Job Title: Tractor Test Driver & Quality Inspector
Location: Racine, WI
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tractor Test Driver & Quality Inspector to perform structured test drives of new or serviced tractors to evaluate performance, safety, and functional quality. The role involves identifying and documenting issues related to drivetrain, hydraulics, steering, brakes, electrical systems, and overall equipment performance while collaborating with engineering and quality teams for resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct test drives of tractors across tracks, fields, and mixed terrains.
- Evaluate engine, transmission, PTO, hydraulics, steering, brakes, and 3-point hitch performance.
- Identify NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), driveline, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
- Inspect tractors for leaks, misalignments, loose components, wear, and quality defects.
- Capture CAN diagnostics and DTC data logs using OEM diagnostic tools.
- Perform pre-use safety inspections (tires, fluids, lights, seat belts, ROPS).
- Document findings and collaborate with engineering, quality, and service teams for root cause analysis.

What you'll do
- You plan your day, set priorities, and work with your team to keep freight moving safely and on time. You communicate clearly, solve problems as they come up, and adapt to changes on the road or in the plan.
- You handle all required paperwork and electronic logs accurately and follow all DOT, state, and company guidelines.
- You safely operate your tractor-trailer, inspecting it before, during, and after each trip to keep it in top shape.
- You will run optimized routes by following traffic laws and local restrictions—reducing delays and improving on-time delivery performance.
- You uphold Walmart’s high standards of safety, integrity, and professionalism every mile of the way.
Minimum Qualifications
- Interstate (Class A) Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat endorsement (including cleared background check) or will obtain HAZMAT endorsement (with cleared background check) within 120 calendar days of date of hire.
- Minimum of 30 months (2.5 years) experience working in a full-time Class A tractor/trailer driving position in the previous 3 years (36 months).
- No more than two (2) moving violations while operating a personal and/or commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No serious traffic violations while operating a personal and/orcommercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No preventable accidents* while operating a personal and/orcommercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No preventable DOT recordable accidents* (collisions resulting in disabling damage and/or immediate medical treatment away from the scene) while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last ten (10) years.
- No preventable accident* resulting in a fatality or catastrophic injury in driving history in personal or commercial motor vehicle.
- Must currently live within 250 miles of the assigned facility or willing to establish a residence within 250 miles by 90 days from hire date.
*The preventability of any accidents will be determined by Walmart based on the ATA Guidelines.

Drivers are paid a fixed rate for each mile driven, with additional pay for certain activities. For some activities drivers receive the mileage rate plus activity pay. For other activities they receive only activity pay. Drivers also receive Average Daily Pay (ADP) in certain circumstances.

Drivers receive both activity pay and the mileage rate for activities including Arrive/Arrive Drop, Bridge Pay, Chain, Evening Shift Premium, Hook, Live Load, Layover, Live unload, Regional Pay, Stop/Stop Drop, and Weekend mileage.
Drivers receive only activity pay for activities including Accident, Breakdown, Weather/Road Closure, Cleaning Rejected Trailer, Assigned tractor not available, Out of hours (70), Snow Removal assigned trailer, Undock Trailers, Trailer Weight issue, and Wait Time.
Drivers may be eligible to receive Average Day’s Pay (ADP) for circumstances such as to calculate paid time off (PTO), safety day, holiday, deferred holiday, bereavement, and jury duty. A driver will receive ADP when attending a Walmart event scheduled to last a full day (8 hours or more). Drivers will be paid a full ADP even if the driver performs no driving duties following the event. The full ADP is paid in addition to the pay earned for all activities, miles, and layover performed after the event.

Safely operate a TAS with 53' dry van.
Performs all duties in accordance with Corrugated Logistics policies and procedures, and complies with all federal, state, and local regulations for the secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
An offered load cannot be refused.
Conducts a thorough pre-trip inspection of the equipment assigned as prescribed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the company.
Inspect tractor and trailer for defects during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the tractor and trailer at the end of each trip.
Safely operates tractor trailer equipment in different configurations as assigned, with varying weights as allowed by law, under all types of climatic conditions, terrain, road conditions and traffic situations, in urban and rural settings, for extended periods of time, over long distances, either direct or by way of other intermediate points in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as Corrugated Logistics policy.
Drop, hook, spot, switch and otherwise interchange equipment, including the hooking and unhooking trailers from the tractor itself and the pushing, pulling, placing, lifting and attaching or detaching of various types of converter gear when necessary. Also includes the raising and lowering of the landing gear on semi-trailers.
Ensures that all required shipping documentation accompanies all deliveries.
Properly secures or re-secures the cargo as required.
Frequently communicates with Dispatch/Operations, in person or by way of PeopleNet, or phone, in order to advise of stops, movements, problems with equipment, cargo, delays, etc.
Reports all accidents or incidents involving driver of company equipment. Be able to provide initial contact with public safety or law enforcement officials and the general public when involved in traffic accidents or incidents.
Report any moving violations received in both CMV or personal vehicle.
Properly maintains a driver's log electronically in accordance with FMCSA and Corrugated Logistics requirements. Remains knowledgeable of own hours of service at all times and reports discrepancies or potential violations to Corrugated Logistics Operations immediately.
Properly and efficiently complete all necessary paperwork including inspection reports, manifests, bills of ladings, trip pay reports, trip fuel and mileage reports, accident reports and any other report or record required by law, regulation or Corrugated Logistics policy.
Verifies all shipping documentation against the load information provided by dispatch. Note in writing any overages, shortages or damage and seal intact when arriving at delivery.
Performs roadside inspections as required by the law, various administrative agency regulations and Corrugated Logistics policy.
Works in adverse weather conditions without temperature or other environmental controls and subject to ambient weather conditions.
Performs work required in a timely manner and maintains adequate production in order to meet service schedules.
Communicates in a professional manner with persons whom the driver is in contact with as a company representative.

What you'll do as a CDL-A Delivery Driver:
- Inspect tractor-trailer for defects pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection report indicating condition.
- Inspect bill of lading and store keys for accuracy in off-hour delivery.
- Drive tractor-trailer to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle on the road and on customer premises.
- Maintain driver log (Manual or Peoplenet) according to DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipt, product temperatures and exceptions.
- Unload trailer, delivering product into customer premises.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you'll bring as a CDL-A Teammate:
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL-A)
- At least 1 year or 50,000 verifiable miles of tractor-trailer driving experience
- Must meet McLane's MVR and risk rating qualifications
- This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role.
