POSITION SUMMARY:
To efficiently manage the day-to-day operation of the shift manufacturing function while producing top quality and safe beverage products following company policies and procedures.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.
- Directs a work force of between 15 and 20 hourly employees, including line machine operators, lab technicians and mechanics.
- Works closely with other shift production supervisors for exchange of information and to assure continuity of production activities across shifts.
- Partner with Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance of production equipment; Quality Control Manager to coordinate quality control activities and corrective actions; Warehouse Supervisors to coordinate availability of materials stored in warehouse; Logistics Supervisor and outside vendor logistics dispatchers to coordinate Just-in-Time synchronization of raw material deliveries.
- Disseminate production procedures and union contract, ensures adherence to work rules and administers disciplinary action.
- Monitor equipment operation, coordinating raw materials, preparing reports, motivating and supervising plant employees.
- Supervise production personnel to achieve production efficiency and cost goals.
- Supervise employees to manufacture quality products in adherence to company quality policies and procedures.
- Achieve accurate work order processing and receiving of raw materials (bottles, cans, etc.).
- Develop and monitor employee performance and perform employee evaluations.
- Maintain a safe environment and enforce safety procedures and practices.
- Achieve standard efficiency goals and operate with breakage under 0.25% on a consistent basis. Operate with raw material loss under 1%.
- Ensure that production schedule is completed, and all production work orders are processed on a timely basis. Communicate with logistics personnel on any potential delays or deviations from schedule.
- Ensure that employees run equipment at target speeds, operating equipment effectively, attending to issues quickly and safely. Ensure operators report downtime and equipment issues accurately.
- Ensure that operators and lab technicians perform flavor changeovers with correct timing, correct product and correct materials, with minimum downtime and material loss. Investigate any deviations and report them for discussion and improvement.
- Monitor raw material usage and waste during shift maintaining awareness of syrup batch yields, bottle loss and low-fill rejects, etc. Contribute with practical suggestions to reduce waste.
- Review operator process and downtime logs, initial them in real time and take action to address repetitive issues. Ensure that operators have access to required process control blank sheets.
- Monitor production processes while on the production floor, researching opportunities for improvement and proposing solutions. Engage crew in line meetings or discussions of line issues in order to gather suggestions and improvements.
- Work closely with shift mechanics, discussing operational and mechanical issues and facilitating agreement to resolve repetitive issues. Submit maintenance work requests as dictated by operational issues.
- Monitor shift mechanics’ performance, ensuring prompt response to line issues and providing guidance related to production line priorities. Communicate performance issues to maintenance management and follow up on performance improvement plans and disciplinary action, if needed.
- Perform administrative duties effectively, including preparation of manning schedule for regular work week and overtime shifts, labor coding for payroll approval, and downtime reporting.
- Communicate with logistics and other supervisors to ensure adequate supply of raw materials to maintain production continuity across all shifts.
- Ensure that raw material shipments are accurately processed in inventory system and put away following SOP's and FIFO procedures. Ensure that used pallets and dunnage are returned following SOP’s.
- Perform safety inspections of production areas monthly. Ensure employees run equipment following safety best practices and SOP’s. Ensure that employees wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as determined by safety procedures. Report unsafe conditions, including those reported by employees. Report safety incidents and lost time accidents immediately.
- Report immediately any condition that may contaminate or make products and packages unsafe.
- Review operators’ process control and packaging inspection log sheets, ensuring inspections are taking place in a timely manner and take action to address operational issues reported.
- Report and take action in response to raw material quality issues, segregate defective materials, and ensure operators and lab technicians gather defective samples of product or raw materials including lot number information.
- Ensure that quality issues are addressed on a timely manner so that defects are kept to a minimum and product on hold is minimized.
- Ensure that subordinates maintain work station area and equipment clean, follow Housekeeping SOP's and keep cleaning tools in their proper location. Enforce and ensure that employees follow Good Manufacturing Practices as trained.
- Ensure that employees report at their stations in time and in uniform, take their breaks at specified times and do not leave work stations unattended.
- Report all attendance incidents via email and submit log sheet to HR on a daily basis.
- Perform other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:
- Five years manufacturing line supervisory experience.
- Beverage, food or other fast paced packaging line experience.
- Maintenance and quality control experience highly desirable.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Job Description
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of repetitive and non-repetitive bench or line mechanical subassembly and assembly operations of a skilled nature to produce products, also making required minor adjustments in the assemblies as needed. Determines methods and sequence of assembly operations where complete information is not readily available or follows assembly shop and production operation sheets, samples, drawings, schematic and verbal instructions to perform a wide variety of assembly operations such as wiring, component installation and hand soldering, utilizing power tools, and small hand tools such as soldering irons, wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers and pliers. Identifies and selects components to be integrated into subassembly and assembly units. Makes own set-ups, alignments and adjustments maintaining tolerance in accordance with instructions. Disassembles, modifies, reworks, refurbishes, reassembles, and tests units as required, and all other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows production drawings, sample assemblies and verbal instructions with close supervision. Understands and applies established acceptable workmanship practices to all facets of mechanical assembly.
- Interprets and works from schematics, drawings, work instructions and bills of material to understand the required parts and steps needed to complete the assigned assembly.
- Makes accurate mathematical calculations and uses precision measuring instruments as required.
- Uses a wide variety of hand and power tools to perform skilled fitting and assembly work. Inspect parts and performs basic tests.
- Tends machines, such as arbor presses or riveting machine, to perform force fitting or fastening operations on assembly line.
- Works at different work stations as production needs require. Works on line where tasks vary as different model of same article moves along line.
- Performs intermediate testing, assembly and or disassembly of mechanical assemblies using both traditional and non-traditional tooling such as multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power supply, function generator, LCD meter, screwdriver, torque wrench, standard wrench, etc.
- Mounts complex assembled components, such as transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and sockets, on chassis panel, requiring manual dexterity and the ability to work with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, volt meters and other related test instrumentation. Knowledge of cleaning, lead preparation, component mounting, parts orientation.
- Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture, or other holding device.
- Crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders, cements, press fits, or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place.
- May perform other general assembly tasks such as potting, encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, etching, impregnating, and color coding parts and assemblies.
- Adjusts or trims materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
- May perform hand soldering using a soldering iron.
- May perform work (soldering and general inspection) under microscope.
- Performs online go-not-go testing and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.
- Troubleshoots and replaces defects of finished products.
- Reworks and repairs defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.
- Follows safety procedures in the use and handling of flammable and hazardous chemicals required to meet all cleanliness specifications.
- Must be able to follow specific procedures and detailed instructions completely.
- Ensures that quality checks are completed throughout the manufacturing process.
- Records information on production records, logs and other report forms.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level mechanical assemblers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Summary of the position:
The Assembler position requires an individual to perform several duties as defined within the Assembly family.
This position is located at Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Value Stream Leader.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assemble compressors in assigned area using Work Center Instructions (WCI), Piping & Instrumentation instructions (P&I), Wiring Diagram (WD) and Bill of Material (BOM) and assembly drawings.
- Apply decals to machines, as needed.
- Utilize Andon signals per guidelines.
- Measure, cut, bend, fit small tubing to machine. Install tubing and fittings using hyferset.
- Install foam insulation on tubing and controls.
- Install heat trace tape to tubing and controls AND/OR bend large tubing with power bender per print or custom fit (Industrial).
- Assemble frames in assigned area, per BOM, or WCI.
- Assemble separator tanks in assigned area, using BOM, P&I or WCI.
- Assemble components to engines in assigned area, per BOM or WCI.
- Connect motor leads and connectors to power source per WD and BOM.
- Wire machines or packages, terminating wire harnesses or basic wiring in assigned area, per WD.
- Assemble couplings on engines/motors and air ends in assigned area, per WCI, BOM.
- Inspect finished machines at the end of process in assigned area, and receive them into finished goods.
- Align motor, air end and coupling in assigned area, using calipers, dial indicators and straight edge.
- Assemble and insulate enclosures and install on machine in assigned area, per BOM, WCI.
- Assemble mounted or remote cooler packs in assigned area, per BOM, WCI, WD and P&I.
- Terminate wiring for controls, basic panels, fan motors, etc. in assigned area, per WD and P&I.
- Test electrical controls/components per WCI, WD and P&I.
- Assemble and/or rework compressor packages and equipment.
- Requisition and stock materials and supplies.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School education or equivalent and a minimum of two years year post high school training/experience.
Professional experience:
- Minimum of five years' previous manufacturing assembly required.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Basic reading skills necessary to perform the functions of the job.
- Mechanical assembly ability, ability to read simple blueprints, wiring diagrams/drawings preferred.
- Prior forklift experience or completion of forklift training preferred.
- Working with various hand and pneumatic tools and various measuring tools.

Job Summary
This role is responsible for the daily administration, accuracy, and operational readiness of the organization’s Workforce Management (WFM) and workforce compliance systems. Serving as the system administrator and data steward, the position ensures timekeeping and scheduling configurations align with company policies, labor laws, union agreements, and payroll requirements.
