- We're looking for a motivated Engineering Technician (Contract) for support our Colossus quality assurance labs. In this role, you will be faced the challenge of providing a test-bed for our developers to test software on various hardware before releasing them.
- Additionally, collaborate with Infrastructure Engineers, installing and maintaining Windows/Linux platforms and using creativity while finding solutions.
- We expect things to break in this lab, as the software is mostly low-level device drivers, and the bugs in them do break boards and GPUs.
- We seek to catch problems early in our labs rather than in user devices.
- Our labs run more than 100,000 tests per day and is part of a DevOps pipeline that needs constant supervision, tracking, monitoring and break-fix.
What you'll be doing:
- Handling Labs and Datacenters using DCIM Tools, spreadsheets and task tracking tools.
- Your responsibilities will also include defining standards in labs to keep them safe, clean and organized.
- Deploy test boards that run automated tests from a Software Developers and triage and root cause board issues which are not due to hardware or software issues but, that potentially have test setup issues.
- Remove and redeploy boards that need software and/or hardware upgrades from board engineers in a regular cadence.
- Work closely and pro-actively with other engineering teams such as system architects, chip and board designers, software/firmware engineers, HW/SW QA teams and Applications engineering teams to drive design, development, debug and release of next generations products.
- Take active part in procurement decisions for Lab by choosing from various options available, getting test copies and doing proof of concepts and then providing recommendations.

- As a Process Engineer, you will own the safety, quality, productivity, procedures, training, maintenance, Gemba, continuous improvement, and sustainability within our South Carolina facility including the following processes: V-lapping, carding, laminating, die cut, and thermoforming of non-wovens
Responsibilities:
- Conduct all activities related to safe storage, handling, processing and disposition of raw materials and the preparation, operation, storage, handling, processing and disposition of equipment in the manufacturing areas. This includes, LPA/BBS audits, PPRA's, Risk Assessments and Spills.
- Work with R&D and PD groups during product/process development. Support all process development activities including material development scaleup, plant trials, equipment trials and the implementation/documentation of processing parameters and recipes from raw material to final part. Follow the PDP and ODP processes.
- Responsible for the preparation of Process Flow Segment Maps, PFMEAs for all new launched parts in compounding/conversion areas. Utilize part prints, DFMEAs, material specifications, FMA's, MCA's, Formula Recipes and equipment controls/limits as reference for their creation. Work with the quality department to see that these are carried over into the control plans and floor paperwork.
- Lead all activities related to process launches including investigations, feasibility, proposals, trials/runoffs of processing equipment. Project Manage the recommended processing equipment including design reviews, equipment signoffs, run at rates and capability studies to produce any existing or new material/products at quoted/standard rates and efficiencies. Follow the CLP process for all capital expenditures.
- Interface with production, quality, support technicians and maintenance technicians to troubleshoot and eliminate material quality and process failure issues (including Gemba, Kaizen, RedX, Is/IsNot, DOE's, and other studies so causes & effects can be identified). Drive continuous improvement with respect to quality (1st Pass Yield) and productivity (OEE).
- Establish parameters/limits based on the statistical capabilities (6 sigma principles) and the OSI data of the process to produce consistent quality materials and products. Ensure for each manufacturing line, the process inputs are meeting/exceeding their requirements by review and analysis and their outputs are supported.

The position works closely with Human Resources and Finance staff to assist with benefits deductions, support audit preparation, and response to employee inquiries, while also serving as a backup to the Payroll Supervisor when needed.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The incumbent must have the ability to:
- Coordinate and participate in the preparation and distribution of payroll.
- Understand, interpret and apply the fundamental principles of payroll accounting.
- Provide supervision, performance evaluation and training to assigned staff.
- Review time sheets submitted by all departments to ensure conformance with appropriate bargaining unit contracts and administrative policies and regulations.
- Maintain payroll records regarding salary changes, retirement, employment tax withholding, fringe benefits, voluntary deductions and leave balances; input personnel information and time sheet data.
- Review and edit documents, correct errors and balance payroll for each pay period.
- Prepare quarterly and annual federal and state tax reports; prepare and distribute W-2's.
- Compile and distribute all required reports related to payroll activity.
- Maintain and audit personal leave program records for all employees; distribute balance reports to all departments each pay period.
- Plan and initiate payroll programming changes.
- Perform other accounting tasks assigned, such as preparation of journal entries relating to payroll and reconciliation on a computerized system.
- Participate in special studies and projects as required.
- Analyze and implement new laws and regulations.
- Learn and apply personnel policies and procedures.
- Operate computer equipment and related software in the preparation and distribution of payroll.
- Analyze fiscal data and draw logical conclusions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and data using a computer key board. Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone service and communication in person.

Training: Completion of the twelfth grade or GED supplemented by college level accounting coursework.

Salary range:
A reasonable estimate for this position is $4,000 to $6,000 per course. Instructor compensation is determined by course length, number of units, enrollment, budgetary considerations, and other factors.
Percent time:
Part-time temporary appointments are offered by agreement on a course-by-course basis.
Anticipated start:
Classes are expected to begin in August for the fall term and January for the spring term.

UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified instructors to teach in-person professional post-baccalaureate courses for our Business, Data, and Innovation Visiting Student Programs. All courses are offered weekdays in-person on the UC Berkeley campus with some online instructional components.
