The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Data Center Infrastructure) is a technical leader responsible for the architecture, integration, and validation of advanced mechanical systems supporting hyperscale data center environments. This role is responsible for defining system performance requirements, developing technical specifications, selection and integration of critical components, and leading mechanical design from concept through production release. Responsibilities include wetted material selection, thermal and structural analysis, fastening strategies, component layout, and design for manufacturability. Partners cross-functionally to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective Data Center Infrastructure solutions while advancing innovation in liquid cooling performance.
Lead the end-to-end mechanical design and engineering of hyperscale Data Center Infrastructure (DCI) systems, including liquid-cooled rack assemblies, CDUs, manifolds, enclosures, structural frames, and associated hydronic piping systems.
Serve as the technical authority for single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling architectures, including primary and secondary loop design, in-rack distribution, and system integration within hyperscale data center environments.
Define and validate operational performance requirements for liquid-cooled infrastructure, including pressure ratings, hydrostatic limits, temperature ranges, flow rates and uniformity, thermal expansion, durability, and serviceability.
Design, analyze, and validate machined components, welded fabrications, manifolds, and structural systems using advanced engineering principles, including stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), flow modeling, and structural load calculations to ensure mechanical integrity and code compliance.
Lead wetted material selection and compatibility analysis for liquid cooling systems, including corrosion mitigation strategies, surface treatments, cleanliness standards, and long-term durability considerations.
Develop and review CAD models and complete technical data packages using CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent tools; Author and approve technical specifications for piping systems, rack-level cooling infrastructure, and hydronic components, including installation guidelines, maintenance procedures, testing requirements, and compliance with applicable standards (ASME, ISO).
Establish and oversee validation protocols including hydrostatic pressure testing, leak detection and mitigation, flow resistance analysis, and corrosion verification to ensure regulatory compliance and operational reliability.
Evaluate customer design proposals and technical specifications to assess feasibility, manufacturability, cost, and risk; provide recommendations to optimize performance and total cost of ownership.
Lead cross-functional design reviews with electrical, thermal, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure full system integration and compliance with product specifications and applicable plumbing and hydronic codes.
Optimize rack manifold design and manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, surface finishing, connection interfaces, venting and draining strategies, and flow path optimization to enhance performance and manufacturability.
Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing assembly methods and tooling in collaboration with production teams and equipment vendors to improve quality, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Lead root cause investigations for complex mechanical failures identified during validation or field deployment and implement corrective design improvements.
Provide technical leadership in vendor qualification and management for mechanical components and liquid cooling subsystems.
Identify and mitigate technical risks impacting performance, schedule, or cost, and contribute to R&D initiatives advancing liquid cooling technologies and system innovation.
Bachelorβs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
8 years' experience in mechanical design and integration of mission-critical systems.

We are looking for aΒ Principal Thermal Rack Engineer within the Intelligent Infrastructure Segment to drive advanced cooling solutions for high-performance computing systems. Ensure mechanical designs support airflow management, thermal containment, and integration with cooling systems (e.g., in-row cooling, in-rack cooling, rear door heat exchangers).
Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for mechanical and thermal failures or field issues.

Responsibilities:
- Lead design of test hardware, including PCB design, circuit design and FPGA programming
- Lead electrical troubleshooting of probe cards and subassemblies, including mixed-signal, high-speed, RF, and power delivery paths.
- Write test vectors and design test programs for different platforms
- Own complex, cross-functional debug efforts involving dense, multi-layer PCBs with thousands of components and extremely tight tolerances.
- Analyze failing electrical test data to identify root causes such as opens, shorts, leakage, impedance drift, signal integrity issues, crosstalk, grounding problems, or component failures.
- Perform and interpret measurements using oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDR, LCR meters, curve tracers, and automated test equipment.
- Drive structured root-cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions, ensuring issues are fully understood and addressed, not just worked around.
- Support and guide technicians during debug, rework, and retest activities, setting best practices and ensuring consistent execution.
- Participate in RMA evaluations, customer-return analysis, and field failure investigations, identifying systemic trends and improvement actions.
- Develop and maintain failure summaries, yield analyses, corrective action recommendations, and production/test documentation.
- Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on electrical margins, test robustness, production yield, and overall product quality.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for electrical issues encountered in production and test.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering design, including analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power circuits. Must be able to both design test circuits and understand their behavior.
- Hands-on knowledge of Labview.
- Solid understanding of PCB design and stack-ups, routing behavior, parasitics, and how electrical characteristics evolve in dense, high-complexity assemblies.
- Demonstrated ability to trace signals, interpret schematics, and reason through complex component interactions on large multi-layer boards.
- Hands-on expertise with electrical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDRs, LCR meters, and automated test systems.
- Working knowledge of high-speed and RF concepts including impedance control, insertion loss, reflections, return loss, and crosstalk.
- Proven, methodical approach to troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in a production environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable guidance for technicians, manufacturing, and design teams.

Work Expectations:
The EIC Technician will:
- Ensure that all electrical equipment is in safe operating condition
- Practice safe work habits daily and ensure all safety processes are followed.
- Maintain proper tools in good working condition and keep work areas clean.
- Maintain mechanical and electrical knowledge via in-going training, industry workshops, and technical reading.
- Assist with developing training documentation and participate in the training of new maintenance team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend daily shift meetings to discuss prioritized work orders and minimizing downtime.
- Perform designated electronic technical duties to ensure system performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control systems issues to minimize downtime.
- Support project work with Controls Engineers, from concept to completion.
- Perform emergency repairs and assist in installing new equipment.
- Document work performed on control systems and support process improvements.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and actively participate in safety programs.
- You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of instrumentation & controls engineering issues
- Provide direct support for Controls Engineering functions (OT-Operations Technology) in manufacturing processes.
- Perform daily engagement/troubleshooting with end-to-end systems, including machine controls, SCADA, and interfaces with upper-level systems (MES and SAP).
- Conduct equipment installations and system development/troubleshooting as required to align to current standards.
- Investigate connectivity issues to diagnose and resolve network connection problems.
- Assist in maintaining program/PLC backups for devices to ensure data integrity and recovery readiness.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and other PLC systems.
- Support and troubleshoot Profibus, ControlNet, and Ethernet data communication systems.
- Replace defective components or parts, using hand tools and precision instruments.
- Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment to diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of electronic components, assemblies, or systems.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
- Review electrical engineering plans to ensure adherence to design specifications and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
- Review existing electrical engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments to outdated material.
- Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
- Educate equipment operators on the proper use of equipment.
- Integrate software or hardware components, using computer, microprocessor, or control architecture.
- Install or maintain electrical control systems, industrial automation systems, or electrical equipment, including control circuits, variable speed drives, or programmable logic controllers.
- Execute PM work orders and create work orders for issues found during PM inspections.
- Troubleshoot, repair, improve, and maintain all equipment including all electrical components, drive systems, conveyors, processing equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, utilities, etc.
- Utilize shop equipment, measurement and other diagnostic tools, and power and hand tools to assess the condition of new and used equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and vendor developed programs.
- Become SAP proficient to pull weekly work schedule and evaluate work orders and concerns to escalate appropriately to ensure scheduled work can be completed.
- Prepare maintenance daily reports using activity logs, analysis, and trends.
- Provide electrical support to capital and internal projects. This includes documentation, job scopes, managing contractors, and participating in meetings.
- Any other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics:
- Experience with PLCs and HMIs strongly preferred.
- Advanced understanding of control systems, relays, sensors, fuses, breakers, and computer networks.
- Capable of operating hand, power, and specialized tools
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Strong computer skills and willingness to use tablets
- Basic understanding of mechanics
- Knowledge of SAP PM preferred
Minimum Education:
- Bachelorβs Degree, College Diploma, or Equivalent experience
- 1 years of production/operational work required
- 1 year of experience in batch, continuous, and discrete manufacturing; work experience related to packaging lines.
