By day 30:

• Complete onboarding and web-based safety/compliance training (Hydraulics 101, J1939 Diag, PPE, LOTO).
• Shadow lead technician on preventive maintenance (PM) routines for front-loader and roll-off trucks.
• Demonstrate understanding of shop layout, work order systems, and diagnostic tools (Allison, Cummins, Mack).

By day 90:

• Independently complete scheduled PMs and minor diagnostics on at least 2 truck types.
• Support evening or off-shift maintenance schedules with minimal supervision.
• Execute basic hydraulic troubleshooting and participate in vendor-led on-site training.

By day 180:

• Serve as a key responder for mechanical downtime within your yard assignment.
• Maintain uptime standards across a small fleet section with 90%+ first-time fix rate.
• Mentor new tech apprentices or junior techs on shop safety, tooling, and SOPs.

• Must have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Reserves, or U.S. National Guard.
• Baseline Skills: Mechanical aptitude, ability to read schematics, understanding of diesel systems.
• Experience: Any of the following:
  • Military MOS in mechanical, aviation, diesel, or maintenance fields (e.g., 91B, 3521, 2T3X1).
  • Civilian experience in heavy equipment, diesel, or fleet maintenance.
  • Strong home/garage mechanical background + verifiable training or references.
• Tools: Must own or acquire personal hand tools; quarterly tool reimbursement offered.

Looking for a heavy equipment mechanic for shop or field with the following skills.

Minimum of five years' experience in the heavy equipment construction repair industry.

Needs to be able to diagnose and repair the following:

• Diesel engines, understand the internal workings, be able to troubleshoot fuel system and engine performance problems (CAT, Komatsu, Cummins, Perkin)

• Hydraulic system control function, hydraulic cylinder repair and be familiarized with control valves

• Power train –differentials, planetary gears, transmission, and drive lines

• Electrical – be able to read electrical schematics and shop manuals

Mechanics must have basic hand tools, power tolls, pneumatic tools, basic hydraulic test gauges and electrical diagnostic meters and toolbox.

Must be familiarized with dozers, backhoes, wheel loaders, skid steers, compactors, box blades and excavators.

Must pass criminal background check and physical/drug screen. Must have clean driving record for field truck positions.

• Have High School Diploma or GED. Trade school graduate in heavy duty diesel repairs, and/or refrigeration
  classes is preferred. Beginning level is preferred.
• Have 1-2 years job experience on diesel repairs, tractor- trailer, refrigeration maintenance and repairs.
• One year documented experience in fleet maintenance or one-year employment with company at upper scale of Class C Technician.
• Possess basic hand tools (up to ½" drive) and tool storage.
• Possess or acquire within 1 year from date of hire a current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) (Test T8).
• Possess a Valid Class C Driver's License. A Class A license is preferred but not required.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp and reach above the head for extended periods of time.
• Preferred certifications:
  • Certification in Transportation Refrigeration.
  • Brake Systems and components.
  • Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license required).
  • Trailer Refrigeration 608 license required if working on trailer units.
