The Director of Health & Safety provides enterprise leadership for Intrepid’s Health & Safety function and is accountable for developing, standardizing, and executing safety programs across all operating sites. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety systems that protect employees, support operational excellence, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
This position requires a visible, engaged leader with a strong field presence who partners closely with site leadership, corporate teams, and senior management to drive consistent safety expectations, reinforce a proactive safety culture, and manage risk across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Standardized Safety Programs & Compliance
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for Health & Safety programs across all operations.
- Design, implement, and monitor standardized safety systems and protocols using data trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and internal safety requirements, including MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and ATF.
- Lead safety system audits and partner with operations to develop sustainable corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant safety records and documentation.
Leadership, Culture & Workforce Engagement
- Promote a proactive, enterprise-wide safety culture through consistent leadership presence and communication.
- Partner with senior leaders, legal, and operational teams to identify and manage safety risks.

- Respond to employee safety inquiries and regulatory complaints.
Incident Management & Field Execution
- Lead complex and high-severity incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Serve as a key advisor during crises and emergency response situations.
- Maintain frequent, hands-on engagement with field leadership and frontline teams to ensure consistent execution of safety programs.
Training & Capability Development
- Oversee standardized safety training programs, including new-hire, task-based, and annual refresher training.
- Ensure required MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and fall protection training is consistently deployed and documented across all sites.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10–15 years of experience in safety, compliance, operations, or audit roles.
- Expert knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- High degree of integrity and ethical leadership.
Work Environment & Travel
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing, reading, communicating, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, and walking.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Targeted salary range for this position is $180K to $205K annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set. As a Senior Environmental Scientist at Intrepid you will assist the Environmental Manager with execution of our mine site environmental compliance and permitting responsibilities.
You will be responsible and should excel at the following:
Leading air, water and waste management compliance inspections.
Managing and arranging for disposal of universal, and hazardous wastes.
Assisting operations with implementation of best practice operational controls for environmental compliance
Developing and maintaining positive professional relationships with regulatory personnel
Overseeing the compilation of all relevant environmental data, statistics and information required by management, government bodies and agencies
Maintaining and submitting various records related to permit requirements
Overseeing the preparation and review of permit documents
Leading environmental special projects (groundwater sampling, compliance stack testing, etc)
Project management and contractor oversite
Be the environmental lead on continuous improvement projects

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of experience in environmental roles
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Civil or Mining Engineering, or related technical field
Valid Driver's License
Proficiency with Google Earth and Microsoft Suite, including: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required.
Must be proficient in reading, analyzing and interpreting scientific data and information
Demonstrated experience in mining or other heavy industry environments
Able to communicate effectively to management and hourly work force
Experience working with federal, state and local environmental permitting preferred
Experience with Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Resource Conversation and Recovery Act
Knowledge of NEPA, MSHA, OSHA, DOT and other regulatory requirements preferred

Description
The Civil Project Engineer will provide timely, innovative, and realistic engineering support to the management and operations groups for both the HB Solution Mine, North Plant and East Plant. The primary responsibilities include safe and efficient oversight of tailings operations, project management of civil engineering projects and the successful implementation of the long-range plans to achieve corporate goals.
JOB DUTIES
- Serve as the company’s primary point of contact and subject matter expert for tailings management compliance
- Assist in the design and oversee tailings and mine waste facilities, water systems, and roads.
- Conduct surveying, site investigations, and construction inspections
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with government agencies and other external stakeholders
- Ensure all data, statistics and reports required by management and regulatory bodies are accurately compiled and submitted on time
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits and lead remediation efforts
- Manage budgets and costs related to civil construction projects
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators and operating statistics as they relate to tailings management and impoundment stability
- Assist Corporate Technical Services with construction projects as they relate to impoundment design and operation
- Evaluate the stability of active tailings areas and recommend design changes when required to increase safety or optimize management of water balance
- Engage and coordinate third-party experts and contractors as needed pertaining to tails management and impoundment stability
- Assist with ROW, layout and construction activities for well pads, roads and pipelines
- Manage critical infrastructure and identify necessary improvements.
- Support operations by maintaining site infrastructure.
- Collaborate with mill and underground mine teams on engineering projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong project planning and construction oversight skills
- Demonstrated competency in civil engineering disciplines and project management
- Drafting skills adequate to create drawings and maps using AutoCAD, Vulcan and Carlson Suite are required.
- Experience in geotechnical design, hydraulic design, and soil mechanics a plus
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations is a plus
- Understanding of Solution Mining principles is a plus
- Understanding of advanced surveying procedures
