Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering discipline, Construction Management, or other related technical degree; or significant field experience that has evolved into leadership roles over time.

Job Title : Nuclear Engineer (Naval Reactors Engineer) Category / Component : Officer • Active Overview Design, regulate, and oversee the Navy's nuclear propulsion program, including reactor design, fleet operations, and eventual defueling and decommissioning of nuclear powered ships and submarines from Naval Reactors Headquarters and associated Department of Energy laboratories and shipyards.

The Role We Want You For

The Electrical Estimator participates in all aspects of the preconstruction process for Electrical systems to develop accurate, detailed cost estimates with a focus on heavy/advanced manufacturing, industrial, and mission critical projects. In this role, you will be expected to interact with engineers, architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, a multi-discipline estimating team, project supervision, and field personnel.

The Specifics of the Role

• Periodically attend pre-bid meetings to become familiar with unique project requirements and analyze existing site conditions to determine required scope not already indicated.
• Review and interpret project documents (drawings, specifications, one-lines, equipment and cable schedules, site layouts, power distribution plans, etc.) to determine job-specific material, equipment, and labor requirements for scope development.
• Assist in preparing written scopes of work for subcontracts and suppliers and coordinate electrical scopes with the work of other trades (e.g., civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, process, etc.).

• Perform quantity surveys of electrical systems and components (power distribution, switchgear, MCCs, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, controls, etc.) using digitized software and apply industry standard labor rates to develop accurate cost estimates.
• Evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals for conformance with requirements; level scopes and identify low-cost/best-value responses while clearly documenting assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications.
• Assist in the preparation of estimates used for bidding and budgeting purposes (including self-performed work); participate in internal estimate review processes and assist with final recap of estimates for presentation to senior management.

• Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or a combination of education (including trade schools) and professional experience.
• 3+ years’ experience in construction with 1+ years’ experience estimating electrical systems (power, controls, and related infrastructure).

The Specifics of the Role

• Perform mechanical/HVAC takeoffs and quantity surveys (major HVAC equipment and other mechanical equipment and systems) and develop detailed procurement estimates.
• Solicit, level, and validate supplier/manufacturer quotes; confirm scope, inclusions/exclusions, alternates, and delivery assumptions.
• Support intercompany sales efforts by engaging OEMs, reps, and distributors, maintaining pricing intelligence, and helping identify new procurement opportunities.
• Evaluate bills of material for completeness and accuracy; flag gaps, long-lead items, and coordination concerns (power, controls, structural, seismic, space/clearances).
• Assist with contract review from a procurement perspective (commercial terms, freight, taxes, escalation, liquidated damages, warranty, service/startup).
• Gather and prepare submittal packages (equipment schedules, cut sheets, performance data, controls narratives) and track reviews/returns to keep the buyout schedule on track.
• Create purchase requisitions / product lists and support purchase order and change order preparation with clear scope and quantities.
• Track orders and logistics (lead times, releases, fabrication, shipping, storage); coordinate with the project team on site constraints and delivery windows.
• Maintain procurement documentation (quote logs, bid tabs, vendor correspondence) and support closeout deliverables as assigned (warranties, O&M manuals, spare parts).

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of mechanical construction and HVAC systems/equipment; able to read plans/specs and speak the language of engineers, contractors, and OEMs.
• 5+ years of procurement experience preferred; or equivalent combination of mechanical/HVAC field, estimating, or project support experience with demonstrated procurement capability.
• Experience with estimating/takeoffs, bid leveling, and vendor communication; detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
• Working knowledge of construction fundamentals, coordination practices, and project documentation (submittals, RFIs, change orders).

This role supports the design, coordination, and oversight of electrical power systems, primarily within power generation or industrial facilities. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to manage design activities with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Power System Design

• Assist in preparing and overseeing electrical power system designs, including scope documents, schedules, and budgets.
• Develop and review single-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, layouts, and circuitry designs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Design Engineer at TASSCO, you will lead the design and execution of custom-engineered bulk material handling systems and components for abrasive environments. This role combines deep technical expertise in material flow, structural design, and wear mitigation with a hands-on, project-driven approach. You’ll own projects from concept to final implementation—ensuring system reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.

You will collaborate closely with sales, operations, manufacturing, and field teams while leveraging tools such as AutoCAD Inventor and discrete element modeling (DEM) to optimize performance. Your designs will directly contribute to the success of capital and MRO projects across industries including mining, aggregates, power generation, and heavy industrial.

LOCATION: Birmingham, Alabama. Office hours: 7:30-4:30pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead engineering design of custom bulk material handling systems including transfer chutes, towers, supports, and liners
• Apply DEM software and simulation data to enhance material flow and reduce wear
• Create detailed design packages including 3D models, BOMs, stress calculations, and manufacturing notes
• Specify structural reinforcements, wear-resistant materials, and overlay/fabrication techniques
• Interface with CNC, plasma cutting, forming, and welding processes to ensure manufacturability
• Coordinate closely with sales, estimating, shop, and field service teams throughout the design cycle
• Review customer bid packages and translate specifications into actionable engineering plans
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight on drafting, design standards, and QA processes
• Deliver complete design proposals including scope definition, system layout, and budget analysis

SUCCESS METRICS

First 3 Months: Learn TASSCO’s design standards, ERP workflows, materials, and key systems. Support ongoing projects with AutoCAD 3D layouts and fabrication drawings. Begin conducting DEM model reviews and participating in site visits

First 6 Months: Independently lead small-to-mid-size design projects and generate full drawing packages. Perform structural calculations and specify reinforcement and wear treatments. Incorporate DEM results into optimized designs and complete at least one full system

First Year: Deliver multiple large-scale designs with high accuracy and manufacturability. Lead capital and MRO project design scopes from concept to implementation. Mentor team members and propose improvements in materials or processes for performance gains

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.

Experience:

• 8–10 years of engineering experience in mechanical or structural design, ideally within custom steel fabrication or heavy industrial systems.
• Proven background designing bulk material handling systems or other engineered-to-order capital equipment.

Certifications:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong plus but not required.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Inventor and 3D modeling.
• Hands-on experience with discrete element modeling (DEM) software for flow simulation.
• Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques (e.g., overlay, hard-facing), CNC processes, and manufacturing constraints.
• Experience applying AWS, AISC, and OSHA standards to structural and welded assemblies.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and project tracking tools.

We are seeking a Senior Inspector to support our Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) services for transportation and infrastructure projects. This is a skilled sub-professional engineering position involving both field and office duties. The Senior Inspector will act as an Assistant Project Manager, providing oversight and direction to project inspectors, and reporting directly to the Project Manager. The role requires strong knowledge of construction inspection methods, documentation, surveying, and drafting techniques.

· Direct and coordinate daily activities of inspection staff on active construction projects

· Review inspector documentation for accuracy and completeness

· Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and ALDOT standards

· Utilize surveying and drafting skills to support inspection documentation

· Assist in resolving field issues by coordinating with contractors, project managers, and clients

· Maintain organized records of inspection reports, testing logs, and work zone compliance

· Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including DCS staff, ALDOT personnel, and contractors

· Eight (8) years of experience in construction inspection, surveying, or highway materials testing

OR Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with two

(2) years of experience in construction inspection, surveying, or highway materials testing

· Ability to lead inspection teams and coordinate day-to-day CE&I tasks

· Familiarity with ALDOT specifications, documentation procedures, and testing requirements

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, drafting/surveying software)

· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from job sites

One or more of the following may be required depending on project assignment:

· Asphalt Level I Laboratory Technician Certification

· Asphalt Level II Quality Management Technician Certification

· Certified Concrete Technician (ACI and ALDOT)

· Roadway HMA Pavement Technician Certification

· Work Zone Safety Certification

· Radiation Safety Technician Certification

· Qualified Credentialed Inspector (QCI)

· Contract Plan Reading Certification
