Job Description Summary:
Position Responsibilities
- Maintains the appropriate Licensure, credentials and registrations; including but not limited to licensure as Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) in the State of Florida and registration as Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Maintains expertise in medical nutrition therapy in general clinical practice.
- Performs calorie counts as requested and maintains accurate records daily of nutritional care activities, participates in patient tray assessments and meal rounds.
- Develops and implements medical nutrition care plans.
- Performs nutrition assessments and reassessments following departmental policies and procedures.
- Accurately calculates nutrient composition of enteral feedings and parenteral solutions.
- Monitors, evaluates, modifies & documents medical nutrition therapy following established policies and procedures.
- Initiates and follows up on nutrient intake analysis as needed.
- Provides counseling and education to patients and or significant others regarding medical nutrition therapy as needed.
- Develops and reviews educational materials for patients as needed.
- Precepts dietetic interns during clinical rotations: Leads clinical activities for dietetic interns to meet their education objectives, serves as a resources to dietetic interns regarding medical nutrition therapy, monitors and evaluates clinical performance of dietetic intern and reports dietetic interns' performance to Clinical Nutrition Manager.
- Communicates special needs of patients to diet office personnel through use of electronic food service system, email or discussion.
- Provides diet guidelines to Dietary Supervisors, diet clerks, and cooks.

Qualifications
- License/Registration/Certification
- Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Licensed, as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in the state of Florida. Only those seeking to become eligible for the registration examination for dietitians for the first time, on or after January 1, 2024, are required to have completed the minimum of a graduate degree granted by a USDE accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Individuals who established eligibility for the registration examination for dietitians on or before December 31, 2023 or those who are already registered will not be required by CDR to obtain a graduate degree.

SUMMARY: Provide medical nutrition therapy for children with chronic diseases on an inpatient and outpatient basis, including premature infants and children with cerebral palsy and diabetes.Position will include: nutrition management of inpatient and outpatient chronic disease pediatric population; Diabetes educator for the Chicago Children's Diabetes Center. Must have extensive knowledge and practice of enteral nutrition management. Must be able to work 1 evening per week for outpatient clinics.
Essential Functions:
Provide medical nutrition therapy for pediatric patients with chronic and complex medical conditions (inpatient and outpatient)
Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, including anthropometrics, labs, diet history, and growth analysis
Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans in accordance with Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics standards
Serve as a Diabetes Educator, providing carbohydrate counting education and insulin pump training
Manage enteral and parenteral nutrition (including TPN monitoring and lab interpretation)
Participate in family-centered rounds, interdisciplinary team meetings, and discharge planning
Provide ongoing nutrition counseling, follow-up, and monitoring of growth and feeding tolerance
Support outpatient chronic disease clinics, including Telehealth visits
Collaborate with food service to ensure accurate diet orders and specialized nutrition needs
Develop patient and staff education materials and provide training to residents, nurses, and families
Education: BS in Nutrition or BS in Biology or Health Studies with enrollment in Dietetics Program required. MS preferred, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) and/or Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) preferred.
Related Work Experience:
- Level I: Less than 1 year of experience, but must have pediatric experience during internship.
- Level II:1-5 years of experience with pediatric, preferably clinical, experience
- Level III:6+ years of clinical experience
Licensure/Certification: Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Registered Dietitian OR Registered Dietitian (RD) eligible; Licensed in State of Illinois within 6 months of hire.
Specialized Knowledge/ Skills/Credentials: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)/CDCES eligible preferred, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) preferred.
