About the Company:

Etegent Technologies is a defense-focused technology company with offices in Beavercreek and Blue Ash, OH. We are a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and management professionals dedicated to developing and commercializing AI/ML/Software solutions that address our customers' most significant challenges and opportunities.

Most important to us are our culture and values. Etegent's culture embodies respect, authenticity, collaboration, flexibility, curiosity, and fun.

The Position:

Etegent is seeking Machine Learning Engineers (MLEs) to work with our Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) group based in the Beavercreek office. MLEs will work in a team environment with Etegent teammates, customers, and other researchers from leading academic institutions, government organizations and commercial entities.

We deliver solutions in the domains of AI/ML, data science, software, and visualization to address geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) challenges for Department of Defense and Intelligence Community (DoD/IC) customers. We develop data science tools to analyze large, diverse datasets from a variety of sensor types (SAR, ISAR, GMTI, HIS, EO, IR). We design and implement algorithms to perform pattern recognition, such as statistical and deep learning techniques, to identify meaningful trends and patterns. We wrap these algorithms in accessible, scalable software to be deployed on customer systems, often requiring containerized software and custom user interfaces for visualization.

This position is based in Beavercreek, OH with the expectation of being in Etegent's office or at a customer facility 5 days a week.

The Candidate:

More so than seeking a candidate with specific niche training, Etegent is seeking a technical leader defined by innate curiosity and a \"product-first\" mindset. They understand that the best model is the one that solves the customer's problem within pragmatic constraints. We need a Senior MLE who is not just technically sharp, but also an effective mentor and a savvy communicator. We are seeking someone who can navigate the ambiguity of client requirements and translate them into actionable research paths for the team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams through the full R&D lifecycle. You will be responsible for aligning technical execution with schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Maintain a 50/50 balance between leadership and technical execution. We need a leader who can both be \"in the trenches\" designing algorithms and can handle project oversight and mentorship.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface for our customers. This involves translating complex algorithmic concepts into clear, value-driven updates and navigating stakeholder feedback with transparency.
  • Architect and oversee the implementation of signature exploitation algorithms. You'll determine the best path towards addressing the customer need – whether by traditional feature extraction or modern deep learning approaches.
  • Support business development and growth. This includes partnering with leadership on the bidding process, drafting white papers, and presenting technical solutions to prospective clients.
  • Elevate the team through active mentorship. You will provide high-level project oversight and lead constructive research reviews to improve the group's collective output.
  • Own the documentation and reporting process. You'll ensure that project updates, proposals, and final reports present a cohesive, professional narrative.
  • Build for scale. You'll drive the development of data science tools to handle the ingestion and analysis of diverse, large-scale datasets.
  • Standardize quality and rigor. You will reinforce best practices for data analytics and performance evaluation to ensure our results are repeatable across different applications.
  • Promote a culture of humility. Encourage an \"ego-less\" engineering environment where diverse perspectives are valued and feedback is focused on the best technical outcome.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the fields of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, or Statistics.
  • 4-5 years of previous signal processing, computer vision, and/or machine learning experience.
  • Previous experience leading project teams for government contracts.
  • Experience maintaining successful relationships and developing business with R&D customers.
  • Experience developing software tools capable of deriving value from large, diverse datasets.
  • Background in data science, statistics, and/or computer vision.
  • Experience with Python, GIT, and Linux.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain up to a TS security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS security clearance
  • Experience with remote sensing data products such as SAR, ISAR, EO, GMTI, HSI, and OPIR.
  • Experience creating python-based user interfaces for data visualization.
  • Familiarity with DoD/IC customers.
  • History of technical presentations and publications in relevant fields.

Attributes:

  • Pragmatic decision-maker who understands when to push the envelope with new research and when to prioritize a stable, proven solution to meet a deadline.
  • Invested mentor who takes pride in the professional growth of junior staff and fosters a collaborative, ego-less environment through active listening and constructive feedback.
  • Independent and innovative thinker with an ability to work in an autonomous environment.
  • Demonstrates curiosity with a focus on innovating solutions for tasks.
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate with teammates and customers to solve problems.
  • Able to take personal ownership and responsibility over their work.

Working at Etegent:

At Etegent, you'll be a part of a fast-growing organization that combines a small-company feel with big-company resources and opportunities.
