Metal Fabrication Manager

Location: Troutville, Virginia

Position Overview

Virginia Transformer Corporation is seeking an experienced Metal Fabrication Manager to lead fabrication operations at our Troutville, Virginia Junction Box manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for overseeing all metal fabrication activities including sheet metal processing, welding, forming, and assembly preparation for junction box components used in transformer systems.

The Metal Fabrication Manager will ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and cost control. This leader will work closely with engineering, production planning, and quality teams to support Virginia Transformer’s continued growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication Operations Leadership

• Manage daily operations of the metal fabrication department, including sheet metal processing, cutting, forming, and welding.
• Lead and supervise fabrication teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production output.
• Ensure production schedules are executed effectively to meet customer delivery commitments.
• Monitor fabrication workflow and identify opportunities to improve productivity and throughput.

Process & Manufacturing Excellence

• Oversee fabrication processes including laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, grinding, and finishing.
• Partner with engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable and optimized for fabrication processes.
• Implement best practices to improve cycle times, material utilization, and production efficiency.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication department.

Quality & Safety

• Ensure fabrication operations meet quality standards, specifications, and inspection requirements.
• Enforce strict adherence to workplace safety policies and procedures.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality or production issues.

Team Leadership & Development

• Recruit, train, and develop fabrication personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 7+ years of experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing operations.

Sheet Metal Fabrication Workflow Specialist

Starting Hourly: $25/hr (based on experience)

The CAMduct Processor is responsible for converting ductwork designs and online duct orders into accurate, fabrication-ready jobs using Autodesk Fabrication CAMduct. This role processes work from Revit fabrication models and WebDuct/ecommerce systems, applies Comfort Systems USA Southeast fabrication standards, and prepares jobs for production equipment including plasma, coil line, and forming. It also includes reviewing shop drawings to ensure accuracy prior to fabrication.

This is an advanced-level role requiring independent processing, sound decision-making, and proactive problem resolution. The ideal candidate must be very thorough when working on the shop floor and must know how to accurately draw fittings.

Automation Fabrication Technician

Second Shift: Monday - Thursday 4:00 pm - 2:30 am

The Automation Fabrication Technician plays a primary role in the day-to-day operation of Trew’s advanced sheet metal fabrication system. This state-of-the-art system is comprised of many elements including Laser cutters, press brakes, folder, part sorting robots, part forming robots, and automated sheet metal storage and retrieval.

The Automation Fabrication Technician is a key member of Trew’s fabrication team and has a wide range of responsibilities across all elements of the system. They possess a diverse skillset and contribute to the entire value stream including capacity planning, machine programing, machine operation, final quality, and continuous improvement.

• Machine Operation:
• Operate all key elements of the sheet metal fabrication system.

• Create data models that will support comprehensive data insights, business intelligence tools, and other data science initiatives
• Create data models and ETL procedures with traceability, data lineage and source control
• Design and implement data integration and data quality framework
• Implement data monitoring best practices with trigger based alerts for data processing KPIs and anomalies
• Investigate and remediate data problems, performing and documenting thorough and complete root cause analyses. Make recommendation for mitigation and prevention of future issues.
• Work with Business and IT to assess efficacy of all legacy data sources, making recommendations for migration, anonymization, archival and/or destruction.
• Continually seek to optimize performance through database indexing, query optimization, stored procedures, etc.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and data security requirements, including data life cycle management, purge and traceability.
• Create and manage documentation and change control mechanisms for all technical design, implementations and systems maintenance.

Target Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer science, information systems or related field preferred, or similar combination of education and experience
• At least 10 years' experience designing and managing data pipelines, schema modeling, and data processing systems.
• Experience with Databricks a plus (or similar tools like Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, etc.) to drive scalable data solutions.
• Experience with SAP a plus
• Proficient in Python, with a track record of solving real-world data challenges.
• Advanced SQL skills, including experience with database design, query optimization, and stored procedures.
• Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools is a plus.
