Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for Designer/Drafter 1 and Designer/Drafter 2 positions for the Los Alamos National Laboratory!

Salary: $34-$40/hr

Location: Los Alamos, NM (100% onsite)

Impact

The Designer/Drafter will support preconstruction and execution activities by producing detailed drawings, layouts, and material takeoffs that directly enable successful fabrication and installation efforts. This role ensures designs are accurate, constructible, and aligned with industry codes, customer specifications, and operational requirements. The position contributes to mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and fire suppression system projects within a highly regulated technical environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Produce and detail routine drawings and layouts of components, facilities, and systems
  • Generate and modify computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of moderate complexity based on provided information
  • Use industry codes, standards, and customer specifications to prepare work plans, drawings, and layouts
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure drawing quality and accuracy
  • Develop CAD drawings and design models under the direction of a senior designer
  • Perform calculations in support of technical problems
  • Apply engineering design principles to the design and fabrication of components and assemblies
  • Produce work in accordance with budget and schedule constraints
  • Participate in two-phase design review cycles (initial and final reviews)
  • Conduct design reviews prior to construction to ensure readiness for execution
  • Develop shop drawings with dimensions to support craft installation
  • Perform material takeoffs from native files and support procurement with accurate material ordering
  • Understand fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance requirements relevant to the designated discipline
  • Conduct walkdowns in TA-55, PF4, and various warehouses (government vehicle provided)
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Participate in process improvement activities

Minimum Qualifications

Designer/Drafter 1:

  • High school diploma and 1–2 years of related drafting/design experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Designer/Drafter 2

  • High school diploma and 3–5 years of related drafting/design experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

For Both Levels

  • Experience using CAD drafting tools (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Ability to perform work onsite in a radiological environment (PF4)
  • Ability to work 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday, 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance

The Guidance Electronics Team provides Electrical Systems Engineering to develop Guidance Electronics solutions for products across the Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD) portfolio. The Guidance Electronics Team is searching for a Senior GPS Subsystems Engineer with experience in GPS technology. The role of the GPS Subsystems Engineer is to provide GPS electronics solution for missile products. GPS electronics solution includes architecture development, requirement definition, electronics design, analysis, modelling and testing. GPS Subsystem Engineer collaborates with missile level system engineers in developing requirements for the subsystem. They perform analysis and modeling to decompose requirements for GPS sub-assemblies and component designs.

What You Will Do

  • Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include labs, field work, or a combination.

This is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You will Do

  • Update, maintain, and improve technical documentation for TE development and production efforts.
  • Lead and Support TE Design Verification testing/Data collection, prove-in activities and sustainment/maintenance.
  • Participate in Failure Investigations.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer within and across IPTs/CPTs to include Cross-Functional collaboration and coordination.
  • Facilitate and drive transition to production efforts.
  • Own the scope and budget of a large group of control accounts.
  • Ensure technical rigor for all TE scope
  • Coordinate across teams and potentially contracts as applicable
  • Share program process knowledge
  • Mentor earlier in career engineers

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in at least 1 of the following areas:
    • Mechanical/Electrical development, integration, and qualification
    • Test Equipment Design and Verification
    • Fielding Test Equipment to a Government Customer
    • Test Equipment Maintenance for Production Support
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP) / Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and/or Risk and Opportunity Management.
  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access prior to start. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degree in STEM.
  • Experience as a subject matter expert in technical briefs / presentations, proposals, fracas.
  • Champion all of RTX values.
  • Experience with CREO, cPDM and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with military systems; tactics, techniques, and procedures along with DoD customer infrastructure experience.
  • Understanding of Test Equipment Product Development Cycle.
  • Familiarity with system safety, reliability, configuration management, and evaluating / mitigating technical risks.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
