The Role We Want You For

LJC is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of life sciences manufacturing facilities across a range of therapeutic and production modalities. This role focuses on defining process requirements, equipment needs, and operational workflows that inform facility planning and engineering design for regulated manufacturing environments.

The Process Engineer works closely with clients, process architects, utilities engineers, mechanical engineers, and construction teams to translate manufacturing processes into clear, coordinated design solutions. While experience across multiple modalities is valued, candidates with deep expertise in a specific modality are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Specifics of the Role

• Lead or support process definition and design efforts for life sciences manufacturing facilities from early planning through construction support.
• Define process flows, unit operations, equipment requirements, and space needs to support regulated manufacturing operations.
• Develop process narratives, block flow diagrams, and equipment layouts that inform architectural and engineering design.
• Collaborate with clients to understand manufacturing objectives, capacity requirements, product mix, and operational constraints.
• Work closely with process architects and project teams to translate process requirements into compliant, efficient, and flexible facility layouts.
• Coordinate with critical utilities, mechanical, electrical, automation, and architectural teams to align process needs with supporting systems and infrastructure.
• Support front-end project efforts by contributing to proposals, technical narratives, and early planning concepts.
• Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and planning sessions related to process definition, capacity planning, and operational strategy.
• Support compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including GMP/GxP expectations and relevant industry guidelines.
• Review process-related design deliverables to ensure alignment with defined process requirements and overall project objectives.
• Participate in multidisciplinary coordination reviews to resolve process-related design challenges.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, manufacturing platforms, and best practices across life sciences modalities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in life sciences manufacturing process engineering within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or advanced therapy environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting at least one major life sciences manufacturing modality, such as:
• Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs)
• Fill–finish (aseptic or non-aseptic)
• Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), including cell and gene therapies
• mRNA
• Vaccines
• Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API)
• Oral solid dosage (OSD)
• Exposure to additional modalities, platforms, or production technologies is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of regulated manufacturing processes, unit operations, and equipment typical of life sciences facilities.
• Experience translating process requirements into facility design inputs, equipment layouts, and engineering criteria.
• Familiarity with GMP/GxP environments and regulatory expectations.
• Experience working in a design-build or fast-track project delivery environment preferred.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage in client-facing technical discussions and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, architectural, and construction teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred but not required.

Compensation

• The salary range for this position considers a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: Education, qualifications, skills, training, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The Clayco Nationwide salary range for this position is approximately $135,000 - $185,000 +/- annually (not adjusted for location).

The Role We Want You For

As Advanced Manufacturing Market Leader you will have overall responsibility for market P&L, strategic market direction, project development, sales campaigns, client relations, organizational development, and contract negotiations. This is a senior leadership role allowing you to have a real impact on shaping and transforming the advanced manufacturing market sector, by leveraging a differentiating engineering expertise to result in the develop and execute of complex EPC and design-build projects.

The Specifics of the Role

• Develop short and long-term strategic and tactical business plans in alignment with enterprise objectives.
• Develop and execute client development and sales strategy to achieve business goals. This strategy shall focus on both sourcing and building new client relationships as well as maintaining and expanding existing relationships.
• Act as a Clayco account leader, ensuring client satisfaction for future opportunities and expanded services near term. Work to resolve challenges that may arise to keep the client happy during the execution phase.
• Work closely with senior executives across engineering, procurement, and construction businesses, ensuring maximum exposure of the Company’s capabilities and the presentation of those capabilities when appropriate.
• Participate in the development of the Design & Engineering practices by providing technical assistance, subject matter expertise and industry regulatory insight to ensure client satisfaction and compliance.
• Own P/L (profit/loss) results for the Market Segment and work directly with CFO on sales projections, project forecasts and Market Segment budgets.
• Provide guidance to the project team(s) on how to maintain efficient execution processes within a dynamic and ambiguous environment, with limited information, including documenting and communicating design assumptions internally and with the client.
• Work within a matrix environment to communicate and coordinate resource needs.
• Establish and develop trusting third party OEM relationships in alignment with the Market Segment
• Recruit, Mentor, and develop Design Project Management staff fostering collaboration and proper behavior.
• Work closely with senior executives on all complex project and contract negotiations including full-scope EPC services and other Design & Engineering related services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering discipline, Construction Management, or other related technical degree; or significant field experience that has evolved into leadership roles over time.
• 20+ years of progressive experience in EPC delivery of advanced manufacturing projects, with a strong track record managing individual projects valued at $250M or more.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of construction costs and cost drivers, both at the project and unit level. Proficient in contract negotiation and administration.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead large, cross-functional teams, with a focus on mentoring and developing talent. Strong ability to navigate complex challenges, resolve conflicts, and motivate teams to achieve exceptional results.

The Role We Want You For

As a Design Project Manager – Life Sciences, you will lead multidisciplinary design teams in the delivery of complex, regulated facilities for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and advanced life sciences clients. This role spans the full design lifecycle - from early planning and concept development through construction support - ensuring projects meet operational, regulatory, schedule, and budget expectations.

This is a highly visible, client-facing role within LJC/Clayco’s design-build model. You will balance technical understanding, team leadership, and project management rigor while partnering closely with construction, process, and engineering leaders to deliver efficient, compliant, and buildable solutions.

While this role is ideally suited for an experienced design project manager, LJC is also open to senior technical discipline leads (architecture or engineering) who demonstrate strong leadership skills, client presence, and readiness to step into a broader project management role.

The Specifics of the Role

• Lead and manage multidisciplinary architectural and engineering design teams on life sciences projects of varying scale and complexity.
• Plan, track, and manage project scope, budget, schedule, and staffing to ensure successful delivery and profitability.
• Serve as the primary point of coordination between design teams, construction teams, and external consultants to support LJC/Clayco’s integrated design-build delivery.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination reviews to ensure cohesive, well-integrated design solutions, while confirming discipline-level quality control processes are executed.
• Identify and proactively manage project risks, scope changes, and technical challenges throughout the design lifecycle.
• Oversee the development of designs from early planning and concept through detailed design and construction documentation.
• Ensure designs align with GMP, FDA, and other applicable regulatory requirements, engaging subject matter experts as needed.
• Review design deliverables, submittals, RFIs, and change documentation to maintain alignment with design intent and project objectives.
• Participate in site visits and coordination meetings to verify design intent is being executed and constructability concerns are addressed early.
• Serve as the primary design-side contact for assigned projects, maintaining clear, consistent, and proactive communication with clients.
• Lead design presentations, technical reviews, and project update meetings with clients and internal leadership.
• Build trusted client relationships through accountability, responsiveness, and technical credibility.
• Support front-end project efforts by contributing to proposal development, interviews, pursuit strategies, and early project definition.
• Mentor engineers and designers, supporting professional growth and development of future project leaders.

Requirements
