Β The Pharmacy Technician 2 obtains new prescriptions and prescription refill information. The Pharmacy Technician 2 performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative/operational/customer support assignments. Performs computations. Typically works on semi-routine assignments.

The Pool Traveling Pharmacy TechnicianΒ 2 will be assigned a schedule to cover 3 locations in the Daytona area (Port Orange, Orange City and Ormond Beach). The Pharmacy Technician retrieves, counts, and measures drugs. Assists Pharmacist in price-checking and restocking of drugs. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer. Performs Pharmacy calculations, such as days supply for insulins, etc. Refers physicians' calls and any medical questions to pharmacist. May operate a cash register. Decisions are typically focus on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments. Works within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards, but has some latitude over prioritization/timing, and works under minimal direction. Follows standard policies/practices that allow for some opportunity for interpretation/deviation and/or independent discretion.

Required Qualifications
- Will travel based on assignment to the Daytona Area Pharmacies
- Must have an active license with the Board of Pharmacy in the appropriate state
- This role is considered patient facing and is part of Humana/Senior Bridge's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB.

Job description
This position requires the performance of all technical duties of a pharmacy technician. The employee will work under the direct legal supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacist manager. The position requires the ability to make critical decisions, facilitate stakeholder conflict resolution, work independently with minimal supervision, and solve problems. Three distinct areas of core responsibilities are defined:
- Processing, adjudicating, and filling retail prescriptions.
- Compounding non-sterile formulations per USP 795 guidelines (required)
- Compound sterile formulations per USP 797and 800 guidelines (required)
- Purchasing and inventory management
- Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Coordinates the effective operation of the technician workflow within the department.
- Participates in the quality assurance, performance improvement, and administrative activities of the department.
- Works in conjunction with the pharmacy supervisor to enforce all accountability standards outlined in current policies and procedures.
- Implements pharmacy objectives as determined by the pharmacy supervisory team.
- Knowledgeable of department metrics and productivity levels
- Oversees and maintains compliance with technical departmental competencies.
- Competent in the general responsibilities of a pharmacy purchaser, auditing, and billing coordinator
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) and registered to practice in TX
- Experience with non-sterile compounding (Required)
- Experience with sterile compounding (Required)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with critical care and acute care settings
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and pharmacy staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

Job Summary
Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders. High School graduate or general education diploma (GED) required.
Iowa: Effective July 1, 2010, all pharmacy techs working in Iowa pharmacies must be nationally certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). If enrolled in a technician training program, or not previously having worked as a pharmacy technician, must register as a pharmacy technician trainee within 30 days of starting technician training or employment. A technician trainee must become a nationally certified pharmacy tech within 12 months of starting tech employment or training. A pharmacy tech trainee who does not complete national pharmacy tech certification before expiration of the pharmacy tech trainee registration, must discontinue working as a pharmacy tech.
Minnesota: As of January 1, 2012 any individual registering for the first time as a technician needs to be 18 years of age or older. Must have active/current pharmacy technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy. For new technician registrants, the individual must complete a Sanford provided (or equivalent) pharmacy technician training program within 12 months of registration with the board.
North Dakota: Pharmacy Technicians must register as a Pharmacy Technician or Technician in Training with the ND Board of Pharmacy, before beginning employment in the pharmacy. An applicant for registration as a pharmacy technician in training must register for Sanford provided (or equivalent) ASHP accredited education and obtain national certification approved by the board of pharmacy within the board of pharmacy's timelines. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) are approved certification bodies. The registration as a pharmacy technician in training or pharmacy technician will continue as long as the applicant maintains a pharmacy technician-in-training or pharmacy technician license from the North Dakota board of pharmacy. Failure to obtain ASHP accredited education and National Certification before the board of pharmacy removes the technician in training license will result in termination of position.
South Dakota: Registration required within 30 days from the date of hire. Technicians registered with South Dakota Board of Pharmacy after July 1, 2014 will be registered as a technician-in-training and will have two years to complete training education and national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Failure to obtain National Certification within two years of registering as a technician-in-training will result in termination of position. Technicians registered with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy after July 1, 2011 will be required to obtain National Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board by July 1, 2014. Failure to obtain National Certification will result in termination of position. Technicians registered with South Dakota Board of Pharmacy before July 1, 2011 will be grandfathered in and not require national certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

This position provides education to fellow pharmacists, nursing and medical staffs, and others inside and outside the department while conducting CQI evaluations, and basic research promoting the safe, effective use of medications. Additional duties for the Senior Pharmacy Clinical Specialist position include precepting pharmacy students and pharmacy residents on clinical patient care rotations within areas of responsibility and contributing to fulfilling the organization's mission to provide innovative, personalized, cost-effective pharmaceutical care in a culture dedicated to quality and safety.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with other health care professionals as needed for problem resolution and/or achievement of identified patient specific goals.
- Serves as a mentor for Clinical Specialists and pharmacy residents on research projects. Precepts ASHP-accredited residency program residents, and students from affiliated colleges of pharmacy.
- Develops educational materials and provides educational programs for the pharmacy staff and other hospital personnel.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Processes all orders/requests accurately and efficiently, verifying appropriateness of all drugs in reference to the patientβs diagnosis, allergies, height and weight. Exercises good judgment in patient care decisions per performance standard and documents patient care activities and patient outcomes as impacted by pharmaceutical care and clinical interventions.
- Provides patient-specific and non-patient specific drug information support regularly.
- Serves as a pharmacy lead on policy and procedure reviews and responds timely to audit reports within areas of responsibility.
- Serves as a member on one or more Medical Staff committees and actively contributes to accomplishing the goals of the committee or subcommittee.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in developing medication therapy/disease state management protocols and/or dosing guidelines within specialty area.
- Provides pharmaceutical care in designated practice area(s) to patients from an advanced to expert level. Activities include, but are not limited to, proactive drug therapy reviews and monitoring, patient counseling, transitions of care including medication acquisition process support, and management of pharmacist based dosing protocols.
- Leads internal HM quality management and research program(s). Develops, implements, evaluates, and drafts reports of quality assurance program outcomes and conducts pharmacy research in concert with the departmental goals and objectives.
- Serves as an on-call resource in assigned roles as determined by manager (e.g. ID Stewardship, Investigational drugs, or general clinical).
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contributes to the evaluation of medications for the HM Formulary, and provision of pharmacoeconomically sound medication in area(s) of responsibility and avoiding medication-related complications. Participates in HM committees and initiatives involving medication use for the optimization of pharmacoeconomic benefits.
- Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize tasks for self and for specialty area of focus.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contributes regularly to intra-departmental, interdepartmental publications. Supports the Departmentβs ACPE delivery mission by providing ACPE programs and when needed, mentoring residentsβ preparation of ACPE programs.
- Participates in research projects to advance the pharmacy departmentβs goals and the pharmacy profession. Submits research and scholarly work for publication, platform presentations, and/or poster presentations. Gives presentations at local, state and national meetings, including in-services presentations to pharmacy, medical, nursing, and nutrition staff in area(s) of responsibility. Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a Sr. Pharmacy Clinical Specialist.
