chief of staff (6 months intern)
🏢 mundane
Salary not disclosed

Start Date: ASAP

About Us

Mundane is a venture-backed, seed-stage robot learning company founded by Stanford researchers and builders. We deploy humanoid robots into real commercial environments to collect data and build the next generation of embodied intelligence.

We operate as a small, highly technical team with a strong bias toward execution. Our work spans robotics, machine learning, and real-world deployment, and requires rigor, judgment, and ownership at every level of the organization.

Our mission is to build robotic systems that feel natural to control — extending human intent into the physical world with speed, precision, and reliability.

About the Role

This Chief of Staff Intern role is a 6-month, full-time position working directly with Mundane's founding team on the company's highest-priority strategic and operational initiatives.

You will act as a force multiplier for the founders—owning cross-functional projects, driving execution on strategic priorities, and ensuring critical initiatives move forward with speed and rigor. The scope is intentionally broad and will evolve with the needs of the business.

This role is designed for a high-caliber operator with strong judgment, versatility, and drive, who is comfortable working in ambiguous, high-responsibility environments.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the founding team to drive execution on top strategic and operational priorities
  • Own cross-functional initiatives from definition through completion, ensuring clarity, accountability, and results
  • Support strategic planning, goal-setting, and internal operating cadence
  • Conduct structured analysis on business, financial, and operational questions
  • Support financial planning, budgeting, and performance tracking
  • Prepare high-quality materials for internal decision-making and external stakeholders
  • Identify execution gaps and design processes or systems to address them
  • Act as a connective layer across engineering, product, and operations to ensure alignment and follow-through

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated excellence as an operator, with a track record of owning critical initiatives and delivering results in demanding environments
  • Strong foundation in economics or finance, through education or professional experience
  • Exceptional judgment and attention to detail, particularly in high-stakes or ambiguous situations
  • Versatility and drive, with the ability to shift between strategic thinking and tactical execution
  • Clear, structured written and verbal communication, suitable for executive-level contexts
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort with models, metrics, and incomplete information
  • Ability to work in-person in downtown Palo Alto for the duration of the internship

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in investment banking, management consulting, venture capital, private equity, or early-stage startups
  • Experience working on or alongside highly technical deep-tech projects (e.g., robotics, AI/ML, infrastructure, hardware)
  • Previous exposure to Chief of Staff, strategy, or operations roles

Candidate Expectations

We hire A players only.

In your application, please clearly articulate:

  • The most impactful work you have owned end-to-end
  • Examples of operating under ambiguity and delivering results
  • Why you believe you would be effective working directly with a founding team

We place greater weight on demonstrated capability, judgment, and execution than on titles or pedigree alone.

What You'll Get

  • Direct partnership with Mundane's founding team
  • Ownership over strategic initiatives that materially impact the company
  • Broad exposure to company-building at a seed-stage robotics startup
  • A rigorous, execution-focused working environment

Perks: free merch, robots, espresso, flexible hours, sauna & cold plunge (pending).

vp, teleportation
🏢 mundane
Salary not disclosed
Palo Alto, CA 1 week ago

Start Date: ASAP

About Us

Mundane is a venture-backed seed-stage robot learning startup founded by a team of Stanford researchers and builders. We’re deploying a massive fleet of humanoid robots to perform mundane tasks in commercial environments, collecting data to build the next generation of embodied intelligence. We’re a fast-paced, execution-driven team of engineers, roboticists, and dreamers.

Our mission is simple and audacious: build robots that feel human to control — systems that extend human intent into the physical world with immediacy, precision, and grace.

About the Role

As VP of Teleportation, you will lead the design of the sensory and cognitive bridge that connects humans to Mundane’s humanoid robots — a telepresence interface so seamless that distance disappears.

You’ll architect the systems that let operators see, feel, and act through robots as if they were there themselves. Your work will unify cutting-edge visualization, human-computer interaction, and robotic control into an integrated experience that defines the future of human-AI symbiosis.

This is not a design role. It’s a frontier research and systems leadership position — one that spans computer vision, HCI, telepresence, XR, and low-latency distributed systems. You’ll collaborate directly with Mundane’s founders, robotics engineers, and AI researchers to invent the interaction layer that makes humanoid intelligence deployable at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the development of Mundane’s teleoperation and telepresence stack — spanning perception, visualization, and interaction design.
  • Define and prototype new paradigms for human–robot shared embodiment, combining vision, control, and cognitive feedback in real time.
  • Lead applied research on operator performance, situational awareness, and embodied cognition in teleoperation.
  • Build high-fidelity visualization pipelines integrating multi-sensor inputs — RGB, depth, LiDAR, and proprioceptive state.
  • Collaborate with ML and controls teams to develop closed-loop learning systems that fuse human feedback with robot adaptation.
  • Explore VR/XR and spatial computing interfaces for immersive control and situational presence.
  • Publish and present frontier work in HRI, CVPR, ICRA, SIGGRAPH, CHI, or equivalent venues to help define the state of the art in embodied telepresence.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Advanced background in Human–Computer Interaction, Computer Vision, Robotics, or Cognitive Systems.
  • Proven experience building or leading teleoperation, XR, or perception-based interaction systems at scale.
  • Strong expertise in real-time rendering, image processing, or sensor fusion (Unity, Unreal, CUDA, OpenCV, ROS2).
  • Deep understanding of low-latency streaming architectures and human perceptual thresholds (WebRTC, custom protocols, etc.).
  • Ability to drive end-to-end system design — from experiment to deployment — across interdisciplinary research teams.

Bonus

  • Prior leadership at a frontier lab (Meta Reality Labs, Apple Vision Products, NVIDIA Robotics, Boston Dynamics AI Institute, etc.).
  • Experience with VR telepresence, neural rendering, or world models for shared autonomy.
  • Published work in HRI, IROS, ICRA, CoRL, SIGGRAPH, or CHI.
  • Track record of building teams that bridge research and productization of embodied or immersive systems.

What You’ll Get

  • Full ownership of the human–robot teleportation layer — the interface that defines how intelligence moves between human and machine.
  • Early equity with meaningful upside in a venture-backed company building the foundation of embodied AI.
  • The opportunity to deploy your work across a real humanoid robot fleet, not simulations.
  • Influence over the design of the company’s next-generation learning systems — where teleoperation becomes co-learning.
  • The chance to define the visual and cognitive language of human–AI symbiosis.

Perks: Competitive salary + equity, flexible PTO, legendary merch, coffee, robots, sauna & cold plunge (pending).
