Job Summary
Responsible for performing general firefighting and emergency medical care at fire and disaster scenes.
Essential Duties
- Responds to fire alarms with a company; lays and connects hose, holds nozzles and directs water stream; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, and other equipment.
- Drives fire apparatus; operates pumps, and other auxiliary fire apparatus.
- Ventilates burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or cutting holes in roofs and floors.
- Removes persons from danger and administers emergency care to injured or ill persons.
- Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of department property, cleans and washes walls and floors, cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs, washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment.
- Performs salvage and overhaul operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water and removing debris.
- Participates in fire drills and attends classes in firefighting and emergency medical care.
- Inspects buildings to determine fire hazards.

- At higher level of Firefighter, instructs job skills to others.

Working Conditions
Work is usually performed during 24-hour shifts. May frequently require exposure to hazardous conditions that are typical to a fire or emergency situation, such as, intense heat, smoke, burning debris and falling structures. The Mosquito Control Inspector for the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is an hourly position that engages in routine field inspection work in the control and extermination of mosquitoes. Incumbent is responsible for mosquito control and surveillance activities to aid the County's larvicide and adulticide programs.
Work involves responsibility for making inspections of suspected mosquito breeding places in residential and rural areas. Work follows established routines with specific instructions received from superiors on all new assignments. Work includes collecting and identifying mosquito species in the field, recording all daily activities, updates data, and reports mosquito problems to supervisor as needed in a timely manner. Incumbent utilizes appropriate control method(s), applies the control method(s) in accordance with the applicable laws and Broward County policy. Work is reviewed by the incidence of public complaints against mosquito nuisance and field inspections by supervisors. This position involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals. The ability to wear an appropriately-fitted respirator mask and other personal protective equipment are requirements for this position.

General Description

SCOPE OF WORK
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Makes systematic daily checks of assigned area in the salt marshes during mosquito breeding periods; inspects ditches at regular intervals to determine incidence of mosquito breeding; determines breed of mosquito and the stage of the breeding process; keeps constant watch to prevent new breeding areas from developing; watches for incoming flights of adult mosquitoes.
Makes site inspections in an assigned residential area; identifies him/herself to residents; looks for containers holding water, pools, elevator shafts, sumps, and other places where mosquitoes could breed; calls undesirable situations to the attention of the occupant or owner; keeps work records of inspections made; makes count of adult mosquitoes at established stations throughout the County; drives spray truck and operates spraying machinery; operates equipment to combat early stages of mosquitoes.
Answers public complaints regarding annoyances by mosquitoes; determines the breed of mosquito involved and locates breeding places in the area; takes routine corrective measures as indicated.
Confers with superiors in the analysis of scientific and procedural problems involved and works out plans to abate or prevent the development of mosquito nuisance; assigns and supervises subordinate mosquito inspectors in various areas of the County; prepares and maintains survey maps.
Advises the public on methods and procedures to prevent mosquito breeding and to abate mosquito nuisance.
Orders, issues, and maintains adequate stock levels of supplies and equipment.
Performs related work as assigned.

The Maintenance Welder/Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks to maintain, repair, and improve plant equipment and infrastructure. What you will be doing

- Ability to plan welding work, order and assemble parts, materials, and consumables for welding jobs.

Implement standards of practice, system and department policies and procedures. * Review and implement new and changes to existing standards of practice in the Surgical Services Area * Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of Surgical Services in the nursing practice and surgical services procedural areas of nursing care * Provide expert opinion and feedback in the creation/review of department policies and procedures * Review and implement new department policies and procedures * Ensure understanding and compliance with standards and policies * Exemplary Practice * Assess the impact of, and plan strategies to address such issues as: Ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population Political and social influences Financial and economic issues The aging society and demographic needs Ethical issues related to health care * Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of healthcare. * Ensure that care is delivered with respect to individuals rights and preferences. * Evaluate employee performance using the Performance Management Model in accordance with Human Resources Policy and Practice Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements by all department personnel * Maintain level of knowledge of current compliance requirements and pending changes through professional education and awareness * Serve as subject matter expert in the area of Surgical Services in the nursing and operations remain a resource to all levels of staff for education and information sharing * Fosters open communication and collaborative practices between staff, other departments and physicians/care providers Partner with Management and Educators to provide appropriate training and learning opportunities for staff * Promotes safe environment for staff and patients * Promote professional nursing practice through feedback, information sharing, evidence-based practice and ethical accountability * Maintain professional license and education requirements consistent with the area of specialty/expertise and complete these requirements on an annual basis or as required by licensing body Promotes and actively participates in performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance quality patient care and improve work processes and efficiencies * Partner with managers and staff to ensure fiscal responsibility through individual accountability, identification and implement of cost containment activities, reduction or elimination of waste * Research and present ideas on improvements in the areas of customer satisfaction, reporting and Patient Flow services * Uses problem solving and communication skills bring forth performance improvement ideas and opportunities * Uses established Performance Improvement criteria when addresses issues or recommending changes in practice, policies and procedures Assures that supplies and appropriate staff members are available for each surgical case. * Works with surgeons and staff to manage resource maps so that supplies are available for each case. * Works with materials management to assure appropriate supplies are available. * Works with Director of Surgical Services and surgeons on all capital equipment requests and purchases. * Works with staff members to see that staff has appropriate education. Required Minimum Education:
* Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelors Nursing-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
* BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
* RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact
* ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days

Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Posses advanced Patient Flow knowledge and skills in the practice of perioperative nursing. Must possess excellent organizational skills. Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to see thebig picture. Demonstrates knowledge of standards related to perioperative nursing. Understanding of the concepts of interpersonal relationships. Strong customer services skills. Inter- and intradepartmental coordination of patient care activities. Delegation skills required. Ability to multi-task is essential. Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations essential. Strong detail orientation required. Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office products and the ability to adapt easily to other programs. Adept as a change agent. Utilized a wide range of theories in managing complex problems or problem resolution. Demonstrates expertise in a commitment to the advancement of the nursing practice and professions, interpersonal communication, knowledge of group/system dynamics, commitment to staff education and development. Knowledge of nursing theory and research required. Compliance with American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses is required. Demonstrates knowledge and practices within parameters outlined in Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act
