IOMS has a broad and dedicated referral base with the potential for growth with a new surgeon. IOMS focuses primarily on office-based procedures, emphasizing dental implant and augmentation procedures, dentoalveolar surgery, I.V. anesthesia, pathology, and some limited trauma and orthognathics. A new associate could expand their scope of practice as desired.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Trains patients and care partners on self-care home hemodialysis (HHD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) techniques, equipment use, infection control, and emergency procedures. Home Dialysis nurses will also conduct home visits to assess the environment and ensure safety and compliance. Home Dialysis nurses will also be required to take on call responsibilities for patient and care partner support during and after office hours, and on holidays. Performs the nursing process in a safe therapeutic manner in a designated clinical setting. Provides direct patient care (HHD/CAPD/CCPD) and monitoring of renal dialysis patients. Coordinates home dialysis activities within the frame work of the Federal Regulations, State and Local End Stage Renal Disease Network. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Registered nurse who has at least 2 years of experience as an RN, and six months experience in the specific home dialysis modality. BSN is highly preferred. Must meet career ladder Staff Nurse II criteria for specialty area worked. National Certification in Dialysis is preferred. Must have current American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Healthcare Provider card.

Coordinate with the Care Team (PCP, RN, Health Educator, LCSW, Director of Nursing and/or Chief Medical Officer) to ensure appropriate services are arranged for the patient in order for them to meet their goals.

Understand the role in the quality improvement process which may include meetings, data collection and charge auditing. Use Evidence Based Practice guidelines to assist with disease management.

The applicant will join a department of 9 neurosurgeons, 10 physician assistants, 6 nurse practitioners, 11 neurosurgical residents, and an established support team. Our neurosurgery team provides hope and healing to patients living with nervous system conditions through the development and implementation of comprehensive neurosurgical treatment plans tailored to our patients' goals, comfort and well-being. Practice Highlights
The neurosurgery program at MelroseWakefield hospital, a part of Tufts Medicine, is a comprehensive program that evaluates and treats patients with cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders. The administration is very supportive and dedicated to the growth of neurosurgery. The new hire will be charged with continuing growth in an already expanding spine-focused practice at MelroseWakefield Hospital. The candidate will spend 80-90% of their time at MelroseWakefield Hospital, providing inpatient, outpatient, and operative room care to the patients of the local community. Most procedures performed at MelroseWakefield Hospital are elective spinal procedures. The candidate would have the ability to bring cranial and more complex spine cases to Tufts Medical Center. Currently there are no neurosurgical resident physicians at the MelroseWakefield site although many other residencies, including general surgery, rotate through this hospital. Inpatient, outpatient, and operative assistance is provided by 2 dedicated neurosurgical physician assistants. The inpatient service involves intensive care and floor level patients in addition to emergency room and off-service consultations, including a Level 3 trauma center. This candidate will also participate in the shared call pool at Tufts Medical Center, an academic level 1 trauma center, to both foster intradepartmental relationship building as well as maintain cranial skill sets. MelroseWakefield has dedicated neurosurgical scrub techs, circulating nurses, C-arms, Jackson Tables, Wilson Frames, Mayfields, and Leica Surgical Microscopes. Spinal Navigation and Robotics are currently being budgeted for. Involvement in academic pursuits such as teaching of medical students/residents, attending academic conferences, and/or research can be supported although are not a requirement of this position. Anticipated first year volume of approximately 125 cases and 250+ once established. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Board certification or eligibility in Neurological Surgery (ABNS)
  • A team player who is excited to work cooperatively with a wide range of stakeholders and disciplines to champion world class patient satisfaction and support
  • Strong clinical emphasis on elective spine and general neurosurgery. Spine Fellowship is not required but a strong plus
  • Experience or strong desire in supporting a community-based practice
  • The ability to participate in teaching and academic clinical promotion if desired but not required
  • Current medical license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or the ability to obtain a license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine is required
