About the Role

As an Offset Second Press Operator, you’ll play a critical role in delivering exceptional print quality, ensuring client satisfaction, and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. Working closely with the First Press Operator, you’ll assist with press make-readies, equipment operation, and quality control while providing leadership and guidance to the press crew. This position is key to achieving productivity, quality, and safety goals.

What You’ll Do

• Follow all standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
  
• Verify job specifications, including paper size, color, ink, and other details.
  
• Monitor color and registration accuracy with demonstrated proficiency.
  
• Inspect printed sheets and make adjustments to correct spacing, ink distribution, and other quality issues.

• Re-thread paper and adjust tension rollers when web breaks occur.
  
• Provide training, direction, and support to junior crew members.

Plans and coordinates the pre-press department workflow in a manner which will consistently meet customer requirements and meet team and corporate profit goals. Provides leadership to all screen and digital pre-press production art personnel. Participates with Sales department on new design requests. Continually effects improvement in quality, methods and productivity by identifying waste and eliminating it. Provides technical knowledge and assistance to all areas.

DUTIES

Oversees daily screen and digital pre-press production art activities including file preparation, color management and proofing to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met.

• Schedules and monitors the daily pre-press production art workflow to ensure timely and efficient production.
• Controls and monitors processes; ensures in-process inspections are conducted.
• Works with sales, customer service and production teams to pre-plan orders, determine optimum processing methods, resolve artwork issues and clarify specifications.
• Oversees color management programs for screen and digital printing processes.
• Communicates with internal staff and customers as needed to provide technical assistance.
• Ensures a system for maintaining art files and archives.

Meets with and collaborates with Sales on new design requests.

• Determines scope of project.
• Recommends proper materials for project.
• Reviews nesting and various size elements.
• Assists Estimating with pricing.
• Provides technical guidance on structural elements of point-of-purchase (POP) displays.
• Collaborates with outside creative design personnel.

Management responsibilities.

• Conducts area meetings on a regular basis.
• Evaluates direct staff via the performance review process.
• Equitably interprets and enforces company policy within the area.
• Identifies, recommends and coordinates with manager and Human Resources, all decisions regarding hiring, training, evaluating, promoting and disciplining of associates consistent with corporate policies.
• Ensures training and cross training of staff.
• Keeps manager informed of problems adversely affecting the team; makes recommendations for corrective action.
• Ensures all safety practices and procedures are followed; provides appropriate training and equipment.

Responsible for quality improvement process.

• Develops process operator instructions and work instructions and conducts periodic audits of same.
• Ensures compliance with quality procedures including Blaze and First Article Inspections.
• Ensures timely response to formal and informal corrective action through the immediate use of problem solving tools to prevent reoccurrence.

Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Thorough knowledge of screen and digital printing processes.
• Thorough knowledge of print and color theory, and appropriate methods to produce required art and digital files.
• Thorough knowledge of various pre-press software and technologies such as Mac software, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Thorough knowledge of pre-press operations and printing processes, including file preparation, color correction, and proofing techniques.
• Considerable knowledge of structural point-of-purchase (POP) design elements.
• Working knowledge of electronic cutting equipment, methods and processes (i.e. Zund, Kongsberg, Routers, Plotters.)
• Considerable ability to identify, analyze and resolve production-related problems including troubleshooting file issues and quickly resolving technical challenges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Position Responsibilities:

• Obtain work package from the ready-to-work rack, work board, or assigned by Team Lead, or run previously set-up jobs by reviewing tie-ins from prior operators.

• Operate a computer to access information from prints, sketches, drawings, layout documents, and Boeing (BAC) specifications.

• Perform safety checks on machines, ensuring the area is clear of obstacles, power switches are off, and safety guards are installed.

• Move heavy materials, equipment, tools, and dies to the work area using stackers, Kalamar, die loaders, or overhead cranes, asking for assistance as needed.

• Check steam lines for cracks or cuts and verify o-rings are properly seated prior to hookup.

• Preheat dies and punches using electricity or steam, and verify temperature accuracy for hot dies with a temperature stick or pyrometer.

• Determine machine setup by reviewing work orders, tooling usage instructions, and die setup charts, making adjustments as required.

• Load and secure dies into the press, checking for defects and torquing as necessary.

• Examine tools, dies, and fixtures for damage, separating them using appropriate handling procedures.

• Set up press cycle programs using control panels or manual switches to adjust height, stroke, pressure, and cycle time.

• Develop patterns when necessary, cutting and tailoring materials like fiberglass and graphite to die requirements.

• Perform pull-outs on various types of metal and alloy tubes using a hydraulic tube pull-out machine.

• Verify that materials are free from burrs and debris, using hand deburring tools and denatured alcohol prior to forming operations.

• Consult with Team Lead and other personnel (e.g., engineering, planning, inspection) on process or job-related issues as required.

• Maintain a written tie-in book or electronic communication to coordinate with other shifts and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

• Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

• Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

The selected candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining slitter, rewinder, or flexographic press equipment to ensure production goals and quality standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate slitter, rewinder, or flexo press machines according to job specifications

• Perform job changeovers with minimal downtime

Pay: $24–$34/hr + $0.50 shift differential

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (+ peak overtime)

Fast-paced print manufacturing site seeking a hands-on technician to keep advanced digital presses — including HP Indigo platforms — running at top performance. This role focuses on uptime, rapid troubleshooting, and quality output.

What You’ll Do

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on digital press equipment
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control issues
• Partner with OEM support and field engineers on complex repairs
• Handle installs, upgrades, rebuilds, and critical components
• Respond quickly to downtime tickets and production issues
• Maintain service records and parts inventory
• Follow all safety and lockout/tagout procedures

What You Bring

• 2+ years of experience servicing digital presses or similar industrial production equipment
• Manufacturer training or certification on HP Indigo systems
• Experience supporting Series 3, Series 4, 18K, or 7250 platforms preferred
• Exposure to Canon inkjet equipment is a plus
• Solid skills in:
• Electrical and mechanical diagnostics
• PLCs, sensors, motion control, and servo/stepper systems
• Control wiring, panels, and safety circuits
• Reading schematics and ladder logic
• Root cause analysis and precision test instruments
• Able to work independently, prioritize repairs, and record work clearly
• Willing to work overtime and flexible schedules during peak production
• Team-oriented with strong communication habits

Education & Training

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Digital press or manufacturer certifications preferred
• Ongoing technical training and skills development encouraged
