A Brief Overview

What you will do
Leadership
- Maintains modality workflow to assure patient throughput that maximizes equipment utilization and meets patient’s expectations regarding wait time and thoroughness of exam.
- Provides feedback on employee performance management by communicating employee performance concerns to Chief Tech.
- Manage department productivity adhering to operational standards.
- Works with Chief Tech and system MRI Clinical Specialist on new protocol implementation
- Assures that adequate supplies are available in the modality.
- Attends and productively participates in Lead Meetings and department meetings.
- Serves as an advocate for the Imaging Department and is a liaison for other hospital departments
- Serves as first level of contact for employee concerns.
- Participates, maintains and conducts PI (Process Improvement) in the department.
- Assists in the hiring process of new personnel, and ensures appropriate on-boarding efforts to validate competency assessments and departmental orientation.
- Participates in the competency process for MRI technologists on an annual basis.
- Assures that the MRI department is continuously survey ready.
Equipment
- Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation and that image quality is maintained.
- Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider, so that problem can be corrected in a timely manner.
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
Patient Care
- Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
- Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
- Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast medias so that no patient condition deteriorates, and no patient suffers undue pain, due to error or poor technique.
- Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left marker are utilized appropriately.
- Reviews MRI images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
- Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment.
- Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed.
- Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary so that no patient condition deteriorates.
- Verifies correct identity of patient using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure per hospital policy and procedure.

Operations
- Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
- Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table.
- Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
- Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
- Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center's Department of Radiation Oncology provides comprehensive, individualized care to patients with all types of cancer using state-of-the-art imaging technology and radiation delivery systems. Our board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists work in collaboration with referring physicians and multidisciplinary specialists across the entire spectrum of health care to provide safe, effective radiation therapies based on the latest medical evidence. The American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) accredits our radiation oncology program, recognizing our compliance with strict, national standards for cancer patient safety and radiation oncology practices. Hillman is the largest ACRO-accredited system in the nation.
UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring for a Regular Full Time Radiation Therapist to support the Murtha Radiation Oncology Network office located in Johnstown, PA. This position offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus and will work a Regular Full Time daylight schedule Monday through Friday.
Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. Assists physician or nurse in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization. Performs measurements for use during treatment calculation. Collects and documents data acquired during the simulation procedure. Accurately inputs treatment-related data into the verify-and-record system.

Responsibilities:

Performs measurements for use during treatment calculation. Collects and documents data acquired during the simulation procedure and accurately inputs treatment-related data. Provides safety in patient care through the consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration. Recognizes deviation from prescribed treatment delivery and reports all deviations to the Chief Therapist / Physicist. Assures the quality of treatment delivery through the complete and accurate documentation of treatment records. Assures the quality and consistency of treatment portal placement by taking portal images according to departmental procedures. Explains treatment procedures to patient and/or family. Responds effectively to patient concerns and refers medical questions to appropriate personnel. Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, takes localization images according to planned treatment delivery. Assists physician or nurse in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization.
* Continuing Education Program Management : Participates in training programs required to maintain ARRT Certification. Performs in accordance with system wide competencies / behaviors.
* Fiscal Responsibilities: Participates in accurate and complete charge capture activities. Notifies appropriate site leadership of supply needs. Maintains travel expenses according to policy. Uses all UPMC Cancer Centers resources effectively.
* Quality Assurance / CQI Program Management: Prioritizes patient safety. Performs and documents daily and weekly QA activity for assigned equipment. Documents findings outside the range established by Physics. Notifies the Chief Therapist immediately of findings outside the normal range of operations. Participates in programs to measure and improve the quality of care within the Department, such as Press Ganey, Quality Improvement Measures, Chart Rounding, and Department Meetings. Works collaboratively with the Radiation Oncologist, Manager, and all team members to maintain high standards for quality service.

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. Assists physician or nurse in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization. Performs measurements for use during treatment calculation. Job Description
- Responds to emergency scenes including, but is not limited to, fire, medical, bomb threats, flooding, sprinkler system discharge, elevator emergencies, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and numerous other types of incidents.

* Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
* Transports, positions and assists patients on and off the procedure table.
* Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
* Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
* Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when requested and when time allows.
* Performs clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and service quality.
