JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The EHS Administrator will work mainly with the Environmental, Health and Safety team on ongoing projects, while spending time supporting other functional areas on miscellaneous administrative tasks.

The main functions of the role include:

  • Timely data entry on any and all Safety Risk Assessments that are completed by the teams.
  • Working with plant supervision to perform Toxic Risk Assessment based on active Chemical inventory.
  • Miscellaneous forms of data entry to keep policy, procedure and data up to date.
  • Assisting EHS team in event planning, setup, and breakdown.
  • Providing support with filing, photocopying, recordkeeping and organizing information
  • Working with EHS to schedule appointments for Employees at Occupational Health Vendor of choice. This could include Hearing tests, Surveillance Physicals, Workers' Comp, etc.
  • Organization of "Swag” Inventory (T-shirts, Storage Closets, Filing).
  • Utilizing their educational background and communication skills, students will gain the opportunity to work with all departments to resolve issues and step in to assist where needed.
  • Management of Training Gaps for the facility. Maintaining databases to record gaps closed and assist in holding management accountable to closing area gaps to help create a skilled and engaged workforce.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree Business or related field of study, or currently in a program to complete degree.
  • 2+ years Administrative Experience preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Competent in technical capacity, collaboration and credibility.
  • Strong computer skills. Microsoft Suite of product experience including, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint knowledge required.

As the global senior expert for Chemicals Management & Compliance, you will be the primary compliance advisor for the business in several technical areas, including Dangerous Goods Regulations, Hazardous Materials Transportation and Warehousing, Transport Emergency Response Management and Controlled Products Regulations. You Will:




  • Influence and advise the business on global Chemicals Management & Compliance (CMC) strategy, in Dangerous Goods and Controlled Products.




  • Assess current global compliance status and ensure execution of the Global EHS Strategy,




  • Lead global governance by engaging with partners across regions and departments.




  • Represent us with regulatory authorities and industry associations on CMC matters.




  • Advise management on latest regulations and compliance requirements.

Your Profile:




  • University degree in chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry, engineering, or related field.




  • 10+ years of Chemicals Management & Compliance industry experience.




  • Fluent in English; additional language skills are a plus.




  • Certified in Dangerous Goods transport regulations (e.g. IMDG, IATA, ADR, CFR).




  • Experience with global chemical compliance programs.




  • Chemistry and product safety expertise.

Compensation and Benefits

Position Summary

  • Design and lead the EHS FOCUS program (including annual refresher training [Talk]; monthly Walk activities; supervisor inspections [Detect]; process confirmation [Check]; and award recognition [Together]). Analyze data to continuously improve the program. Provide routine reports to management.
  • Develop and implement programs to improve the site’s EHS culture and compliance -- including behavior based safety; ergonomic awareness, evaluations and solutions; pre-shift workplace stretching; and good catch/near-miss/concern reporting.
  • Manage the Durham site’s VPP Program application to successfully meet NC OSHA requirements for Carolina Star including hosting inspections, audits, document preparation, etc.
  • Provide EHS expertise and support to dispersed workforce (e.g., technicians, sales force, veterinary staff, etc.) of Cattle, Poultry and Swine USA operations. Host monthly safety meetings with colleagues. Complete periodic ride-along visits to observe colleague’s field operations and ensure implementation of EHS programs. Provide recommendations for safety improvements aimed at reducing risks, improving safety culture, ensuring compliance, and reducing injuries. Manage injury logs, workers compensation filings and internal reporting requirements,
  • Conduct routine site audits, safety walks, environmental inspections and other related evaluations (as needed) to identify systemic EHS management gaps. Develop and track corrective measures and implement solutions to sustain compliance.
  • Manage and report EHS-related information (injury/illness, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items) into the Company’s EHS online system (Cority). Submit all EHS reports as required by regulatory authorities.
  • Participate on injury/illness investigations and identify root cause and corrective/preventive actions. Provide coaching on practical EHS behaviors, work practices and solutions.
  • Develops EHS notices, postings, newsletter and other communications, as requested.
  • Participate on the site’s Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee.
  • This role will report to the site’s EHS & Facility Manager and will interact with Operations, Manufacturing, R&D, Facilities, Engineering, Quality, Distribution and office operations including working with all levels of the organization and be visible in the operational areas to support a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environment, safety, occupational health, ergonomics, engineering or a similar technical discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) year of EHS-related experience. (Open to new graduate with related internship or job shadow experience).
  • Professional certification (CSP, CIH) preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of federal and North Carolina safety and environmental regulations and programs including Carolina VPP Star.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills, leadership, analysis, judgment, creativity, practical problem solving, flexibility, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

 Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
 

  • Identify and champion impactful initiatives seeking continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental compliance
  • Establish a site high consequence program to manage severe incidents with fatality (SIF) and ensure flawless execution of site life critical programs
  • Gauge and correct the execution of site EHS programs through inspections, audits, SMATs, cold-eye reviews
  • Coach, mentor, and support the development and guidance of line management on EHS topics
  • Proactively drive awareness and communicates best practices related to Safety, Health and Environment, promoting an autonomous EHS culture
  • As required, meet with regulatory agencies
  • Partner with other key EHS team members during routine calls
  • Oversee the filing of all internal, corporate, and required government reporting relating to regulatory compliance
  • Maintains an EHS compliance calendar, audits compliance system routinely, and ensure compliance gaps are corrective
  • Maintain site required ISO certifications
  • Ensure compliance with site permits and plans (indirect discharge, SPCC, SWPPP, Air)

  • This EHS strategy shall be monitored as a KPI across the site and the incumbent will establish accountability channels to ensure that all levels of the organization delivers EHS results
  • This individual shall also participate and lead cultural transformation across the site to achieve sustainable results
  • Work closely with the Regional Center of Excellence leaders to verify quality of programs and processes via audit and self-assessment tools
     

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (preferably in an Environmental Management discipline, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering)
  • A master’s degree or equivalent is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • 3-5 years of working knowledge and expertise in Environmental regulations and maintaining compliance with pertinent regulations is required
