Job Summary:
As a Machine Operator for H&S, you'll be setting up and operating Boring Mills, Lathes, Hobbing, and Grinding Machines to machine industrial gearing parts to specific tolerances. The operator is responsible for operating controls, setting offsets, editing programs, some deburring, and performing self-inspection of parts in-process and upon completion for conformance to requirements. The Operator will also use large overhead cranes and other large equipment.

Position Overview
The successful candidate will handle advanced immigration litigation, including but not limited to:
- Federal habeas corpus petitions challenging unlawful immigration detention under INA §§ 1225, 1226, and 1231
- Emergency motions for stays of removal and temporary restraining orders in federal district courts
- Appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)
- Petitions for Review and emergency stay litigation before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals
- Litigation involving due process violations, bond jurisdiction, prolonged detention, UAC issues, misclassification of detention authority, and extradition-removal crossover issues
This role involves substantial writing, strategic litigation planning, and court appearances, often on an expedited basis.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active New York Bar admission (Second Circuit admission strongly preferred)
- Minimum 5+ years of immigration litigation experience, with substantial exposure to:
- Federal habeas corpus practice
- BIA appellate briefing
- Federal district court litigation
- Circuit-court appellate practice
- Demonstrated experience drafting:
- Habeas petitions
- Emergency motions and TROs
- Appellate briefs and stays
- Complex legal memoranda with heavy case citation
- Deep knowledge of immigration detention statutes, constitutional due process principles, and federal jurisdiction
- Exceptional legal research and writing skills
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters under tight deadlines
Preferred Experience (Highly Valued)
- Prior litigation in SDNY, EDNY, or Second Circuit
- Experience with:
- Bond-related habeas litigation
- Trump-era detention policies
- UAC custody challenges
- VAWA, asylum, and CAT-related federal litigation
- Familiarity with PACER/ECF, emergency filings, and federal court practice rules
- Spanish or other language proficiency (not required, but a plus)
Responsibilities
- Draft and litigate federal habeas corpus petitions and related motions
- Prepare BIA briefs and motions to reopen/reconsider
- Handle federal appellate filings, including emergency stays
- Appear in federal district court and appellate proceedings as needed
- Collaborate with trial-level immigration attorneys and support staff
- Mentor junior attorneys on federal litigation strategy
- Maintain meticulous legal research and case tracking

Position overview
We are seeking attorneys with at least three (3+) years of experience with insurance coverage, bad faith, and/or commercial litigation, with additional value placed on familiarity with construction‐related insurance and risk transfer.
In this role, you will work as part of a collaborative, policyholder‐only practice handling sophisticated matters that involve analyzing and interpreting a wide range of insurance policies, managing significant coverage disputes, and addressing issues tied to commercial property, liability, builders' risk, professional lines, cyber, and other specialized coverages. You will have the opportunity to engage directly with clients, develop strategies for resolving high‐stakes insurance and construction‐related challenges, and contribute to the design of comprehensive coverage and risk‐transfer solutions.
This position is well‐suited for someone who wants meaningful case ownership, enjoys tackling complex insurance issues, and is looking to deepen their experience in policyholder representation within a supportive and team‐driven environment.
Key responsibilities
- Manage litigation matters from inception through resolution, including strategy development and client communication.
- Conduct insurance coverage and claim analysis for complex commercial and construction-related matters.
- Draft and argue substantive motions, including dispositive and coverage-related motions.
- Prepare and respond to written discovery; draft pleadings and briefs.
- Take and defend depositions of parties, experts, and fact witnesses.
- Handle motion practice and court appearances in state and federal courts.
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals.
- Collaborate with colleagues across offices in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active admission to the California Bar; admission in additional states is a plus.
- 3+ years of litigation experience in insurance coverage and/or complex commercial litigation is required
- Exposure to construction law and construction defect is preferred.
- Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Experience with pleadings, depositions, and motion practice.
- Experience drafting complex motions and/or appellate briefs preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
