Play an essential role in managing medically complex patients including complex stroke and SCI with hospitalist support. Unit located in acute care hospital with need for PM&R consultation on patients potentially requiring admission to IPR. This position also brings an opportunity to develop outpatient practice especially for continuing care post discharge including spasticity management procedures and EMG.

Innovative equipment and procedures are utilized, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center, including 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

Summary:

The RN Supervisor is accountable for supervising the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care to patients. Responsible in assisting the Director for analyzing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating processes and programs which enhance, strengthen and integrate the services comprising the nursing department. Summary:
The CRNA will employ multiple modalities, including regional anesthesia, MAC sedation and general anesthesia, in the operating room to provide adequate analgesia or anesthesia during surgical procedures. The CRNA scope of practice is defined by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the North Carolina Practice Act. Providers are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
The CRNA will work with an exceptional team who support full scope nurse anesthesia practice. Great mix of cases including general, orthopedics, urology, plastics, GYN, podiatry, dental, ENT, ophthalmology. Out of department procedures include endoscopy, cardioversions/TEE, and IR. There are no hearts or lungs. CRNAs function independently to provide labor epidurals on a designated labor and delivery tract.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs pre-anesthetic evaluations on patients utilizing established guidelines and administers appropriate pre-operative medications. Consults with physicians as appropriate. Ensures that any patient/family questions or concerns are satisfactorily addressed.
2. Verifies patient identity and correct procedure(s). Checks for appropriate physical status for anesthesia/analgesia, following through as warranted.
3. Ensures that anesthesia machine, breathing circuits, monitoring equipment, suction devices and all other equipment that will be used is fully operational, in advance of scheduled time for procedure. Ensures availability of backup and emergency drugs on anesthesia cart, to include necessary equipment for their administration.
4. Appropriately establishes and secures intravenous/intra-arterial lines, applies appropriate monitors based on patient needs and procedural requirements.
5. Induces and maintains inhalation, intravenous, local, regional and topical anesthesia commensurate with commonly used anesthetics and techniques, constantly monitoring drug effects and altering dosage to maintain optimal physiological function consistent with patient well-being, safety and procedural goals.
