POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Department Director, the Category Manager has oversight to center store categories in terms of itemization, innovation, and financial performance. The Category Manager qualifies vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. The role is responsible for organizing and articulating the near and long-term strategic vision of their assigned categories and communicating that vision across the organization.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Negotiate costs, promotions, assortment, and other metrics with vendors/suppliers for assigned categories of products managed;
  • Analyze sales and profit performance for assigned categories and suppliers/vendors and make appropriate business decisions related to results;
  • Assist procurement team in appropriate inventory management and creation of purchase orders for products handled through our self-distribution process. Negotiate favorable costs and terms;
  • Dedicate appropriate time and effort into innovation of assortment and merchandising for assigned categories. Responsible for driving sales growth with new items and promotions;
  • Complete full Category Review Process with all assigned categories minimally once per year;
  • Accountable to full financial performance of the assigned categories;
  • Provide strong customer service to Team Members;
  • Manage relationships with Strategic Vendor Partners and garners support (financial, resources) to sustain the strategic vision;
  • Develop Category Business Plans (CBP) for managed categories (if applicable);
  • Work collaboratively with all Team Members to create effective vendor relationships establish strategic relations with key suppliers, and manage vendor funding to drive profitable category growth;
  • Approve section sizes and adjacencies in schematic plans for individually managed categories;
  • Assist with creation of business case for capital expenditures (shelving, fixtures, and store layout) to present to Senior Management;
  • As required by specific department work with support staff and distribution center staff to maintain appropriate inventory levels, acceptable turns and good code dating for items purchased into the distribution centers;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.




SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field or equivalent work experience, preferred;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in product negotiation and procurement;
  • Knowledge of supplier and logistic systems, as well as knowledge of the federal grade/product standards and regulations;
  • Understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices;
  • Ability to integrate with local management, be part of a team, and drive business results;
  • Ability to be persuasive and relentless in reinforcing the best interests of the company;
  • Effective communicator, particularly when it comes to discussing Human Resources/Compliance matters with management or regular employees;
  • Must have a great deal of integrity;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multitask;

Category Manager Start: immediately in Rosemont, IL (Remote, field-based position) / United States Permanent position, Full-time

TheCategory Manager, as part of our Category Management team, plays a strategic role supporting HARIBO of America's growth within your assigned retailer accounts/retail channels. Supporting our Sales organization, the Category Manager will deliver insight led strategies to support our fact-based sales and business development teams. In a customer facing capacity, this role will also attend customer meetings with our sales team while working cross-functionally to maximize category growth and drive competitive advantage for HARIBO.

This is a remote, field-based position that requires nation-wide travel, up to 40% of the time (with overnight stays). The ideal Category Manager will have 5+ years of experience in Category Management, Sales, Sales Strategy, or Commercial Insights roles within the CPG/Consumer Packaged Goods industry with 3+ of these years in a customer facing role with HQ/headquarters calls experience. Additionally, this candidate will also have a Bachelor's Degree, advanced working knowing of syndicated data and shopper data tools such as IRI, Circana, Nielsen, Numerator, SPINS, or other relevant syndicated data tools relevant to the consumer good industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of retailer-specific category growth strategies for assigned customers/retailers
  • Deliver actionable 4P insights - Product, Placement, Pricing, Promotion) that directly fuel selling efforts and joint business planning
  • Create customer-facing selling stories
  • Act as a thought leader in internal strategy discussions
  • Participate in sales meetings and HQ/headquarter calls with Sales team
  • Build scalable reporting tools and dashboards to drive data-based decision making

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Category Management, Sales, Sales Strategy, or Commercial Insights roles within the CPG/Consumer Packaged Goods industry
  • Deep expertise in syndicated and shopper data tools such as IRI, Circana, NielsenIQ, Numerator, or other related syndicated data tools
  • 3+ years of customer facing, headquarters calls experience supporting regional or national retailers (any channel)
  • This is a remote, field-based position that requires the ability to travel up to 40% of the time, nation-wide, including overnight stays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This is a remote-field based position. The ideal candidate will live near a major airport due to the extended amount of nation-wide travel required for this role
  • Experience in multiple channels of trade (for example: Convenience, Dollar, Value, Mass, Club, Grocery, etc)
  • Prior experience in candy, confectionery, snacks, or related fast-moving consumer good

Compensation

Target Hiring Pay Range: $118,000 - $144,000 annually

This pay range represents the min/max target annual base salary range HARIBO of America, Inc. may pay for this position at the time of this posting.

JOB SUMMARY

As an Category Management Intern, the role will carry out responsibilities such as but not limited to assist the Category Manager with the analysis of various data to develop detailed reports and presentations for the diverse needs of the Deli division. The role includes contributing to all Category outputs and developing continuous improvements wherever possible. Additionally, the Category Management Intern will collaborate with the Category Manager and cross-functional teams to align duties with the company's goals and values.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Analysis:

* Utilize data platforms to build an array of reports in support of various business needs (Sales, Marketing, Trade, Account, and Distributor.)

* Develop a clear understanding of syndicated data measures. d Distributor).

* Assist in the analysis of syndicated data reports to assess category performance and identify opportunities for growth.


Report/ Presentation Building:

* Assist in building customer business reviews that assess category performance and highlight opportunities for growth.

* Transition syndicated data reports into a presentation- ready format to be shared with customers through the effective use of PowerPoint and Excel.

* Publish monthly reports for internal review with account managers.

* Assist with building customer sales presentations for various accounts as needed.


Category Development:

* Develop a clear understanding of the specialty cheese category and drivers of growth.

* Become familiar with the Lactalis product line and help identify opportunities for growth.

* Become familiar with the assigned account business.

* Support various sales teams and varying customer needs. IE National, Key and Distributor businesses.
