What will you do?

Responsible for the continuous supply of materials to one or more production or assembly areas. Responsible for "kitting" materials on the production line to ensure all parts of order required are at point of origination to keep line moving at steady pace. Responsible for picking parts from Kanban or storage areas and placing the parts into a storage cart (kit). Ensures correct parts are kept in the appropriate quantities to support production and assembly requirements. May take parts from inventory area and ensures Water Spider is kept stocked at appropriate levels of inventory. Performs repetitive material supply functions following detailed work direction and guidelines. May operate forklift truck or hand truck for delivery or picking of parts and supplies. Inspects parts for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or Quality personnel. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental standards. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful working environment in accordance with OSHA requirements. The Opportunity:

The Materials Handler II is responsible for supporting daily operations by receiving, processing, and delivering materials, supplies, and packages to university departments. • Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
• Safely operate all fork trucks (ride-on, scissor lift, and walk behind).
• Service manufacturing machines with proper raw materials (film, boxes, adhesives, glue, paper, etc.)
• Remove (from the production floor) wrap and store all finished goods utilizing pallet location information.
• Stage outbound shipments in an organized manner utilizing release information.
• Communicate regularly with fellow S/R employees.
• Load and unload freight as it arrives & leaves the facility.
• Recharge and maintain all electric batteries on fork trucks.
• Accurately complete all monthly cycle counts.
• Receive material using AS400 system and make labels when requested.
• Organize and stack all unused pallets.
• Maintain a neat and orderly S/R work area.
• Adhere to all company safety guidelines.
• Able to work all scheduled shifts and assigned overtime.
• Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.

What you'll be doing:

Warehouse material handlers' essential duties are to perform various tasks in the warehouse such as but not limited to:

• Inbound: Unload trucks, trailers, containers of freight, counting products, compare to manifest to check all shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates. Material handlers must report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms. Also be able to sign for inbound shipments when necessary. All inbound shipments are moved safely to storage locations to be efficiently stacked as store merchandise.
• Order Picking: Ensure that the correct product number, quantity and type (lot, batch, serial number) of product are picked. Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms with material handling equipment such as but not limited to fork trucks, cherry pickers, or pallet jacks. Materials handlers must be able to label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required.
• Outbound: Compare quantity, labeling and address with order to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct. Assign signature for outbound as necessary. Efficiently move products, cartons and or pallets into trailers, rail cars or containers.
• Equipment: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.
• Inventory: Keep accurate records and reports. Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts. Ensure proper stock rotation. May key inventory adjustments in computer.
• Other Duties: Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions. Repair and consolidate damaged goods as required. Operate shrink-wrap machine. Charge forklift battery as needed; stack and or separate good from bad pallets when necessary; clean railcars, trailers, and truck docks, bays as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Physically handles materials used to construct components and finished products to ensure movement of such items is optimized; lifts, carries, stacks items as needed.
• Operates motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment, some of which may require specialized training.
• Responds attentively to training from foreman or more senior handlers in order to increase own knowledge of work processes.
• Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Other duties may be assigned.

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). This is an entry level position where incumbent will receive on-the-job training.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the material handler is responsible for supplying molding machines with ample amounts of required materials, ensuring the proper operation of any hopper loaders, hopper dryers, grinders and other related equipment.

• Interacts with all departments to recommend and help implement solutions to material or secondary equipment related problems and maintain optimum production conditions.
• Responsible for cleaning and basic maintenance of all support equipment including grinders, hoppers, hopper loaders, and dryers.
• Responsible for compliance to customer and internal specifications regarding material and work station set-up
• Completion of all assigned paperwork
• Awareness and understanding of IQMS data related to job function
• Responsible for correct labeling procedures for materials and material containers
• Communication with shift personnel to ensure operation effectiveness and reliability, including inter-shift communications relative to material status and quality issues
• Adherence to safety standards at all times
• Participating in Continuous Process Improvement projects
• Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process and quality systems
• Perform other duties as required
