fire Department.Distinguishing Characteristics: The Case Worker is a full-time civilian position working within the Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program reporting to a Chief Officer. This position works in conjunction with Regional Crisis Response Agency Crisis Responders and other community partners. The Case Worker I is an entry-level level position within the Case Worker job series. This classification is reserved for those with an associate license and/or master's degree. An employee in the Case Worker I classification will move to the Case Worker II classification when they are able to demonstrate that they have an independent clinical practice license from the Washington State Department of Health.

Hours of Work
During the 9 weeks of summer adventures, attendance is extremely necessary for all staff positions. Staff are seasonal positions that support a mandatory staff to camper ratio. Please give us at least a month notice for any requested days off throughout the summer.
Typical day is 7-8 hours per day between 9am - 5pm. Monday - Friday's between, June 29th - August 28th. Work schedule may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather/air quality days. Training Days and times will be scheduled in the middle of June.
Working Conditions & Physical Activities
- Performs work in settings indoor and outdoor, including multipurpose rooms, parks, playgrounds, beaches, trails, and recreation sites.
- Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible. Exposure to insects and wildlife is possible when out on a trail in our region. Staff will receive training and other preventative measures upon hire.
- Walk/Hike 3-5 miles for four days consecutively.
- The job requires frequent light lifting and carrying (15-20 lbs.) up to five miles, and infrequent heavy lifting of up to 50lbs.

Job Summary
The program assistant supports and assists with programs, facilities, services, and events within Parks and Community Services (PCS) and serves as a primary customer service agent.
This assignment is for a seasonal, ongoing, non-benefited on-call program assistant, to support year-round community building events including Lunar New Year, Dia de Los Muertos, Outdoor Summer Movie Series, Celebrate Kirkland July 4th Parade, Harvest Festival, and many other events hosted by PCS, plus the LED screen rental program. This position is anticipated to begin in February and be ongoing with hours varying, usually 15- 40 hours per week depending on need and is not to exceed 1040 hours per year. Most work will be done Monday-Friday at Kirkland City Hall, with occasional weekend or evening shifts primarily for events. The on-call program assistant must be available to work July 4 and the days immediately preceding and following the holiday.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, the capacity to prioritize tasks and work on a variety of projects with competing deadlines. Candidates should have the ability to be adaptable to new situations, ideas, and challenges and must be able to take initiative and work proactively. This position will work closely with the Community Building Events team to help plan and carry out multiple events. Primary tasks include purchasing, vendor and parade entry support, volunteer recruitment and record keeping, marketing and outreach support, LED screen operation and other administrative functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of financial management principles and municipal budgeting practices. Knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques.
- Knowledge of governmental fund accounting principles and practices and financial reporting standards.
- Advanced skill in the use of spreadsheet software and related graphics capabilities. Ability to develop charts, graphs, and other explanatory materials as needed. Knowledge of database and report-writing software.
- Ability to learn and effectively use financial software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and routinely handle sensitive department materials.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff. Ability to tactfully and effectively assure timely flow of department materials.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information verbally and in writing and to support presentations with graphs and charts.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, elicit cooperation, resolve conflicts and coordinate a diverse group of individuals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field.
- Experience: 2 years professional level experience in budget, finance, or accounting preferably in a municipal setting.
- Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Work is conducted in a typical office setting. Position typically requires extended periods of sitting while performing keyboard operations.
- Due to the demands of budget deadlines, occasional evening or weekend work is required.
- Attendance at Council meetings is occasionally required; meetings are held in the evenings or outside normal office hours.
