Role Summary

The Principal Engineer is a senior individual contributor role focused on technical depth, architectural consistency, and engineering excellence. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work across organizational boundaries, and experience influencing technical direction without direct authority. You will be expected to balance strategic thinking with hands-on involvement, particularly in complex or high-impact initiatives related to network security and identity.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Decision Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience is preferred.
• 7+ years of work experience required in Network, Cloud Network, Network Security, and other areas directly relevant to Network/Cloud/Automation responsibilities and tasks; multiple certifications preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working in large, complex enterprise environments.

Technical Experience

Network, Cloud, and Automation

• 7+ years of experience with enterprise routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless networks, with HPE Aruba and Fortinet experience preferred.
• 5+ years of experience designing, building, and operating network infrastructure in cloud platforms, with Azure preferred.

The Scientific Computing and Data group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai partners with scientists to accelerate scientific discovery. To achieve these aims, we support a cutting-edge high-performance computing and data ecosystem along with MD/PhD-level support for researchers. The group is composed of a high-performance computing team, a clinical data warehouse team and a data services team.

The Lead HPC Architect, Cybersecurity, High Performance Computational and Data Ecosystem, is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the cybersecurity infrastructure and technical operations of Scientific Computing’s computational and data science ecosystem. This ecosystem includes a 25,000+ core and 40+ petabyte usable high-performance computing (HPC) systems, clinical research databases, and a software development infrastructure for local and national projects. The HPC system is the fastest in the world at any academic biomedical center (Top 500 list).

To meet Sinai’s scientific and clinical goals, the Lead brings a strategic, tactical and customer-focused vision to evolve the ecosystem to be continually more resilient, secure, scalable and productive for basic and translational biomedical research. The Lead combines deep technical expertise in cybersecurity, HPC systems, storage, networking, and software infrastructure with a strong focus on service, collaboration, and strategic planning for researchers and clinicians throughout the organization and beyond. The Lead is an expert troubleshooter, productive partner and leader of projects. The lead will work with stakeholders to make sure the HPC infrastructure is in compliance with governmental funding agency requirements and to promote efficient resource utilizations for researchers

Key Responsibilities:

HPC Cybersecurity & System Administration:

• Design, implement, and manage all cybersecurity operations within the HPC environment, ensuring alignment with industry standards (NIST, ISO, GDPR, HIPAA, CMMC, NYC Cyber Command, etc.).
• Implement best practices for data security, including but not limited to encryption (at rest, in transit, and in use), audit logging, access control, authentication control, configuration managements, secure enclaves, and confidential computing.
• Perform full-spectrum HPC system administration: installation, monitoring, maintenance, usage reporting, troubleshooting, backup and performance tuning across HPC applications, web service, database, job scheduler, networking, storage, computes, and hardware to optimize workload efficiency.

The Global Cloud Engineering Leader will be responsible for the overall technical direction for Cloud hosting and automation tools for the company. This role will lead onshore and offshore cloud build and automation resources who are responsible for having a deep understanding of our business strategy, and the creation of a technical capability that enables and accelerates business goals through rapid deployment and scalability of new features and functionalities.

This role is designed for a leader who can facilitate executive-level design conversations, translate complex project and financial requirements into scalable Oracle Cloud solutions, mentor consultants, and own delivery excellence from kickoff through go-live and stabilization.

What You’ll Do

Delivery Leadership

• Lead end-to-end Oracle Cloud ERP Project Portfolio Management (PPM) implementations, acting as the functional lead for the Projects workstream throughout complex engagements.
• Facilitate discovery, requirements gathering, and solution design workshops.
• Translate business requirements into scalable Oracle Cloud configurations aligned with best practices.
• Own configuration oversight, validation, testing strategy, and deployment readiness.
• Guide clients through change management and project financial process transformation.

Functional Expertise Across Project Portfolio Management (PPM)

Lead and configure across modules including:

• Project Financial Management
• Project Costing
• Project Billing
• Project Contracts
• Project Foundation & Project Setup
• Project Budgeting & Forecasting
• Project Resource Management
• Capital Projects / Capital Asset Tracking

Governance, Integration & Optimization

• Ensure solution alignment across Financials, Procurement, and other ERP workstreams.
• Evaluate and scope Change Requests (CRs), including impact to timeline and budget.
• Oversee project-related data migration, integrations, and reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities for automation, financial control improvements, and project lifecycle efficiency.

Client & Practice Leadership

• Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance, PMO, and IT leadership.
• Provide clear executive-level updates and proactively manage scope and risk.
• Mentor consultants and elevate overall delivery quality.
• Support RFP responses, solution positioning, and level-of-effort estimates.
• Contribute to practice growth and thought leadership initiatives.

What You Bring

• 6–10+ years of ERP implementation experience
• 3–5+ years of Oracle Cloud ERP Project Portfolio Management (PPM) implementation experience
• Multiple full lifecycle Oracle Cloud implementations as a PPM Lead or Senior Functional Consultant
• Deep expertise in project accounting, project costing, billing, and project financial management
• Strong workshop facilitation and stakeholder management skills
• Experience leading client-facing functional workstreams
• Ability to balance strategic advisory responsibilities with hands-on system leadership
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle Cloud Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Certification
• Experience in professional services, public sector, higher education, or capital project environments
• Experience integrating PPM with Financials, Procurement, and Payroll
• Experience with data conversion and integration methods (FBDI, REST/SOAP)
• Reporting experience using OTBI and BI Publisher
