ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Liaison & Coordination

· Serves as the primary point of contact between the OR, PACU, service lines, medical providers, and other departments

· Coordinates multidisciplinary meetings and follows up on action items

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.

2. Two years’ experience as an operating room nurse required.

· Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.

3. VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to read and prepare written documentation.

· Ability to identify IV solutions, medications, etc.

· Ability to utilize computer terminal.

4. EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:

· Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area.

5. WORKING CONDITIONS:

· The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.

We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular & Thoracic Physician Assistant for a 75-day locum tenens assignment in New York. This role starts on Feb 1, 2026, and features a Monday through Friday schedule, 7:00am to 5:00pm, with variable evening call. The position focuses on hospital-based cardiac surgery, operating room first assist, and includes some ICU and floor coverage.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serve as first assist in cardiac surgery cases in the operating room
  • Perform vein harvesting for bypass conduit procedures
  • Insert chest tubes as clinically indicated
  • Retrieve vascular tissues for use in bypass surgery
  • Provide coverage in the ICU and on the hospital floor as needed
  • Participate in call coverage, including 1–2 evenings per week from home
  • Support postoperative patient management in collaboration with the cardiac surgery team
  • Apply advanced knowledge of cardiac surgery and perioperative care

Additional Information
  • Active NCCPA certification required
  • Current New York State license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Board certification in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery preferred
  • Must have prior experience in cardiac surgery, first assist, and vein harvesting
  • Robotic surgery experience is a plus
