Lead the effective execution of all plant maintenance and assigned projects, in support of safety, quality and continuous improvement. Perform all jobs safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant in the areas of Safety, Quality, Reliability (SQR) and our Customer 1st strategy. Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe, efficient and effective use of all supervised craft resources
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Ensure compliance to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), National Electrical Code (NEC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations
  • Direct mechanics in the performance of approved maintenance work including quality control, duration, cost and thoroughness
  • Assign and inspect all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) work orders
  • Review available planned job packages for completeness and correctness; refine and finalize labor, materials, parts, methods and priorities
  • Identify, arrange and track the skills training and development needs of each team member; ensure prompt assignment of mechanics to specific jobs relative to individual abilities
  • Ensure that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followed throughout the facility
  • Clean shop areas daily, including spare parts room and offices
  • Provide support and leadership in troubleshooting equipment
  • Ensure all labor, parts and work are reported daily through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe, quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements

Minimum Qualifications

This position will require the ability to work in a team atmosphere as well as individually to repair, install, adjust, or maintain production and packaging equipment. This will also include equipment that is servo-mechanical as well as electro-mechanically operated. All work needs to be done in a clean sanitary manor as required in a food manufacturing plant. Candidates must be available to work weekends.

As a member of the Maintenance team this role is responsible for effectively troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on CNC equipment including aligning equipment and reading schematics. Be familiar with milling and turning equipment. This role is an hourly (non-exempt) classified position.

Position Requirements
  • Perform mechanical repairs (and rebuild) on all machines
  • Perform machine leveling and alignment on all machines
  • Pull and replace machine linear guides and ball screws.
  • Able to work with complex NC machine up to & including 5 Axis
  • Electrical & Electronic: Diagnose, locate and correct malfunctions of electrical & electronic system such as machine controls, recorders, servo/axis drives, servo motors, defective transformers, relays, contactors, fuses, sensors, etc.
  • Knowledge of OEM machine controllers (FANUC, Siemens and NIT).
  • Working knowledge of tool Probing function for CNC Mill Machines
  • Support with scheduling PM, reading report, diagrams and drawings
  • Plan, layout, and fabricate replacement parts for major rebuilding of precision machine tools where set up and operation to exacting tolerances is required
  • Plan methods required to maintain, test, repair, or modify various types of industrial electronic controls and systems.
  • Analyze and coordinate resolutions of technical problems or assist when solving problems including contacts outside own department as required.

About The Role


We are looking for a reliable and experienced Mechanical & Controls Technician, capable of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, minor programming, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and automated control systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment. This position combines electrical, mechanical, and controls knowledge, ensuring systems function within design parameters safely and efficiently at our Shaw Bakers’ manufacturing facility in San Leandro.


Core Responsibilities


Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:


  • Controls & Electrical Duties: Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic systems, motor controllers, variable frequency drives (VFD), servo systems, and motor starters. Diagnose PLC alarms and repair or replace sensors, actuators, input/output modules and other control devices as required.
  • Vendor Coordination: Point of contact with vendors for PLC hardware/software issues or upgrades, and general mechanical and electrical equipment repair.
  • Mechanical Duties: Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical systems, including motors, pumps, compressors, conveyors, production machinery, and related equipment. Perform diagnostic tests, identify faults, and implement repairs or part replacements. Ensure preventive maintenance procedures are followed to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed records of maintenance, diagnostics, calibrations, and system modifications. Prepare technical reports, schematics, and manuals. Ensure all work adheres to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Training and Support: Providing technical expertise and hands on training and development for operators and maintenance techs on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactive Engagement: Perform area walkthroughs and inspections of the facility and equipment to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Comply with Health & Safety Policies: Follows and ensures health and safety policies are always the first task.

  • 5+ years of Industrial Control Systems Maintenance required, including hands-on experience with motor controls, VFDs, servos, DeviceNet, and PLC troubleshooting.
  • 5+ years of Mechanical Maintenance, including troubleshooting, from a manufacturing or industrial environment required.

Level III Responsibilities

-Mechanical: Greasing and changing parts, making movement adjustments to machinery, aligning linear bearings and motors; drilling, grinding and cutting, basic lathe and milling, welding and modifying parts.

-Electrical: Reading schematics, using voltmeters, troubleshooting relay and PLC logic panels.

-Pneumatic: Adjusting flows, change/repair components

-Plumbing: Replace PVC, copper, galvanized and/or steel piping including making modifications
