Overview The Production Supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight, supervision, training, development, and support of our production and material handling employees. They are also responsible for providing oversight, guidance, support, and indirect supervision for shift maintenance support staff. The production supervision duties are mostly hands-on and direct and require that substantial time be spent on the plant floor working closely and directly with all shift employees. The Production Supervisor is responsible for the safety of employees and visitors, the quality of products, efficient utilization of labor, operation of equipment, technical problem solving, elimination of waste, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Ensures shift employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently and completely. Audits for compliance and addressing safety issues promptly
- Works safely and is proactively involved in plant safety improvement efforts
- Conducts safety and job function training for shift personnel
- Trains employees in proper procedures, coaches them to improve results, and evaluates performance
- Troubleshoots and resolves process, equipment and material issues in conjunction with machine operators and support personnel
- Interprets work orders and specifications to shift employees, as necessary
- Leads and/or assists shift employees in problem resolution. Leads or supports efforts to determine root cause and develop corrective actions
- Studies and understands production schedule and deploys available labor and other resources, as required
- Spot checks product quality and ensures specifications are being met and quality procedures are being followed
- Recommends measures to improve safety, production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and reduction of waste
- Suggests changes in procedures, labor utilization, use of equipment, and materials to increase the efficiency of the plant, shift, department, or work cell
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals
- Double-checks, ensures accuracy, and finalizes production paperwork, including production reports, work order documentation, safety and sanitation documents, quality records, finished goods tickets, etc.
- Maintains employee time clock information and submits it to the plant Human Resources for payroll processing
- Coordinates labor needs with plant Human Resources
- Interprets company policies, rules, and regulations to employees
- Communicates regularly and effectively with incoming and outgoing shift leaders about issues occurring on previous, current, or following shifts
- Communicates effectively and appropriately at the necessary frequency with subordinates, peers, and superiors
- Performs activities of employees supervised, as needed
- All other projects and duties, as assigned
- Have a working knowledge of Lean manufacturing and 5's
Meeting Customer Expectations
- Comply with established plant rules and procedures that promote compliance with customer service-related activities, including, but not limited to:
- Following run-order specifications for each product
- Following all Good Manufacturing Practices and compliance with all food safety requirements
- Actively engage in value-added activities that enhance our products and processes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S. in Industrial Management) not required but preferred.
- Minimum of five years of successful production supervision experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the willingness and ability to learn new systems
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to complete job tasks
- Resourceful problem solver with proven ability to bring quick resolution to challenging situations
- Team player with the ability to build lasting, productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers
- Ability to effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, customers, or suppliers
Compensation
A reasonable estimate of the current range is $66,000 - $80,000 + bonus + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job related skills, experience and relevant education or training. At Novolex, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
