Automation Engineering Technician

Role Summary
The Automation Engineering Technician is a key technical expert responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of automated solutions within Asurion’s Supply Chain network. You will ensure that automated systems—including robotics, vision systems, and conveyance—operate at peak efficiency to drive productivity, reduce costs, and support New Product Introductions (NPI).
Key Responsibilities
Technical Operations & Maintenance
- System Upkeep: Execute general maintenance, fabrication (jigs/tooling), and repairs on automated equipment to ensure safety, and maximum up time.
- Preventive Care: Research OEM manuals to develop and execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks, calibrations, and ESD checks in compliance with QMS and safety standards.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and report on key metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Units Per Hour (UPH), availability, and yield.
- NPI Support: Participate in the installation, relocation, and testing of new hardware and software deployments.
Engineering Support & Process Improvement
- Troubleshooting: Lead root cause analysis and Level 3 technical support for complex system malfunctions, escalating to senior engineering staff when necessary.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process enhancements, utilizing data to influence decision-making and operational strategy.
- Documentation: Create and maintain high-quality engineering reports, Work Instructions (WI), Job Aids (JA), and FMEA documentation.
- Operational Readiness: Support Automation Engineers in developing business cases, tracking CAPEX/OPEX spend, and validating projected savings.
Management & Coordination
- Inventory Control: Manage maintenance spare parts inventory (min/max levels) and oversee the organization of work areas using 5S methodologies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a liaison between internal teams (IT, Operations, Quality) and external vendors to resolve technical issues and manage project timelines.
- Training: Facilitate knowledge transfer by training operators and other technicians on new equipment and updated safety protocols.

Responsible for coaching, motivating, mentoring, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
- Leadership and Communication - Ensure teams meet product, cost, and schedule targets. Collaborate with department leaders to resolve design direction, priorities, and resource needs. Communicate project and departmental updates to management via written and oral presentations. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related
- 16 years of product development experience, including mechanical design experience, project management, and supervision
- Skilled in finite element analysis (FEA), computer aided design (CAD), 3-D modeling, and simulation software; preferably Nastran, FEMAP, Simcenter, and NX CAD
- Good written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel occasionally with overnight stays (0-5%)
- Valid driver license and reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday

SMT / Through-Hole / 2nd Ops / 3rd Ops Process Support
- Review daily SMT or build schedule to ensure process readiness.
- Confirm all required items are complete and available prior to production:
- Job package with full build documentation.
- Manufacturing Process Instruction (MPI) reviewed and approved.
- Routing definitions for data collection.
- Validated reflow or wave solder profiles.
- ECOs, deviations, or special instructions incorporated into the MPI and/or job package.
- All required tooling available and verified.
- Review pre-build DFM, document known defects, and hyperlink details in the MPI.
- Lead cross-functional NPI kickoff meetings to review design requirements, risk areas, and special process considerations.
- Document and track NPI issues and lessons learned for future builds.
- Coordinate with Program Managers to resolve DFM showstoppers prior to build.
- Analyze previous quality data, identify recurring defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Design, order, and verify all required tooling (stencils, wave solder pallets, press-fit fixtures, conformal coat fixtures, etc.).
- Maintain tooling logs, labeling, and readiness tracking within Omega Build Readiness.
- Inspect and sign off first article setups for critical processes (stencil printer, reflow oven, wave solder, etc.) using the First Article Checklist.
- Inspect initial boards after print and reflow for solder release, bridging, voids, and process anomalies. Document findings and sign off the First Article Report.
- Provide on-the-floor training for operators and technicians regarding new processes, corrective actions, or observed deficiencies.
- Support production by promptly responding to technical inquiries or line support issues.
- Exercise full authority to stop the line if repeated defects or safety concerns are observed.
Quality Data Review & Root Cause Analysis
- Review production data in Omega Data Collection, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Review Daily, Weekly, and Customer Quality Reports to identify trends, recurring issues, or process gaps.
- Provide structured analysis and report findings to Quality and Production (using 8D or equivalent methodology).
- Document corrective actions and verify implementation during the next production run.
- Present findings and improvement updates in internal and customer quality meetings.
Other Responsibilities:
- Create and submit Post-Build DFM reports to Program Managers with improvement recommendations.
- Implement and validate ECO changes per revision control procedures.
- Perform and document detailed failure analyses for internal and customer returns.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum five (5) years of leadership or management experience/responsibility.
- Proven track record of scaling and industrializing medical chemistries for commercial success.
- Strong knowledge of Six Sigma engineering (Black Belt trained).
- Expertise in the design of experiments, process capability, and process development methodologies.
- Experience in medical device or regulated chemical manufacturing environments.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and delivering results on time and within budget.
- Exceptional leadership, written and verbal communication, and stakeholder management skills.

About the Role:
Refactor Games is a AAA sports video game studio. We are developing the next generation of professional football (soccer) video games using Unreal Engine 5.
We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Game Designer - Game Systems to drive the design and implementation of advanced gameplay systems for a next-generation AAA European football video game built in Unreal Engine 5. You will conceptualize, prototype, tune, and polish interconnected systems that define how the game feels and plays across gameplay mechanics, progression, meta features, and player engagement loops.
You’ll work closely with engineers, animators, AI designers, UX, and production to ensure systems are robust, performant, and deeply aligned with the total football experience. This role requires strong systems thinking, Unreal Engine proficiency, and a passion for football that shows in both design insight and execution.

Experience:
- 5+ years of professional game design experience, with meaningful ownership of gameplay or systems features on shipped titles.
- At least 2 shipped AAA titles, bonus points for sports titles.
What You'll Work On:
- Design and own complex game systems such as player mechanics, controls, progression loops, mode rules, match logic, meta interactions, and balancing frameworks.
- Prototype and iterate features using Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints; C++ exposure a plus) to explore, validate, and polish systems.
- Collaborate with engineering to define technical requirements and implementation plans, ensuring your designs are feasible and maintainable in UE5.
- Partner with AI and animation teams to integrate systems with player behavior, character movement, and tactical responses.
- Tune systems using playtest feedback and telemetry data to achieve engaging and fair gameplay across modes.
- Deliver detailed design documentation, system diagrams, and tuning guidelines for cross-discipline reference.
- Work closely with UX and live ops to surface system states and progression in ways that feel intuitive to players.
- Mentor and guide other designers in systems methodology and UE5 workflows.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in designing and tuning interconnected game systems (Progression, balancing, meta loops, etc.).
- Hands-on proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 workflows, particularly Blueprints, and familiarity with scripting/design implementation.
- Strong analytical mindset—comfortable analyzing player behavior, balancing large systems, and iterating based on data and playtests.
- Deep knowledge of football and football games (e.g., understanding of team tactics, player roles, ball mechanics, game flow, and competitive balance).
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
