Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Fellowship will provide New Graduate Nurse Practitioners (or Nurse Practitioners new to the pediatric inpatient or subspecialty environment) with an in-depth clinical experience in a specialized pediatric setting. This nine-month, full-time APRN Fellowship will build competency through hands-on direct care experiences, didactic classes, simulation, shadowing opportunities, and presentations. Fellows will gain experience in the assessment and management of children with acute and chronic neurologic disorders while working closely with neurology, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neurocritical care, and neurosurgery. Training emphasizes advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and collaborative management of complex neurologic conditions, while also fostering strong skills in family-centered care.

Developmental Medicine (outpatient)
The Developmental Medicine APRN Fellowship focuses on the specialized evaluation and care of children with neurodevelopmental and behavioral conditions from birth through young adulthood. Fellows will gain experience in comprehensive developmental assessments, diagnostic formulation, and multidisciplinary care planning for children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, learning differences, and other behavioral health needs. The program emphasizes collaboration with psychologists, therapists, physicians, and community resources to support long-term developmental outcomes and family-centered care.

This APRN Fellowship also offers the unique opportunity to train across both Neurosciences and Developmental Medicine, leveraging the shared patient populations and strong interdisciplinary collaboration between these pediatric specialties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide front-line care and coordination for pediatric patients, including assessment, diagnosis, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and family-centered care.
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians, APPs, and interdisciplinary team members on assigned patients during daily rounds.
  • Conduct patient assessments including medical histories and physical examinations and assist in diagnosing medical and developmental conditions.
  • Manage therapeutic regimens for patients with acute and chronic conditions according to approved clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in research initiatives, quality improvement projects, and interdisciplinary communication to enhance patient and family care.
  • Developmental Medicine schedule: 40 hours, (5) 8’s no nights, no weekends

Loma Linda University Health Care (LLUHC) and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) are major health-care institutions in Southern California. LLUCH is renowned as the preeminent facility for holistic pediatric care in Southern California. With nearly 250 beds, the Children’s Hospital has been designated as a Level I trauma center by the State of California and provides the highest level of trauma care within the Inland Empire four-county area. Each year, more than 15,000 children stay at the hospital and more than 125,000 children visit the hospital for ambulatory care. LLUCH is the sole children’s hospital for more than 1.2 million of California’s youth.

The Inland Empire Autism Assessment Center of Excellence (AAC) was established in direct response to a significant regional gap in quality comprehensive diagnostic evaluation services for the accurate and timely identification of ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Across two centrally located clinics, AAC provides the gold-standard of evaluation for children and adolescents up to 21 years old, where patients work with a transdisciplinary team of experts in the fields of neurology, neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, speech and language pathology, and occupational therapy. Since its inception (2016), AAC has served over 6,000 children and their families through the comprehensive diagnostic evaluation process and has established a reputation as the preeminent evaluation center in the region.

Job Requirements:

The Pediatric Psychologist/Neuropsychologist works within the Department of Pediatrics which provides direct clinical service to AAC, and potentially LLUHC and LLUCH. Primary areas of responsibility will include:

Direct Clinical Service

Must have ability to work with various people and departments to foster teamwork in the healthcare environment within Inland Empire Autism Assessment Center of Excellence (AAC). Is expected to have skill sets to work independently and with a transdisciplinary team. Requires ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of patient and healthcare information and work to transfer appropriate information to meet child/family need. This position will require that the candidate be able to provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, particularly those relevant to autism evaluations.
