Movement Disorder Specialist


The Department of Neurology at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), a major academic medical center within the Hackensack Meridian Health system, seeks to employ a full time BE/BC Movement Disorder Neurologist. The successful candidate will have completed a residency in Neurology & a fellowship in Movement Disorders. Faculty rank at the School of Medicine is commensurate with experience. They will join 3 movement disorder neurologists & 2 functional neurosurgeons. We feature interprofessional programs for HiFU, NPH, fast-track-to- DBS & Advanced Care for Parkinson’s & functional neurological disorders. We seek candidates with interest in outcomes research, clinical trials, translational research, and teaching of medical & graduate students & residents. The Department espouses an interprofessional approach in which neurologists, neurosurgeons & neuro/health psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers & rehab therapists who are cognizant of health care disparities strive to provide patient-centered care, accurate diagnoses, state-of-the-art treatment, opportunities for clinical trials & to maximize community living.


This position will be jointly recruited by Umer Akbar, MD, Chief, Division of Movement Disorders & Professor of Neurology, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, and Florian P. Thomas, MD, PhD, Professor & Chair of the Neuroscience Institute & the Department of Neurology at HUMC & the School of Medicine. The position is mostly outpatient with no more than 4 weeks annually of inpatient service. Compensation & vacation time are competitive with standards in the North East. This position is responsible for connecting students with research opportunities both on and off-campus. The coordinator will organize career and internship fairs, assist the Career Services Advisor in facilitating students' transition from academic to professional environments.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Duties

  • Identify and promote on and off-campus research, internship and fellowship opportunities available to graduate students.
  • Maintain up-to-date website research and internship opportunities for students
  • Foster relationships with faculty and external research organizations to increase research opportunities for students.

 

Career Services:

  • Provide individualized career counseling and support to graduate student’s resources and tools to help students navigate their career paths effectively.
  • Support the Career Services Advisor by partnering with employers, alumni, and industry professionals to participate in career events.
  • Partner with Career Services Advisor in coordinating employer visits and on-campus recruiting activities, understanding hiring needs and match them with qualified students.
  • Provide career guidance to current students and alumni
  • Conduct research to analyze employment trends both locally and nationally.

Collaboration and Outreach:

  • Work with all academic departments, faculty, and other university offices to understand student needs and align services with institutional goals.
