• Responsible for overseeing the overall cleanliness in all areas of the park
• Providing constant supervision, training, coaching, and motivation of Team Members

• Removing trash, cigarette butts, debris, and graffiti, both behind the scenes and in Guest’s view in order to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Job Description

The City of Renton has an exciting opportunity for a Parks & Recreation Program Coordinator within the Parks & Recreation Department. This position plays a key role in supporting community events and programs for the City of Renton. In this position, you will manage the city's temporary event permit process, collaborate with event organizers, city departments, and community partners to ensure safe and successful events. You will also oversee grants and sponsorships that help bring Parks & Recreation initiatives to life. Job Summary

Seasonal Parks Laborers perform general labor tasks as assigned to contribute to the development and maintenance of City public grounds and moorage facility.

Each Laborer works as part of a team to conduct routine maintenance and park development which includes cleaning restrooms, picnic shelters, and other City facilities as well as opening and closing parks daily, addressing customer concerns as they arise, collecting garbage, and picking up litter. Depending on the team of assignment, the Seasonal Laborers perform their work under supervision to maintain park landscaping, turf, sport fields, trees, boardwalks, buildings, equipment, and natural areas undergoing habitat restoration. Please note the specific tasks listed below.

All Laborers positions will operate vehicles, equipment, and a variety of hand and small power tools as required to complete their assigned tasks.

Essential Duties

• Hand mows spaces not accessible by tractor-mowers.
• Trims grass and cuts weeds with an edger or weed eater.
• Raking leaves, spreading sand and soil, installing park benches and cleaning the docks.
• Waters vegetation on City facility grounds.
• Remove debris with mechanical blower.
• Makes garbage runs at City facilities. This includes emptying garbage cans, picking up litter and debris.
• Landscape installation to include planting, weeding and bed maintenance.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with hand equipment and small engine maintenance and repair.
• Set up equipment where necessary.
• Painting and staining as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Basic knowledge and/or experience in landscape services.

Ability to facilitate, assist, monitor and implement daily assignments of crew members and volunteers.

Knowledge of landscaping, vegetation management, sports facility management and turf care.

Ability to safely operate power tools.

Effective communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Ability to use ordinary conversational skills and courtesy to exchange routine information and provide routine assistance.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction and to exchange information. Understanding of simple work processes, methods or equipment. Ability to learn job-related information and techniques.

Strong interpersonal problem-solving, organizational skills desired. Ability to get along well with coworkers and maintain effective work relationships with teen-age crew workers. Ability to use ordinary conversational skills and courtesy to exchange routine information and provide routine assistance.

Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, but also work alone at a work-site, under supervisory direction while performing duties thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with Department policy.

Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Ability to safely work in a variety of unsanitary conditions on a recurring basis including public restrooms, abandoned campsites, and exposure to air borne hazards.

Under certain circumstances position may involve working overtime and on weekends as needed.

Special Requirements
Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license.

Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and/or criminal history check.

Maintenance of First Aid/CPR certification.
