The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) is a uniquely interdisciplinary unit with an intellectual culture of cross-pollination between sociological and historical scholarship as well as work in science and technology studies. HSOC offers a Bachelor of Science degree in History, Technology, and Society and several joint undergraduate minors including Social Justice; Women, Science, and Technology; Health, Medicine, and Society; Science, Technology, and Society; and Sports, Society, and Technology. The School of History and Sociology () at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of history who specializes in immigration and the United States in a period after 1860. We are particularly interested in applicants whose work also includes a focus on women, gender, and/or the U.S. South although scholars of immigration and the United States whose work falls outside of those areas are still encouraged to apply. Due to existing research and teaching strengths in the School, preference will be given to applicants who study non-European immigrants and/or their descendants. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the second half of the U.S. history survey, including possibly online, as well as classes in the candidate's area of specialization that suit the needs of the School. The Department of History is generating an applicant pool of qualified instructors to teach courses in all areas of History (Africa, Ancient Greece & Rome, Byzantine, Early Modern Europe, East Asia, North America, Jewish, Late Modern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Soviet Union, Medieval Europe, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and other various needs), pending openings. Currently identified openings are in Africa, Europe and the Atlantic World 1650-1850, and the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine. Compensation

Compensation for this role is between $50,000 to $64,700.

Starting pay is determined using various factors including but not limited to relevant full-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experience will likely have a starting salary of $50,000.

Job Purpose: Achieve daily business objectives by supporting all shipping and receiving, overseeing inventory, monitoring store supplies, and maintaining back stock effectively. The Stock Supervisor is also responsible for supporting the sales floor as needed. Reporting directly to the store manager.


Stockroom Operations:

  • Supervise stock associates and ensure proper training on all company policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations to Store Manager as necessary to improve store processes.
  • Provide feedback to the Store Manager on stock associate performance issues.
  • Maintain all merchandise in the stockroom by category and ensure that it is labeled appropriately for quick location.
  • Ensure a high level of organization and cleanliness in all areas of the stockroom, including store supplies and fixtures.
  • Manage store supply inventory and create supply orders monthly. Communicate maintenance issues to management in a timely manner.


Inventory Management:

  • Process shipment receipts quickly and accurately. Verify units received; unpack and process merchandise as appropriate (e.g., hang, fold, or stack).
  • Process all store-to-store transfers, RA's, and damage/defective transfers efficiently. Confirm all transferred items are accurate and ticketed correctly and in good condition.
  • Maintain accurate Inventory Control records according to company policy and procedures. Participate in quarterly inventory process.
  • Communicate inventory issues to management as soon as they arise.
  • Maintain 2% or less annual shrink results
  • Organize and conduct weekly cycle counts


Daily Operations and Customer Service:

  • Provide a courteous experience for all customers while on the selling floor.
  • Be knowledgeable about inventory levels in the stockroom; conduct customer merchandise checks and refill the floor as needed.

  • Maintain accurate UPS records.
