Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Health Information Management Systems (HIMS) program at Southern University at New Orleans strives to be a premier academic program dedicated to developing the next generation of health information management professionals. Through strong partnerships with healthcare organizations, industry leaders, and research institutions, the HIMS program remains responsive to workforce needs, aligned with accreditation standards, and committed to innovation in HIM education.


The Clinical Coordinator for the HIMS program serves a dual role in teaching and clinical coordination, ensuring students gain the knowledge, skills, and supervised practice experiences required for credentialing and gainful employment. The Clinical Coordinator builds and maintains partnerships with healthcare facilities to secure high-quality clinical placement sites that meet program, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include assigning students to clinical sites based on curricular needs and site availability; coordinating student schedules; confirming student readiness for placement; and ensuring compliance with confidentiality, patient privacy, and health information management standards.


In collaboration with program faculty, the Clinical Coordinator ensures that clinical experiences are fully integrated with the curriculum and aligned with established learning outcomes. This includes providing ongoing guidance and support to students during clinical placements; monitoring performance; offering timely feedback; addressing challenges that arise; and evaluating the effectiveness of both the clinical sites and the overall experiential learning process. The Clinical Coordinator also works closely with clinical site supervisors and preceptors to clarify expectations, provide training or resources as needed, and support effective student mentorship and evaluation.

Consistent with the University Faculty Handbook, Program Coordinators administer individual degree programs within a college and are responsible to the Department Chair. Duties include coordinating course schedules, teaching assignments, and accreditation activities; monitoring and assessing program effectiveness; initiating curriculum updates; and working collaboratively with faculty to support student advisement and overall program quality.

  1. Works collaboratively with the Department Chair and College Dean.
  2. Responds to program inquiries and has a complete/concise knowledge of the Health Information Management Systems (HIMS) Program curriculum and graduation requirements.
  3. Recruits and retains students through graduation. Also, closely works with other HIMS faculty and the Office of Recruitment to actively recruit HIMS majors.
  4. Support student academic performance and timely degree progression by creating academic improvement plans for students on academic probation, and overseeing the coordination of pre-professional opportunities and/or internships (if applicable).
  5. Reviews the program annually to ensure continuous improvement. Lead all efforts in completing the self-study report and program reviews. Also, provide all requested documents for SACSCOC and other specific items/updates.
  6. Develops marketing communications, including emails, web page design, and social media posts, with SUNO’s Public Relations (communication and marketing) and Department Chair.
  7. Develop meaningful relationships with on and off-campus stakeholders to enhance student experiences and ensure successful student graduates.
  8. Actively pursue external funding for program enhancement and undergraduate research (student support) via the grants and sponsor research office.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Required education and experience

  • MA/MS degree or equivalent in HIMS or a closely related discipline (from an accredited university).
  • Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or precepting students or new employees, ideally in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with healthcare systems such as EHR platforms, clinical workflows, or health data management processes.
  • Knowledge of AHIMA curriculum competencies, CAHIIM accreditation standards, and best practices for HIM education.
  • Experience coordinating or supervising clinical placements, student internships, or practicum experiences in an academic or healthcare environment.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of professional experience in health information management, health informatics, clinical documentation, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Current RHIA credential.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, or managing clinical affiliation agreements with healthcare facilities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and guidelines (HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, state health department rules) relevant to clinical training and HIM practice.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data related to student performance, accreditation, or clinical site evaluation.

The Role We Want You For

The Director of Construction is responsible for serving as the main point of contact overseeing the execution of ground-up student housing developments from preconstruction through closeout and stabilization handoff. The Director of Construction will run the owner/architect/contractor meetings, provide answers on behalf of ownership and keep the project team on task including pay application reviews, change order reviews, RFIs and submittals. This role oversees budgets, schedules, contracting strategy, quality, safety, and project controls across a portfolio of active projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery aligned with the company’s design standards, brand, and operational requirements for student move-in.

This leader coordinates internal stakeholders (Development, Design, Finance, Asset Management, Operations/Property Management, Leasing/Marketing) and external partners (GCs, architects, engineers, consultants, municipalities, utilities) to de-risk delivery and drive predictable outcomes.


The Specifics of the Role

  • Partner with Development and Design to translate underwriting assumptions into executable construction plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Lead GC/CM selection strategy (RFPs, interviews, scope leveling, bid analysis, buyout approach, qualifications).
  • Develop and validate GMPs, construction schedules, logistics plans, and phasing strategies tailored to student housing turnover requirements.
  • Manage constructability, value engineering, and scope alignment with brand standards and operational needs (durability, unit turns, amenity performance, life-safety, access control).
  • Identify long-lead items and procurement risks early; drive early releases and supply chain strategies.
  • Direct all construction activity across assigned projects, typically via third-party GCs/CMs, ensuring compliance with contract documents and company standards.
  • Own project controls: schedule adherence, cost forecasting, change management, contingency governance, pay apps, and monthly reporting.
  • Lead OAC cadence and executive-level project reviews; escalate risks with clear mitigation plans.
  • Review and approve change orders, RFI impacts, submittals (as appropriate), and claims strategy in collaboration with Legal/Finance.
  • Maintain strong field presence during critical phases (sitework, structure, enclosure, MEP rough-in, interior build, commissioning, punch, turnover).

  • Drive closeout completion: warranty tracking, lien waivers, final accounting, and lessons learned.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers / Owners Reps (as applicable).
  • Build a high-performing vendor network (GCs, MEP subs, consultants) and maintain preferred partner relationships.
  • Standardize best practices, reporting templates, and construction playbooks across the portfolio.

A Brief Overview

Responsible for the assessment, treatment, and management, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions affecting the cardiopulmonary system for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.   • Evaluates patients in order to receive, review, interpret, and administer the prescribing orders regarding respiratory and cardiopulmonary treatments and tests. Accurately documents patient assessment, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record, as well as submits charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care. Initiates and implements respiratory care plans and interventions to meet the needs of the patient in conjunction with the entire healthcare team to ensure full understanding and cooperation to improve patient outcomes.
  • Performs administration, set-up, titration, maintenance, evaluations and documentation of supplemental oxygen, aerosol therapy, airway clearance techniques, mechanical invasive or non-invasive ventilator management, and preparation and administration of respiratory medications.
  • Ensures airway patency including various means of suctioning. (tracheal, nasal, and oral). Attends and assists to patients in respiratory or cardiac arrest by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency airway care.
  • Performs arterial and capillary punctures, runs venous, arterial and capillary blood gas samples, electrolytes and lactic acid tests and maintains and operates the Blood Gas analyzer.
  • May assist in Pulmonary Rehab by providing appropriate exercises and education to participants.
  • May assist in outpatient clinic as needed and may schedule sleep studies and obtains prior authorizations for the sleep studies when applicable.

Essential Functions: 

  • Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction. 

  • Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and other O.R. team members. 

  • Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment. 

  • Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis. 

  • Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, and families. 

  • Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function. 

  • Initiates and directs room clean up and turnover 

  

Schedule:  

  • 36 hours per week  

  • Day shift: 6:30 am – 5:30 pm with flex to evening shift hours.

  • On call rotation for weekend, holiday and night hours with a 30-minute response time​​

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.   

  • Operating Room experience preferred. 

  • Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.  Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. 

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.  

  • Ability to read, write and speak English language. 

  • Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors, and perform job functions satisfactorily despite the stress of a hospital work environment. 

  • Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of composure or efficiency.

  • On call rotation for weekend, holiday and night hours with a 30-minute response time​​

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.   
  • Operating Room experience preferred. 
  • Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.  Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. 
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.  
  • Ability to read, write and speak English language. 
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors, and perform job functions satisfactorily despite the stress of a hospital work environment. 
  • Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of composure or efficiency. 
  • Ability to perform in situations requiring set limits, standards and strict adherence to established procedures and guidelines. 
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical or unusual situations. 
  • Ability to take direction but also to work independently when appropriate. 
  • Adaptability to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts in terms of personal viewpoint.  
  • Ability to influence people in their opinion, attitudes or judgments about ideas or things. 
  • Ability to make generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. 
  • Ability to make generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. 
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  
  • Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.
