What’s the Job?
- Operate CMM machines (e.g., MicroVu, OGP Smartscope) to inspect machined parts and assemblies.
- Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) requirements.
- Execute pre-written CMM inspection programs and record results accurately.
- Write, edit, and debug CMM programs (preferably using software such InSpec and Zone3).
- Perform first article, receiving, in-process, and final inspections as required.
What’s Needed?
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or associate degree preferred).
- 2+ years of experience operating CMM equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CMM programming using InSpec and/or Zone3.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.

Job Description
Core Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
* Accurately diagnose engine, transmission, electrical, brake, and suspension issues on diesel trucks and trailers.
* Use diagnostic software, scan tools, and testing equipment to isolate and identify root causes.
* Perform DOT inspections and identify safety-related concerns.
2. Repairs & Maintenance
* Complete preventive maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, greasing, and fluid checks.
* Perform major and minor repairs to diesel engines, drivetrains, clutches, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, cooling systems, and trailer systems.
* Repair or replace defective parts using power tools, hand tools, and equipment.
* Repair trailer components (electrical, air lines, lights, ABS, axles, doors, suspensions, etc.)
3. Documentation & Reporting
* Complete repair orders with accurate notes, parts used, time logged, and labor performed.
* Take before/after photos where applicable for customer transparency.
* Communicate any delays or additional issues found to service advisor or foreman immediately.
4. Workflow & Shop Support
* Follow assigned job schedules and maintain efficiency goals (track productivity based on billed hours vs. clocked time).
* Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized at all times.
* Participate in shift meetings and communicate effectively with parts and service staff.
* Help train and support junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
5. Tools, Equipment & Safety
* Maintain and secure personal and shop tools used during repairs.
* Operate shop equipment such as lifts, jacks, torque wrenches, tire machines, and welding equipment.
* Follow all OSHA and shop safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and reporting hazards.
6. Customer Interaction (as needed)
* Occasionally assist with customer explanations (when asked by service advisor).
* Conduct test drives and verify repairs when necessary.

Position Description:
Perform sub assembly and final assembly processes on a variety of mechanical and electrical assemblies. Perform job set-up by obtaining necessary/required parts, drawings, and schematics. Check for correctness of parts by referencing the bill of material. Read and interpret drawings and schematics.
Communicate with engineers, designers, and technicians to resolve assembly discrepancies.
Perform ongoing inspection of product during assembly and wiring process and prior to products shipment.
Lift and position assemblies. Operate overhead hoist/crane to assist with the lifting and control of moving/positioning of assembly.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
Set-up and performs Assembly Department operations with minimum supervision.
Familiar with mechanical and electromechanical components.
Thorough understanding of part prints (tolerances, symbols, etc.).
Perform checks for quality of parts and make adjustments as required.

The technician will play a key role in maintaining production flow by preparing machines for new jobs, resolving equipment issues, and ensuring finished components meet engineering specifications. This position requires hands-on experience with cold heading equipment, strong mechanical troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete machine setups and changeovers on multi-die cold heading equipment.
- Install, align, and adjust tooling including dies, punches, knockouts, and cutoff components.
- Configure feed systems, timing mechanisms, and forming stations for optimal production.
- Conduct first-piece inspections and verify part quality prior to full production runs.
- Interpret blueprints, job instructions, and technical drawings to ensure proper machine configuration.
- Monitor production output and make process adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot machine issues such as misfeeds, alignment problems, tooling failures, and dimensional variation.
- Inspect tooling for wear or damage and coordinate repairs or replacements when necessary.
- Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and optical measuring tools.
- Record setup parameters, inspection data, and production information as required.
- Follow established quality standards and manufacturing procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety policies.
- Perform lockout/tagout procedures when conducting setups or machine maintenance.
- Support process improvements aimed at reducing scrap, improving efficiency, and increasing production reliability.
- Communicate effectively with production, quality, and tooling teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2–5 years of experience working with cold heading equipment or similar metal forming machinery.
- Experience performing machine setups and tooling changes in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with multi-die cold heading machines (National, Sacma, Hatebur, or similar equipment).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and thread gauges.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with team members and auditors.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on product quality and safety.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
