  • Supervise and schedule grading, drainage, paving, structures, and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors on a daily basis
  • Provide leadership and direction to construction personnel

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience performing bridge safety inspections in Virginia.

Responsibilities: Lead field inspection teams in performing bridge and structural inspections in accordance with NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards).

Plan, coordinate, and execute inspection projects to meet client and regulatory requirements.

Perform hands-on inspection of bridges and related structures, including climbing, operating under-bridge inspection units, and utilizing rope access or other specialized methods as required.

Review, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local regulations and inspection standards.

Document inspection findings through detailed reports, including field notes, photographs, and condition assessments.

Mentor and supervise inspection staff, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Coordinate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders regarding schedules, deliverables, and inspection outcomes.

Maintain compliance with company safety protocols and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in structural or NBIS bridge inspection.

Current NBIS Team Leader Certification per Title 23, Chapter I, Subchapter G, Part 650, Subpart C § 650.309 or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment Strong knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and VDOT bridge inspection requirements.

Experience in NC, WV, and MD is a “bonus” Proficiency in inspection software, data collection tools, and Microsoft Office.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Working knowledge of MicroStation and MS Office Completed comprehensive training course based on the FHWA Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (BIRM) (NHI Course 130055) and be currently with refresher requirements Must be willing to work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignment Additional NHI coursework: Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NHI Course 130078), Inspection of Ancillary Highway Structures (NHI Course 130087B) preferred Physical Requirements (Essential Functions): This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions.

Duties may include: Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces Moving around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing Remaining in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of time Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or carting objects up to 50 lbs distances up to 250 yards.

Driving to and from project sites which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 200 miles round trip.

Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including, but not limited to those described in this document.

The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements.

Work may also be performed in noisy conditions or confined/enclosed spaces.
