The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Dell Medical School, in conjunction with Ascension Seton and the Seton Family of Doctors seek a board‑certified or board‑eligible Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve on our inpatient team at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
What You'll Do:
Provide clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of mental health challenges for children and adolescents (ages 6–17) within a trauma‑informed, family-centered, multidisciplinary model.
The physician will collaborate closely with pediatric psychologists, psychiatrically trained nurses, behavioral health technicians, social workers, expressive therapists and other allied professionals; contribute to on‑call coverage for the Mental Health Unit; and actively engaged in education across disciplines – including medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and trainees.
Opportunities exist for collaboration in innovative clinical programming, quality improvement and team-based research.
This position is designed as 0.5 FTE inpatient psychiatry, combined with 0.5 FTE tailored to the candidate’s interests and program's needs (e.g., outpatient services, CL psychiatry or community mental health).
Qualifications Required:
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain prior to appointment.
Board certified in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or board eligible with commitment to obtain certification within two years.
Eligible for credentialing and privileging by Ascension Seton and within the local mental health authority.
Eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences.
Ability to influence and motivate others at all professional and administrative levels; demonstrated team leadership and teamwork.
Preferred:
Experience working in an academic medical center or university-affiliated health system.
Prior involvement in teaching medical students, residents, or fellows.
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams or integrated behavioral health settings.
Interest or experience in program development, quality improvement, or research initiatives.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, or experience working with different, underserved populations

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists with preparing and facilitating meetings, conferences, programs, and/or special events.
- Communicates with others in person, telephone, and/or email.
- Ensures medical appointments, special instructions, and patient information are entered into electronic medical system and/or delivered to the patient as required.
- Schedules patient visits and procedures as requested. Opens, adjusts, and closes clinics or surgery blocks. Coordinates scheduling and referrals with internal and external healthcare providers and services. Processes schedule changes or cancellations as appropriate.
- Works with patients to ensure medical clearance has been obtained prior to surgery. Works directly with patients and insurance providers to obtain prior authorizations, coordinate peer reviews, etc.
- Gathers information needed to schedule surgeries consistent with department guidelines.
- Manages select clinical research tasks including invoicing and coordination with sponsor.
- May be responsible for tracking and maintaining financial records and databases. May provide support for graduate medical education (GME) function.
- Works under an increased scope (e.g., number of providers, medical residency support) and demonstrates an advanced level of business and medical acumen/knowledge.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
