What You Will Do
Serve as the mechanical engineer to support documentation, mechanical, environmental, structural, and thermal aspects of different stack configurations.
Contribute to a small team of mechanical production REAs supporting mechanical production and development efforts, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with program objectives.
Oversee and manage all mechanical, slice and stack TDP configuration changes, ensuring updates address producibility improvements, yield optimization, and design enhancements.
Lead efforts to analyze and incorporate producibility updates into designs to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce production defects.
Support failure investigations, conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions to resolve systemic mechanical issues.
Provide technical guidance on mechanical design, analysis, and integration challenges, ensuring compliance with program requirements and performance specifications.
Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) practices and lead efforts to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities in mechanical assemblies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, quality, and supply chain, to resolve mechanical engineering challenges and ensure seamless integration of stack configurations.

As a Packaging System Engineer (SE) in our Reed City, MI yogurt plant, you will take ownership of your assigned filling and packaging systems and work with the team to continuously improve performance. You will provide technical leadership for the equipment and processes on your systems. The SE is responsible to identify, develop, and lead execution of solutions for performance improvements and capacity solutions through strong business partnership, strategic productivity, and continuous improvement efforts.

Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrate clear understanding and execution of human and food safety practices in food manufacturing plant
- Demonstrate expertise in manufacturing information systems, quality metrics, analysis methods and procedures
- Leverage and advance system capability through people, process and technology
- Lead and support technical improvements on your systems
- Coach and provide technical expertise on problem solving and continuous improvement activities
- Provide leadership support for Technical Resources (including maintenance technicians, controls TECHs, etc.)
- Identify, vet and implement productivity solutions on your assigned lines.
- Partner with R&D, Quality, Operations, and Engineering/Maintenance to drive system improvements & reduce losses
- Lead development of future state of your systems and provide technical expertise in development of improvement plan
- Develop and champion a system vision, technical road map and capital needs to support Long Range Plan for your systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Ag/Food Process Engineering or related degree with extensive food manufacturing experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communications, strong listening skills, strong coaching/teaching skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and curious to dig into challenges to identify and correct root cause.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, troubleshooting, communications, team management, and human relations skills
- Strong ability to interact with operators and mechanics as well as other departments in the plant and at corporate.

- Ability to read and develop equipment and process flow diagrams
- Ability to work well with computer Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Have a working knowledge of plant manufacturing, engineering, quality, and research functions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years in relevant food manufacturing with Engineering experience
- Experience working in dairy manufacturing.
- Experience with food packaging materials
- Strong Mechanical and Electrical Aptitude

This position is full-time and direct hire, with a salary range of approximately $130,000 - $175,000 / year (depending on education and experience), plus bonus. Relocation assistance is available. Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a similar area of study; MBA is a plus
- 8+ years of proven success in plant leadership/production management roles within the paper packaging industry

Summary
Lead the start-up and operational management of the Spartanburg, SC facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production across manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, and quality functions. This role is accountable for developing and executing operational strategies that align with corporate objectives, health and safety standards, and both short- and long-term business goals. They ensure compliance with federal and state workplace regulations, drive continuous improvement to optimize results and reduce waste, manage budgets and performance metrics, and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and workforce development.
Job Duties include:
- Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with corporate standards, and all federal/OSHA/state regulations
- Lead daily operations across manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, and quality to meet production schedules, safety standards, and exceed customer expectations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve cost efficiency, quality, and service delivery
- Develop and implement innovative operational strategies aligned with short- and long-term business objectives
- Ensure effective utilization of systems and resources to optimize material flow, equipment performance, and workforce capability
- Oversee operational budgets, monitor expenses, and manage KPI’s, including OEE, safety, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction
- Lead and develop cross-functional teams through coaching, performance management, and clear communication
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of operational performance, including maintenance, staffing, and business metrics
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, FDA, and other quality/industry regulations and requirements
- Partner with Human Resources team on workforce planning, recruitment, and compliance with federal and state labor laws
