The intention is to fill this position in the gap between the incumbent DBA leaves, and the position is backfilled, which will take several months.
We cannot afford to not have a resource working on the large and complex applications that we support, including several Tier 1 level applications that belong in the Bureau of Labs, Cancer Registry etc.
As an intermediate-level Database Administrator, this resource will participate in 24x7 software and hardware support for complex applications in several versions of SQL Server, with high availability and Disaster Recovery support, following industry and DTMB development standards.

Purpose
The IT Database Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting relational database platforms in both traditional data centers and Azure cloud environments. The role covers installation, configuration, performance tuning, high availability, backup and recovery, monitoring, and incident response for Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, with participation in an on-call rotation to support mission-critical workloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL in data center and Azure environments (IaaS and/or PaaS as applicable).
- Perform day-to-day database administration, including user and role management, permissions, schema changes, and maintenance tasks.
- Monitor database health, performance, and capacity using native and third-party tools; define meaningful alerts and dashboards for proactive issue detection.
- Troubleshoot database incidents (performance issues, blocking/deadlocks, failed jobs, connectivity problems, resource constraints) and drive root-cause analysis and permanent fixes.
- Design, implement, and maintain backup and recovery strategies (full/diff/log, PITR, snapshots, Azure backup options) and regularly test restore procedures.
- Implement and support high availability and disaster recovery configurations (e.g., SQL Server Always On, failover clustering, log shipping, MySQL/Postgres replication, Azure availability sets/zones).
- Optimize database performance through indexing strategies, query tuning, statistics management, and configuration tuning at both OS and database levels.
- Implement and enforce security controls (authentication, authorization, encryption at rest/in transit, auditing) aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Support application and development teams with database design, query optimization, and controlled deployment of schema changes across environments.
- Maintain detailed documentation including runbooks, standards, topology diagrams, data flows, and operational procedures for both on-prem and Azure deployments.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to after-hours incidents, and perform planned maintenance during maintenance windows.
- Automate routine tasks (provisioning, checks, patching, reporting) using scripts and tooling (e.g., T-SQL, PowerShell, Bash, Python, Azure CLI).
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Database Engineer/DBA supporting MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL in production environments.
- Hands-on experience managing databases in traditional data centers (physical/virtual servers) and Azure (e.g., SQL Server on Azure VMs, Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for MySQL/PostgreSQL or similar).
- Strong understanding of database internals: storage structures, indexing, transactions, isolation levels, and locking.
- Demonstrated skills in performance troubleshooting and tuning using execution plans, wait statistics, and monitoring metrics.
- Practical experience with HA/DR solutions and backup/restore strategies, including testing and documentation of failover/recovery procedures.

The HistoryMakers, a 501 ( c) (3) and the nation’s largest African American video oral history archive ( ), seeks to hire a Non Profit FileMaker Pro Developer to manage, maintain, and modernize our database systems built in Claris FileMaker. Our organization currently operates six interconnected FileMaker databases that support core business operations. The selected candidate will be responsible for cleaning up legacy structures, improving performance, ensuring data integrity, and upgrading the system to the latest FileMaker version. Responsibilities
- Database Architecture & Maintenance
- Analyze and document the structure of six interconnected FileMaker databases
- Review and improve relational schema and relationship graphs
- Identify and remove unused tables, fields, scripts, and layouts
- Ensure proper indexing and relational integrity
- Maintain and optimize the overall database architecture
- Data Integrity & Cleanup
- Identify duplicate or inconsistent records and implement cleanup procedures

Role Description

This is not a passive administrative role.
This role is for someone who thrives on sales conversations, fast response times, and identifying opportunities within a large database. You will be the first point of contact for many prospective buyers and sellers, responsible for responding to inbound leads, qualifying opportunities, and ensuring that every inquiry receives consistent and professional follow-up.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Management and Database Oversight
- Serve as the first point of contact for inbound real estate inquiries

- Maintain clear visibility into the health and activity of the database

Appointment Setting & Opportunity Creation

- Ensure agents are properly briefed on all appointments and lead context
Lead Nurturing and Follow Up Systems
- Create and manage follow-up action plans within the CRM
- Execute consistent follow-up through calls, texts, and email communication

- Track engagement and activity signals to identify emerging opportunities
- Ensure no qualified lead goes untouched within the database
Sales Call Handling
- Answer inbound sales calls and inquiries from prospective clients

- Handle a high volume of conversations while maintaining professionalism and accuracy
- Document key details from all conversations within the CRM
- Escalate opportunities or concerns to agents or leadership when appropriate
Performance and Process Optimization

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Minimum of eight (8) years Microsoft SQL Server experience with strong knowledge and experience on Microsoft SQL Server technology architecture including high availability, encryption at rest, and log shipping.
Skilled in the installation, setup, patch administration, maintenance, and upgrading of SQL Server databases.
Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and Microsoft SQL Server 2022.
Proficiency in performance monitoring, instance optimization, and SQL query tuning.
Experience performing hot and cold backups.
MUST have strong understanding of database hardening, security administration, and security-related tools.
Practice reviewing and implementing monthly security updates.

RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibility is for the day-to-day management of numerous SQL server databases and instances on Microsoft Windows environments including Microsoft SQL server 2019 and 2022.
Research, plan, recommend, and implement patches, upgrades and installations for Microsoft SQL Server technology products, including PSU patches.
Responsible for monitoring database availability, statistics and other application specific parameters to maintain performance of the system.
Responsible for capacity planning.
Develop and tune database environments to ensure performance and service delivery expectations are met.
Participate in the resolution of critical and complex design and implementation issues across projects.
Write shell scripts, PL/SQL, and Perl scripts as needed.
Provide advanced database services to meet the needs of the business.
Provide mentoring to less experienced DBAs.
