Position description
The College of Computing, Data Science, and Society at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach CDSS courses should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester (fall, spring and summer sessions), depending on the needs of the unit.
About CDSS:
Established July 1, 2023, the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) is the first new college at Berkeley in over 50 years. The College was created to meet the demands and opportunities at a time when data touches nearly every aspect of our lives. Innovations in computing and statistics are converging to create unprecedented opportunities to use data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to tackle pressing societal challenges from human health to climate change.
CDSS offers outstanding undergraduate major programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Statistics. Over 1,500 students graduated with a degree in these majors in Spring 2024, and one in four held a second major in another discipline. CDSS undergraduates study with faculty from a wide range of fields, where they gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to succeed in today's datafied world, interact with data ethically, and masterfully engage as informed leaders.
CDSS seeks candidates who can support the success of all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy.
Responsibilities:
CDSS is seeking outstanding instructors to be appointed in the non-Senate Lecturer title series who can teach small and large courses. We are particularly interested in instructors who can teach courses that satisfy the Human and Social Dynamics of Data and Technology requirement for the college. This requirement is designed for the purpose of developing an understanding of how technology and data interact with human and societal contexts, including ethical considerations and applications such as education, health, law, natural resources, and public policy. Examples include: Anthropology of Science, Data, and Technology; Artificial Humanities: AI, Language, and Fiction; and Data and Justice.
Teaching a CDSS course may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g.,slides, syllabus, homework assignments), providing clear and prompt feedback on student work, and maintaining the course website.

ROLE SUMMARY
The Quality Control Analyst, under direct or minimal supervision, is responsible for performing biochemical, physical, and chemical evaluations of process development, lot release, and stability samples compliant with cGMP guidelines. - Provides technical support with troubleshooting of test methods, as needed.
- Identify and contribute to OOS/OOE/OOT investigations related to testing performed.

About the role
Seeking a data-focused Business Analyst to support Clinical, Quality, and Regulatory data initiatives in a GxP-regulated biotech environment.
This role will work closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to translate requirements into data-ready specifications, mappings, and functional documentation to enable analytics and data delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business needs into functional requirements, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Create source-to-target mappings, data flow diagrams, and data documentation
- Partner with Clinical, Quality, and Regulatory stakeholders to define data and reporting requirements
- Work with engineering teams to support delivery of data and analytics solutions
- Support UAT, validation, and testing cycles to ensure requirements are met
- Assist with data governance, metadata, and data cataloging activities
Qualifications
- Strong Business Analyst experience in Pharmaceutical / Biotech / GxP environment
- Experience in Clinical, Quality, or Regulatory domain
- Solid understanding of data models, data flows, and data mapping
- Experience with tools such as Veeva, SQL, Snowflake, JIRA, Power BI, or Oracle
- Knowledge of Agile methodology and requirements lifecycle
- Ability to work independently and communicate with cross-functional stakeholders

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our marketing org. As a Data Scientist you introduce greater scientific rigor into the marketing measurement and optimization processes to shape Pinterest's revenue growth and marketing strategy. The results of your work will influence and drive strategic decisions for the company - identify investment opportunities for growth, understand revenue growth and behavior, and define metrics to grow and sustain our advertiser base. You will collaborate on a wide array of business problems with a diverse set of cross-functional partners across Marketing, Product, Engineering, Analytics and others.
The role is within the Marketing team and would be supporting business marketing efforts focused on driving revenue growth for Pinterest.
What you'll do:
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of advanced marketing measurement frameworks and statistical models to quantify marketing ROI. Marketing channels could be different paid media, organic social, email, in person events, webinars, elearning platform etc.
- Build and deploy statistical and machine learning models such as propensity, forecasting, and lifetime value (LTV) models-to optimize marketing strategies and enhance audience targeting.
- Develop and refine attribution methodologies to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives across multiple channels.
- Assess the incremental impact of marketing activities using causal inference techniques and testing/experiment frameworks.
- Conduct deep, strategic analyses to address key business questions, such as how to improve marketing ROI, how to improve marketing budget allocation to optimize the business impact, measuring the impact of marketing in both mature and new markets, identifying opportunities to increase advertiser growth and revenue through marketing initiatives
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights and strategic recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Design, maintain, and promote dashboards and automated reporting tools to empower stakeholders with self-serve, data-driven decision-making capabilities. Build and optimize ETL data pipelines to automate reporting, support deep dive analysis and feature engineering for analytical models.
What we're looking for:
- 3+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems.
- Masters degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science or engineering.
- Hands-on experiences with building marketing measurement solutions to quantify the business impact of marketing tactics and investments.
- Strong background in statistics and quantitative analysis, with experience in applying advanced statistical techniques to real-world problems.
- Expertise in at least one scripting language (ideally Python/R). Proficiency in SQL/Hive. Ability to write efficient SQL queries.
- Strong business and product sense. Strong skills in shaping vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics that drive business decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, able to lead initiatives and communicate findings to the leadership and cross-functional teams. Explains work and thought processes clearly and concisely.
- Experience leading key technical projects.
- Strong Experimentation background.
- Statistical rigor. Experience with causal inference projects.
