Child Abuse & Neglect Attorney
✦ New
Salary not disclosed
About Ben Hall Law

Ben Hall Law is reinventing what it means to practice child abuse and neglect law in Michigan. We are committed to representing DHHS in a professional manner while providing excellent legal representation and service to our client—and we hold ourselves to that standard every single day. We live by six core values that define how we work and who we are: Fun, Accountability, Service, Teamwork, Integrity, and Excellence. These are not words on a wall. They are the lens through which we make decisions, evaluate performance, and build our culture. If those values resonate with you, keep reading.

Position: Child Abuse & Neglect Attorney (DHHS Representation)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Location: Primarily Remote—reliable commute to court required; occasional in-person firm attendance required

Service Area: Multiple Michigan Counties

Practice Group: Child Abuse & Neglect

Experience Required: 3+ Years in Child Abuse & Neglect Law

The Practice Group

This position is part of a growing child abuse and neglect practice group dedicated exclusively to DHHS representation. The current team consists of a team lead, an associate attorney, a case manager, and a dedicated paralegal. You will not be working in isolation—you will be part of a cohesive, purpose-driven unit where collaboration is the norm and everyone is invested in each other's success and the success of the client.

Position Overview

The Child Abuse & Neglect Attorney will serve as legal counsel to DHHS in child protective proceedings across multiple Michigan counties. This role is designed for an attorney who is passionate about the welfare of children and driven by the belief that high-quality legal representation is one of the most powerful tools available to improve how the child welfare system functions in practice.

This is not a 9-to-5. Child welfare does not keep business hours, and neither does this role. The position requires the ability to respond to after-hours, weekend, and holiday calls for emergencies. If that is a problem, this is not the right fit. If that is the kind of work that energizes you, read on.

The position is primarily remote. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to court appearances across their assigned counties as needed. In-person attendance at firm meetings, trainings, and events is required on an occasional basis. This position is also eligible—and actively encouraged—to attend state and national conferences related to child welfare law and policy.

This Job Is Not For You If...

We believe in being direct. This position is an exceptional opportunity—but only for the right person. Please do not apply if:

You are looking for a strict 9-to-5. Emergencies happen. Children cannot wait. This role requires availability outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

You prefer to work alone. This is a team environment. Collaboration is not optional—it is how we operate. Lone wolves will not thrive here.

You are uncomfortable with accountability. We hold ourselves and each other to a high standard. Mistakes are learning opportunities, but deflection and avoidance have no place on our team.

You are satisfied with the status quo. The child welfare system has real problems. We are here to make it better through the quality of our work, one case at a time. If you have made peace with "good enough," this is not the right place for you.

You have a "not my job" mentality. We aim to provide unreasonable hospitality—not just to our clients, but to everyone we interact with. That means we help each other, we get the job done, and we do not look the other way when something needs doing. Sometimes that means extra time on a night or weekend. Sometimes it means handling something that is not technically in your job description. If you are keeping score on what is and is not your responsibility, this is not the right environment for you.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent DHHS in child abuse and neglect proceedings across multiple Michigan counties, including hearings, trials, and appellate matters.

• Develop and maintain deep expertise in DHHS policies, procedures, and operational realities, keeping current as policies evolve.

• Evaluate facts and applicable law to provide sound, candid legal advice to the client while clearly communicating that final decisions rest with the client, not counsel.

• Draft pleadings, motions, orders, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail.

• Conduct legal research and stay current on developments in Michigan child welfare law, relevant case law, and statutory changes.

• Collaborate with DHHS caseworkers, supervisors, and agency personnel to understand case facts, gather evidence, and develop litigation strategy.

• Provide training and legal guidance to DHHS staff, building the agency's understanding of legal standards, procedures, and best practices.

• Respond to after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency calls as required.

• Engage constructively with judges, opposing counsel, guardians ad litem, and other professionals in a manner that reflects the integrity of the firm and the importance of the work.

• Participate actively as a member of the practice group and the broader firm—sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and contributing to firm-wide goals and culture.

• Represent the firm and client at state and national child welfare conferences and remain engaged with the broader professional community.

• Manage a multi-county caseload efficiently, including calendaring, deadlines, and court scheduling across jurisdictions.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Active Michigan law license in good standing.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in child abuse and neglect law, with substantial courtroom experience in child protective proceedings.

• Expert-level knowledge of Michigan child welfare statutes, including the Juvenile Code, the Child Protection Law, and relevant case law.

• Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex fact patterns, synthesize applicable law, and deliver clear, actionable legal advice.

• Strong understanding of—or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop expertise in—DHHS policies and procedures.

• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.

• Proven ability to manage a multi-county caseload with competing deadlines.

• Ability to reliably commute to court appearances across assigned Michigan counties as required.

• People-oriented professional with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with agency staff, colleagues, and members of the public.

• Willingness and demonstrated ability to provide training and legal education to DHHS staff.

• Availability to respond to after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency calls.

• Commitment to client-centered representation: fully advising the client while honoring the client's authority over final decisions.

• Genuine alignment with the firm's core values: Fun, Accountability, Service, Teamwork, Integrity, and Excellence.

• Self-directed work habits and professional reliability suitable for a primarily remote position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience representing DHHS in child protective proceedings.

• Familiarity with DHHS systems, casework processes, and multi-disciplinary team dynamics.

• Experience practicing across multiple Michigan counties or circuits.

• Experience in formal or informal legal training roles—presentations to agency staff, CLEs, or similar.

• Active engagement with state or national child welfare professional organizations.

What We're Looking For

The right candidate brings more than legal skill—they bring conviction. We are looking for someone who:

• Is genuinely passionate about the welfare of children and approaches this work as a calling, not just a career.

• Is driven by the opportunity to create systemic change through the quality of their daily practice—one case, one hearing, one well-trained caseworker at a time.

• Puts client satisfaction at the top of their priority list and treats the attorney-client relationship as foundational, not transactional.

• Is people-oriented: someone who builds trust with agency staff, collaborates naturally with colleagues, and brings genuine warmth and professionalism to every interaction.

• Holds themselves accountable, welcomes feedback, and is always looking for ways to improve.

• Exercises mature, independent judgment while remaining fully accountable to the client's authority over strategic and case decisions.

• Embraces the full scope of the role—including the after-hours moments that remind us why this work matters.

Compensation & Benefits

Ben Hall Law offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including:

• Salary: Dependent upon experience

• Paid Time Off: 4 weeks of paid vacation annually

• Sick Leave: 1 week of paid sick time annually

• Retirement: 401(k) plan

• Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision coverage

Salary not disclosed
*The Role*

We are looking for a Senior IT Consultant who is as comfortable resetting a misconfigured MDM profile as they are sitting across a conference table from a COO, walking them through why their staff keeps clicking phishing links and what to actually do about it.

This is not a help desk role. This is not a break-fix role. This is a relationship role, supported by deep technical expertise. The right person understands that in our world, the hardest problems are rarely technical. They are behavioral, organizational, and cultural. The technology is almost always the easy part.

You will be assigned to a dedicated set of clients and will function as their trusted IT lead embedded, proactive, and accountable. You will collaborate closely with our founder and existing team on standards, tooling, and service delivery.

*What Youll Do*

* Serve as the primary IT point of contact for a portfolio of 36 client organizations, building genuine relationships with leadership, operations staff, and end users alike.
* Conduct regular on-site and remote engagements not just for break-fix, but for strategic check-ins, technology reviews, and training sessions that actually change behavior. This does include flight travel 3-4 times a year.
* Design and manage security programs including endpoint protection, email security, phishing simulation, and security awareness training with the understanding that the goal is culture change, not checkbox compliance.
* Own the Apple ecosystem: device enrollment, MDM (Jamf/Mosyle), fleet management, onboarding/offboarding workflows, and OS lifecycle planning.
* Lead vendor management evaluating, procuring, and managing SaaS tools, ISPs, hardware, and third-party services on behalf of clients.
* Support data retention, compliance, and policy development for clients in regulated or grant-funded environments.
* Deliver executive-ready communication: clear, non-technical summaries of technical issues, risks, and recommendations for C-suite and board audiences.
* Collaborate with Stiqibits team on internal playbooks, documentation, and service improvement.

*What Were Looking For*

*Required*

* 5+ years of IT experience, with meaningful time spent in a client-facing MSP, consulting, or embedded IT role.
* Deep hands-on experience with the Apple ecosystem macOS, iOS, MDM, and the tools that support them.
* Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships at the executive level with professionalism, empathy, and confidence.
* A track record of driving technology adoption and behavioral change in organizations that are not naturally tech-forward.
* Solid grounding in cybersecurity fundamentals: endpoint management, identity and access, email security, phishing mitigation, and security training programs.
* Excellent written and verbal communication you can explain anything to anyone without condescension.
* Self-direction and professional maturity: you manage your own schedule, own your commitments, and flag issues early.

*Preferred*

* Direct MSP or multi-client IT experience, including client onboarding, tiered support delivery, and documentation practices.
* Experience supporting nonprofits, philanthropic organizations, or impact-driven institutions or a genuine affinity for working with mission-driven teams.
* Familiarity with compliance and data retention requirements common to foundation or grant-funded environments (GDPR, CCPA, donor data governance).
* Experience with tools such as Jamf, Mosyle, Microsoft 365, Entre, Google Workspace, Okta, Meraki, Egnyte, Atlassian Jira, Hudu, or similar enterprise platforms.
* Relevant certifications: Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP), CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar.
* Prior experience in or strong cultural understanding of the philanthropic or civic technology sector.

*The Mindset We Value*

We hire for judgment, not just skill. A few things we hold deeply:

* *White-glove is a standard, not an upsell. *White-glove is a standard, not an upsell.

Our clients chose us because they want a partner, not a vendor. Every interaction a password reset or a board presentation reflects that.

* *Technology is a means, not an end. *Technology is a means, not an end.

We measure success by whether people are more effective, more secure, and more confident using technology. Shiny tools mean nothing if they dont stick.

* *The human problem is the real problem. *The human problem is the real problem.

If a clients staff keeps making the same mistakes, the answer is rarely a new tool. Its better communication, better training, and earning enough trust that people actually follow the guidance. Thats the work.

* *Ownership without ego. *Ownership without ego.

You take full responsibility for your clients' experience. You also know when to ask for help, escalate, or collaborate. Both matter equally here.

*Location & Logistics*

We are open to candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Washington D.C./Metro area, New York/Metro area, Paris, or London. Some travel to client sites is expected. Remote-first with regular on-site presence for client engagements.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. We offer a collaborative, intentional culture and the satisfaction of doing genuinely meaningful work for organizations that are trying to make the world better.

Pay: $135,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year

Benefits:
* 401(k)

Senior Litigation Attorney
Salary not disclosed
Roseville, MN 2 days ago

MNCLS is hiring a litigation attorney, and I should probably save us both some time by being direct.

This is not the right role for a lawyer who needs the courtroom spotlight, a luxury-office backdrop, or a firm culture built on hierarchy, swagger, and billable-hour worship. If that is your thing, there are plenty of places that will scratch that itch. We are not one of them.

We represent owner-operated contractors, along with homeowners dealing with bad contractors and insurance disputes involving storm, water, and fire damage. The work matters. The clients are real. The problems are real. The budgets are real too.

That means most of our cases are not matters that should go to trial. The economics do not justify it. So the lawyer we hire needs to be genuinely good at the part of litigation that actually helps clients: assessing risk, managing cases, negotiating effectively, dealing confidently with opposing counsel, and bringing matters to a sensible resolution. You need to know civ pro and the general rules of practice. You need to be able to carry a substantial docket. And you need to be comfortable practicing against dyed-in-the-wool litigators without feeling professionally deprived because you are not constantly headed for trial.

We also need this person to help lead.

Our firm is growing quickly, and the right candidate will enjoy mentoring others. That matters. I want someone who can help develop younger attorneys and team members, create consistency, support the litigation function, and grow naturally into a leadership role. Not because of title chasing, but because their judgment, steadiness, and flexibility make them the obvious choice.

Culture is a big deal here.

We are not trying to look like the law firm people expect. We respect staff as teammates, not subordinates. We care about how people work together. We take the work seriously, but not ourselves. We bring dogs to the office. We are practical people serving practical clients, and that tends to attract the right kind of lawyer.

We care about delivered value, not billable hour quotas. That does not mean low expectations. It means we are trying to build a sane, productive, client-centered practice instead of a timekeeping contest.

We are also serious about using technology well. We are a tech-forward firm, and the right candidate needs to be comfortable in that environment, especially with the responsible use of AI in practice. We do not pretend to have it all figured out, but we are ahead of most firms around us, and we are looking for someone who wants to keep pushing in that direction.

If you read this and think, finally, a firm that sounds like it lives in the real world, we should talk.
