We are seeking a Waste Collection CDL Driver who will be working out of our Jersey City Depot (264 Broadway, Jersey City, NJ 07306) servicing NYC Routes and reporting to the Site Manager but is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. This is a full time, Union, non-exempt, hourly position with an overnight schedule starting anywhere between 7pm and 9pm but may vary depending on business needs. Shifts may vary from 10 to 12 hours per evening or until the route is complete. This Depot will be servicing our NYC routes.

Working alongside a Helper, our Waste Collection CDL Drivers main responsibility is to safely operate a rear-loading truck, for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Drivers transport the material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility, and may make one or more trips throughout the shift.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:
  • The driver is responsible for safely operating the truck in compliance with IWSs safety standards as well as OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair.
  • Ensuring that the container and its content are always secure. This includes periodically checking tarps and ties, and may require the driver to climb onto containers and/or reach overhead.
  • Perform pre- and post-route inspections of assigned truck and document any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers of other equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • All IWS employees are expected to be responsible and accountable for the safety for themselves, their colleagues, the trucks, and other equipment and property. Drivers must immediately notify Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service. Our Drivers must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications::
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • All Drivers must have a valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B, within the last 7 years. Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to read and understand a map
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Must be willing and able to work required worked hours as allowed under DOT regulation and may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work.

Job Duties (not exhaustive):

  • Arrives to work on time and receives paperwork and/or tablet. Performs Pre-trip inspection of the truck. Completes DVIR form in accordance with state, local and federal regulations. If maintenance is necessary, reports conditions to Supervisor before moving truck.
  • Drives truck on fixed routes in same geographic area on a daily and weekly basis; using provided route information via tablet and maps. Moves carts into position as needed for truck to dump, as well as extra items, on residential routes.
  • Opens and closes container enclosures as needed on Commercial service routes. Positions containers and/or carts by pulling or pushing.
  • Ensures doors are properly closed and container is level and ready for hauling when assigned to roll-off route.
  • Communicates effectively with the Lead Driver and Operations Manager to ensure that there are no dispatch issues or issues with the route for the particular day. Reports any issues encountered immediately to Route Supervisor
  • Dumps/empties the truck at the end of the day at the appropriate location. Performs basic clean out of truck body and cab.
  • Performs vehicle post trip inspection after route is completed and driver has returned to terminal for the day, completes post-trip DVIR and lets the Lead Driver and Maintenance Shop know of any maintenance areas necessary.
  • Submits route work information via tablet data and paper notes containing extra charges and other customer notes each day.
  • Attends all necessary meetings as scheduled including safety, skills training and other company scheduled meetings at Sunshine Disposal & Recycling facility.
  • Performs special projects for the Operation Manager and other management team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized and ad-hoc test drives of tractors on various terrains including paved surfaces, gravel tracks, fields, and slopes under varying load conditions and speeds.
  • Evaluate and validate performance of critical systems including engine, transmission, PTO, hydraulics, steering, braking systems, 3-point hitch, auxiliary circuits, and implements.
  • Identify and document issues related to NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), drivetrain irregularities, hydraulic lag or oscillation, steering drift, brake fade, electrical faults, sensor anomalies, and operator interface (HMI) defects.
  • Conduct visual and functional inspections for leaks, loose components, misalignment, abnormal wear, sharp edges, fit and finish defects, and paint or coating issues.
  • Use OEM diagnostic tools or data acquisition systems to verify CAN bus communication, read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and capture operational data logs.
  • Communicate findings and provide detailed reports to cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality departments.
  • Support root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions based on test results.
  • Perform pre-operation safety inspections including checks of tires, fluid levels, lights, horn, ROPS, and seat belts.
  • Recommend improvements to product design, assembly processes, and testing procedures based on operational observations.

Position Purpose:

This driver role is responsible for driving a straight truck or van intrastate and/or interstate on local routes to deliver and unload various food and food related products to customers. This role generally handles deliveries of urgent orders due to mispicks and other customer service related issues. All routes are expected to be completed safely in accordance with all Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.   • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
  • Inspect truck/van for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products 
    that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paper work associated with freight. 
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to assigned delivery schedule. 
  • Unload products from truck/van, transport items into designated customer storage areas. Perform damage control checks on items, 
    scanning and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy. Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Collect money (cash or checks) where required. Load customer returns on to trailer and secure trailer doors.
  • Ensure that truck, van and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times. 
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.  Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state and company requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required. At the end of the shift secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.

This role involves operating a company van to deliver oversized collision partssuch as bumpers, fenders, and hoodsto wholesale and retail customers. The driver must be comfortable handling large, bulky items and providing professional customer service at every stop.

Duties include:

  • Operate a company van to deliver large and oversized collision auto parts.
  • Load and unload parts weighing up to 75 lbs using proper lifting techniques.
  • Verify delivery accuracy, inspect parts before departure, and secure items for transport.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and document any delivery issues.
  • Complete daily route sheets, delivery logs, and customer paperwork.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any maintenance concerns immediately.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules; comply with all traffic laws and company safety guidelines.
  • Report incidents, damages, or safety concerns to management promptly.
  • Represent the company in a courteous and customer-focused manner.
  • Maintain a basic familiarity with common collision parts (e.g., bumpers, fenders, reinforcements). When interacting with customers, be able to recognize related componentssuch as absorbers, retainers, or bracketsto help ensure accurate deliveries and confirm the correct items are received.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Clean driving record (subject to MVR check).
  • Must be at least 21 years old (insurance requirement).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 lbs repeatedly.
  • Able to enter/exit the delivery vehicle frequently throughout the day.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Must work in various weather conditions.
  • Basic English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Prior delivery experience preferred but not required.

Job Qualifications

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of inventory, warehouse, shipping, receiving, or related experience is required.
  2. Office skills must include the ability to use standard office equipment and general computer knowledge. Experience with Red Rock and EPIC warehouse information and inventory systems preferred.
  3. The ability to successfully achieve forklift certification.
  4. Must have a valid, unexpired Wisconsin Driver’s License.
