Automation Controls Engineer

Our client is a global manufacturer that is modernizing its Mid-West operations with advanced automation and Industry 4.0 initiatives. They are expanding the engineering team with an Automation Controls Engineer who will own full-cycle controls projects—from early requirements through commissioning—across two high-speed flexible-packaging plants. This is a hands-on role with high visibility, direct access to senior leadership, and a clear technical growth path.


What You Will Do

  • Lead automation projects from concept through start-up, delivering safe, reliable, cost-effective machine and process controls solutions.
  • Gather requirements from production, maintenance, safety, and quality teams, then create complete engineering-package documentation (drawings, bill of materials, functional specs, FAT/SAT plans).
  • Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, servo, VFD, and edge-device architectures, integrating sensors, vision, and robotics into high-speed packaging lines.
  • Manage vendors and procurement—evaluate suppliers, generate purchase orders, track deliveries, and ensure equipment meets scope and schedule.
  • Track budgets and timelines, report project status, and proactively remove roadblocks to hit milestones.
  • Drive continuous improvement through kaizen events, data analytics, and root-cause problem solving to boost OEE and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Support installation, start-up, and operator training on-site, with up to 30 percent travel to sister facilities as needed.


What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Automation Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in industrial automation, machine controls, or advanced manufacturing (co-op or internship experience counts).
  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs, HMI development, industrial networking, and common protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, I/O-Link, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 79, OSHA machine-safety standards, lean / six-sigma tools, and capital-project management.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-starter mindset with a passion for learning new technologies and mentoring peers.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of warehouse operations including shipping schedules, loading operations and material handling activities (processing, packaging and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment). This position works out of our Neenah, WI warehouse on a 2-2-3 schedule 5:45pm – 6:00am.


Responsibilities:

Distribution, Transportation & Warehousing:

  • Assisting in designing and managing optimal space and storage plan for existing and new warehouse facilities.
  • Maintain warehousing and distribution center contacts.
  • Participate in innovative warehousing and distribution programs and processes.
  • Inbound and outbound transportation management from/to production and distribution facilities.
  • Assist in developing a warehouse and distribution center team.
  • Coordination of product deployment from internal or 3rd party manufacturing locations to distribution centers in accordance with overall planning strategies
  • Work cross-functionally to supply offerings such as factory direct, modular pallets, and customer pickup shipments. Using transportation expenses as a guide, recommend the process for customer returns and sample order shipments.
  • Assist with the activities relating to loss/damage claims in partnership with customer service. The specific activities include investigation, timely filing, and collection of the claims.
  • Direct and coordinate all aspects of warehouse operations including shipping schedules, loading operations and material handling activities (processing, packaging and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepare schedules for shipping and receiving materials to control the flow of goods and optimize warehouse space.
  • Develop, communicate, and monitor work schedules and policies/procedures.
  • Oversee the inspection of incoming goods and ensure damaged goods are returned and/or credit is received as appropriate.
  • Hires, develops, and reviews warehouse staff.
  • Seek out and implement innovative warehousing and distribution programs and processes.
  • Provide input and analysis as part of the annual warehouse budgeting process.
  • Manages inbound scheduling process with vendors / carriers to control the flow of product into the building while maintaining level-of-service goals.
  • Works with Inventory Planning to resolve vendor issues on delivery.
  • Ensures receipts are reconciled against purchase orders and proper paperwork is forwarded to Accounts Payable and the inventory planning team.
  • Ensures products meet standards for quality and product specifications for all inbound receipts.
  • Maintains receiving accuracy in item identification, quantity acknowledged, and putaway activities.
  • Ensures timely and accurate replenishment.
  • Determines proper staffing levels needed based on work volume and productivity and effectively forecasts needs.
  • Ensure service goals are met in all areas of responsibility.
  • Works with other managers to plan and allocate resources across the building.
  • Ensures BPMs are in place and followed.
  • Responsible for data integrity and accurate data management within the ERP and WMS.
  • Ensures housekeeping is maintained.
  • Pursues initiatives to improve department efficiency leading to lower operating costs, improved quality, and/or improved safety.


Inventory & Production Planning

  • Participate in inventory strategy development and execute inventory planning process and analysis.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy to include proper age rotation and date code integrity.
  • Ensure that systems and procedures are in place and executed to enable full trace of all production in the case of food safety or other product recall. This includes product residing in third party warehouses, contract manufacturers or co-packers.
  • Review sales and finished goods inventory data in partnership with sales, operations, or customer service team members to adjust plans as needed to respond effectively to unexpected sales trends and/or inventory balances.
  • Facilitate production planning tools and processes and assist scheduler with execution and decision making as needed.
  • Participate in sales forecasting process.
  • Monitor product age ensuring product freshness. Communicate with Marketing, Sales, and Finance on age issues or concerns.
  • Ensure ERP system master data management, integrity, and maintenance for assigned area.


Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a food industry or related manufacturing facility.
  • Track record of successfully selecting, planning, and implementing new 3rd party vendors (warehouse, transportation, etc.) Experience starting up new internal warehousing including design, planning and execution while meeting service, quality, and cost requirements.
  • Knowledge of food packaging principles, food industry quality and food safety requirements, and new product scale up dynamics.
  • Demonstrated strength in process improvement, SOP documentation and employee training.
  • Experience in managing information within an ERP system. ERP implementation experience is preferred.
  • Understanding the basics of change management has effectively led large scale changes or process improvements.

This is a remote position, where you will partner with people in your community who are enrolled in the Wisconsin IRIS Program and the TMG IRIS Consultant Agency.

While your office will be home-based, you will have regularly scheduled visits with IRIS participants in their home and community.

As an IRIS Consultant (IC), you will build relationships with the people you partner with and help them navigate and get the most out of the Wisconsin IRIS program – a Medicaid long-term care option for older adults and people with disabilities.

Together, you will identify the long-term care goals of the people enrolled in IRIS, and find creative ways to achieve those goals.

Because IRIS is a self-directed program, it is important for ICs to be available upon the request of the participant.

Responsible for providing program orientation to new participants.

During this time, participants will learn their rights and responsibilities as someone enrolled in the IRIS program, including verifying legal documents, completing employee paperwork and the responsible use of public dollars.

Explore a broad view of the participant's life, including goals, important relationships, connections with the local community, interest in employment, awareness of the Self-Directed Personal Care option, and back-up support plans.

Assist participants in identifying personal outcomes and ensure those outcomes are being met on an ongoing basis, all while staying within the participant's IRIS budget and within the requirements of the IRIS program determined by the Department of Health Services (DHS).

Responsible for documenting all orientation and planning activities within the IRIS data system (WISITs) within 48 business hours of the visit with the participant.

Research community resources and natural supports that will fit the individual outcomes for each participant and share that information with them as it becomes available.

Responsible for documenting progress and changes as needed within the plan and the data system anytime a modification is requested by a participant.

Budget Amendment or One-Time Expense paperwork may be required depending upon factors associated with the participant and their individual IRIS budget.

Educate participants on how to read and interpret their monthly budget reports to ensure that participants operate within their budget.

Being a liaison between the Fiscal Employer Agency and the IRIS Consultant Agency is also a large part of the position, which includes assisting participants with provider billing, seeking support brokers, tracking receipts, ensuring their workers are paid and mitigating areas of potential risk or conflicts of interest.

Responsible to develop engaged and trusting relationships with participants and communicate program changes and compliance effectively.

Responsible to maintain confidentiality and HIPPA compliance.

Work collaboratively with other IRIS Consultant Agency staff in order to ensure a successful implementation of participants' plans.

Attend in-person monthly team meetings with other ICs and their supervisor.

In addition, weekly IC and IRIS Consultant Supervisor phone check-ins may occur, along with other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications • At least 2 years experience in health care, preferably in care coordination, and at least 1 year of experience serving target groups of the IRIS program (adults with intellectual/physical disabilities or older adults), or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in a social work, psychology, human services, counseling, nursing, special education, or a closely related field (or four years of commensurate experience if no degree).

• Valid and unrestricted driver's license, reliable transportation, and adequate auto insurance for job related travel requirements unless otherwise required by law.

• Ability to develop positive and effective work relationships with coworkers, clients, participants, providers, regulatory agencies and vendors.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate self-motivation.

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for preventative maintenance, property, plant, and equipment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Senior machine operator of all equipment in maintenance shop.
  • Repair or replace in-process production equipment, in response to requests.
  • Welding and fabrication of machines, guarding, structures and holding mechanisms.
  • Develop machine design.
  • Recommend incorporation of new technology for company application where feasible and practical.
  • Develop, Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
  • Collaborate with outside contractors for servicing/repair of all maintenance shop machines that are on a scheduled PM program.
  • Manage all consumables needed for maintenance shop use.
  • Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of team.
