The Vice Chair for Research will work under the direction of the Systems Chair and in collaboration with other departmental Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs, and Center Directors to provide overall vision, leadership, and coordination of the Department of Emergency Medicine's diverse research team and portfolio that includes clinical, health services, laboratory, translational, operations, and education research. The successful candidate for this position must have a MD, MD/PhD, or PhD. The candidate would be considered for faculty rank of tenured Associate Professor or Professor at RSOM. We seek candidates with current extramural research funding, including federal grants (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, CDC) and other funding agencies. Leadership is an important feature of this position, and successfully mentoring and leading teams of investigators is also an important qualification. This research leader will focus on the development of faculty researchers and expanding the structures that support research in the Department and across the Stony Brook Medicine system. The position will develop an updated research strategy, advance federally funded research , diversify research funding sources, and collaborate with our Center of Excellence for Research and Clinical Trials within the department. The candidate must be experienced in successfully training learners and/or junior faculty in research methods and promoting the independent research careers of these trainees.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate research needs and work with the Departmental and Hospital leadership to analyze and recommend strategic goals (e.g., Space, funding, research management, support, instrumentation, equipment, capital).
