Position Responsibilities:

• Lead major design activities for hardware/software products

• Mentor junior engineers in design practices and processes; oversee the quality of their work products

• Select components for hardware designs and support the procurement and fabrication of hardware designs

• Integrate hardware systems and/or software together in a test setting

• Operate complex test stations, electronic test equipment, and test software

• Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements

• Solve problems concerning fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle

• Interface with programs/customers in developing requirements, in establishing statements of work, and in providing status and performance

• Develop estimates for new work by gathering data from other BT&E partners and from team actuals

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

• 9 years of experience with avionics testing and integration

• 3 years of experience with test station design or test system design

• 3 years of experience with the development of Flight Controls or Flight Controls Systems such as Flight Control Computers/Vehicle Management System Computers, Actuators, Air Data Probes, and Navigation Systems

We are seeking Systems Engineers with Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering principles in modern software environments, with strong understanding of DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native architectures. The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) - Phantom Works organization is seeking a seasoned Low Observables (LO) Design & Integration Engineer to lead design and analysis activities supporting the fabrication and test of an RCS pole model.

The successful candidate will apply deep expertise in LO materials, integration, manufacturing, computational electromagnetic (CEM) modelling, and test support to design, build and test a representative pole model for an advanced next generation program in the St. Louis region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead detailed LO design and integration for the RCS pole model, including material selection, incorporation of advanced technologies, supplier hardware integration.

• Use computational electromagnetic solvers to model, analyze, and optimize radar cross section (RCS) and scattering behavior across required frequency bands and aspect angles in support of pre-test predictions and diagnostics.

• Work with Manufacturing to ensure proper alignment between design, analysis and fabrication of LO components.

• Define and support fabrication processes, QA checks, and build plans for LO skins, coatings, RAM treatments, and attachments; identify and mitigate manufacturability risks, provide LO liaison support to the shop.

• Develop and execute test plans for RCS characterization (anechoic chamber and outdoor ranges), including instrumentation, calibration, and measurement repeatability considerations.

• Prepare and execute data processing workflows to reduce, calibrate, and analyze measured RCS and related EM test data; combine simulation and measurement data for validation and design iteration.

• Produce clear technical documentation: design descriptions, analysis reports, test plans, test reports, procedures, and presentation materials for program reviews.

• Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement of LO design, test, and data processing practices.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Hands-on support in fabrication or test setups may be required.

• Will require travel to other company locations, supplier facilities, fabrication shops, and test ranges (including anechoic chambers and outdoor ranges).

• Strong understanding of electromagnetic principles relevant to scattering, phenomena and Radar Cross Section.

• Proven track record supporting fabrication and testing of LO components/assemblies and correlating measurements to models.

• Proficiency in data processing and analysis of RCS/EM test data, including calibration, clutter and background rejection, and data visualization techniques.

• Excellent technical writing skills with experience producing engineering reports, test plans, and test reports.

• Effective verbal communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead technical discussions and interface with suppliers, customers, leadership and test facility personnel.

• Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance and Special Program Access (US Only Citizenship required)

Lab Test Execution

• Serve as the Controls Validation Point of Contact (POC) for lab validation activities.
• Execute validation tests on prototype hardware and embedded control systems.
• Document test procedures and record pass/fail outcomes with technical accuracy.

Documentation & Traceability

• Maintain organized test documentation including test plans, execution logs, and validation reports.
• Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, and defect reports.

Defect Reporting & Tracking

• Identify, document, and report defects with clear technical descriptions and reproducible steps.
• Collaborate with development teams to analyze root causes and track defect resolution.

Reporting & Quality Reviews

• Prepare concise 2–3 slide technical summaries of test results and validation findings.
• Present validation updates during PRQRB/SQA or departmental review meetings.

Test Bench & HIL Development

• Design and build test bench setups and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators for validation.
• Support legacy platforms and existing validation environments.

Automation Development

• Contribute to Python-based test automation and validation frameworks.
• Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency through automation.

Product Support & Continuous Improvement

• Support new product development, sustaining engineering, and validation process improvements.
• Drive enhancements in test infrastructure, lab workflows, and validation methodologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded systems validation, SQA, or controls testing.
• Strong understanding of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) fundamentals, including test execution and documentation.
• Experience validating embedded control systems and equipment controls.
• Hands-on experience with lab-based validation and prototype testing.
• Knowledge of controls inputs/outputs, sensors, and system interfaces.
• Experience with bench wiring, test setup, and instrumentation.
• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with engineering basics such as heat exchangers and unit conversions.

SUMMARY: Responsible for overall statistical process control software setup by safely performing all testing procedures and ensuring conformance to established specifications. Additionally, manage shift quality improvement initiatives through training, awareness, and analysis of facts and data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero accident rate.
• Implementation of SPC Software Package.
• Analyze trends in production/process data through statistical evaluation methods.
• Determines test objectives and standards by studying software requirements; writing test cycle plans, test cases, and test scripts.
• Meets test objectives by determining testing methods, cycles, phases, and conditions; setting up testing environment and equipment.
• Identifies software capability and reliability by conducting functional, system, and performance tests and resolves testing problems.
• Completes tests by training and directing others that will use the system.
• Maintains testing database by developing defect tracking and regression testing information requirements; designing information system; enters test outcomes; secures data.
• Reports test outcomes by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, and displaying data; recommending software changes.
• Maintains test environment by developing test environment; enforcing and complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Assist Quality Assurance Manager in determining Process Capabilities within the Laboratory and out on the Production Floor.
• Assist with raw material and/or quality issues; i.e., completion of and facilitation of reject/hold forms, supplier certification, customer complaint investigations, etc.
• Maintain Manufacturing Specifications and Operating Specifications.
• Analyze and Recommend Optimal QA Testing Requirement.

• Review and accurately file all production test data.
• Maintain and update Raw Material Specification files.
• Review, verify and file all Supplier Certifications.
• Prepare, verify and submit requested COA's for customers.
