We are seeking an Associate Product Development Scientist for our First Quality Products site located in Lewistown, PA.

This position is responsible for creating, developing, and implementing new and proprietary designs of absorbent-related product systems based upon business, customer, and consumer needs as well as provide support for the needs of present product systems to assure competitive performance and value.

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the Product Development team; execute projects in timely, diligent, safe, and professional manner, and contribute to the growth of the team and department.
  • Design new products and product improvements to meet business and consumer needs.
  • Develop new and improved materials and technologies with suppliers, and ensure all new raw materials obtain proper safety testing and clearance.
  • Use basic Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to develop experimental plans.
  • Support the existing business product cost improvements through product redesigns.
  • Provide technical support to reduce consumer complaints.
  • Support corporate proprietary technology by documenting and patenting novel ideas.
  • Develop new test methods to better predict and understand product performance in use.
  • Work with more senior scientist or manager to help set project objectives.
  • Coach and develop indirect reports to enhance team performance towards department objectives.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Able to travel ~20-30% to US and International for product and process trials.
  • Four-year technical degree (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering) or equivalent; additional business studies preferred.
  • 3+ years in R&D inventing, developing, and implementing new products.
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing product systems for the retail market, preferably hygiene products.
  • Knowledge of materials used in retail absorbent products (e.g. pulp, super absorbent polymers, nonwovens).
  • Working knowledge of consumer product converting technologies for pulp, paper, and nonwoven materials.
  • Experience with the process of searching, evaluating, and filing patents.
  • Experience providing direction for the physical testing of hypotheses, resulting in specific conclusions and recommendations.
  • Able to speak, read and write the English language and have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills, with working knowledge of basic statistics.

Essential Duties of the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the hourly and salaried personnel assigned to the department, including making work assignments, and providing personnel training.
  • Ensure that work is completed in accordance with all contractual/operating requirements, Company objectives and in compliance with established quality standards.
  • Train, upgrade skills, and utilize human resources to optimal usage.
  • Monitor performance and efficiency of employees’ work efforts and take initiative to correct deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate records related to department/shift activities.
  • Educate and direct the department workforce in the importance of performing all activities in accordance with established safety practice. Supports resolution of safety deficiencies within the department.
  • Enforce company work rules and implement disciplinary action when necessary. Conduct regular assessment of employee performance, participate in improving morale and work performance. Provide training of personnel to maximize flexibility and efficiency.
  • Develop improved operational methods that result in improved efficiency and reduction of costs.

  • Initiate material transfers within the ERP System.
  • Obtain "pick lists" from Production Control and provide them to warehousepersons for gathering of material/parts.
  • Issue material to the PCC jobs within the ERP System.
  • Initiate receipts of direct/drop shipments within the ERP System.
  • Coordinate receipt and tracking of GFE/GFM among the warehousepersons, the Engineering Department and other functions within the organization, including matching PCC assigned part numbers on receipt records to GFE/GFM lot stickers.
  • Initiate action upon receipt of material that requires receipt inspection or verification prior to release.
  • Perform monthly cycle counting and annual physical inventory audit
  • Provide metric reports for timely receiving, storage, and shipment
  • Develop the use of technology to aid with speed and accuracy of department job functions
  • Properly segregate and handle hazardous and flammable materials
  • Monitor and control material with expiration dates
  • Utilize kanban and other lean tools to improve workflow practices
  • Coordinate tracking and restocking of equipment, tools, and gauges
  • Work toward tracking of work in process (WIP) items


Education/Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Two to five years of experience in manufacturing operation, preferably in the area of shipping, receiving, and warehousing activities, or the equivalent.
  • Excellent computer skills required. Must be capable of working with ERP systems and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to supervise people, and successfully interface with multiple functional areas.Must organize input/data from multiple persons into a final result which is consistent with Company objectives.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Performs all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies.
  • Acquires tools needed for daily operations
  • Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
  • Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
  • Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Mixes concrete.
  • Smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
  • Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.
  • Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Paving Duties:
    • Assists with pre-run markings
    • Uses a paving lute to fine grade before roller man compacts
    • Operates vibratory plate as needed
    • Shovels asphalt as required
    • Direct traffic around work area as required
  • Pipe Duties:
    • Gets tools needed for daily operations
    • Gets job set up for daily function such as setting up a pipe laser
    • Operates a Wacker and jumping jack to perform backfilling duties
    • Uses cut saws to make pipe proper length
    • Preps pipe for connection before pipe gets lowered
    • Shoots grades and checks grades using laser or conventional methods
    • Performs connection of pipe work
    • Responsible for checking for proper pipe slope
    • Preps structures for installation
  • Other duties as assigned

 



Qualifications

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • One month of related experience and/or training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Mathematical skills including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Problem solving
  • Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

  • Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries

Assessment & Management

  • Performs complete history & physicals and documents in the medical record.
  • Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • The APP may serve as the first responder for both nursing and house staff in the event of patient status changes, orders, and in situations requiring procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • Assesses for risks associated with the care of the acute and complex chronically ill patient including medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions and diagnostic procedures.

Diagnosis

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulates differential diagnoses by priority.

Formulates Plan of Care

  • Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulates and documents a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs.

  • Documents/dictates key components of patient's progress via daily progress note, transfer, and discharge summary, and or clinic note where applicable.   • Documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards and captures patient acuity.
