Job Summary
The Electrical Distribution System (EDS) Components Design Responsible Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of electrical distribution system components for Scout Motors’ all-electric pickup trucks and SUVs. Key Responsibilities
1. Component Design and Development
- Design and develop all EDS components including:
- Shields

- Grommets

2. Technical Specification & Sourcing Support
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Finance teams to develop detailed technical specifications.

- Work closely with suppliers to ensure components meet cost, timing, and quality targets.
3. Standards and Component Library Development
- Develop and maintain a standardized library of core EDS components aligned with global Volkswagen Group standards.
- Ensure components can be effectively integrated into vehicle wiring harness and power distribution systems.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with VW Group module owners, internal engineering teams, and external suppliers to define and release EDS components.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture within the team.
5. Verification and Validation
- Conduct virtual simulations and physical testing for component verification.
- Participate in field testing and product validation activities to confirm performance and reliability.
6. Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all designs meet automotive safety standards and U.S. government regulatory requirements.
- Apply Six Sigma methodologies to improve product quality and solve engineering problems.
7. Manufacturing and Production Support
- Contribute to the design and development of production facilities for Scout electric vehicles.
- Support the transition of components from development to mass production launch.
8. Continuous Improvement
- Monitor consumer experience and feedback to identify potential system improvements.
- Proactively recommend enhancements to EDS systems and components.
Required Qualifications
Education

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related
- 16 years of product development experience, including mechanical design experience, project management, and supervision
- Skilled in finite element analysis (FEA), computer aided design (CAD), 3-D modeling, and simulation software; preferably Nastran, FEMAP, Simcenter, and NX CAD
- Good written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel occasionally with overnight stays (0-5%)
- Valid driver license and reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday

The engineer will build, update, debug, and deliver analysis-ready battery pack models integrated to the vehicle BIW, in accordance with Purchaser-provided standards for numbering, mesh criteria, and joining methodology.
Key Responsibilities / Scope of Services
Develop and maintain battery pack CAE models for each major build release including:
Durability models in Abaqus or OptiStruct template (per Purchaser requirement).
LS-DYNA durability sub-models for the battery system (e.g., Ground Strike, Top Strike).
NVH structural battery models in OptiStruct, including full pack content and BIW integration.
Structural Safety LS-DYNA crash models (homogenized sub-assemblies and/or higher fidelity per program phase).
Build full battery model content as required (structure, plastics, HV network, adhesives, potting) and connect to BIW using subsystem include files and master connection files (including BIW-to-subsystem connection files).
Ensure subsystems are massed per BOM; represent non-modeled content using NSM cards / mass elements and manage trimmed mass and CoG targets as required.
Implement joining representations per Purchaser standards (weld/bond/bolt); represent major bolted joints with solid bolt models and preload where required.
Deliver 0 ms LS-DYNA model debugged to pass error-free model checks; include required instrumentation (force X-sections on major load paths, accelerometers at specified locations).
Support high-fidelity explicit pack models as requested (e.g., cells, cooling plates/features, busbars, vents) and provide de-contented variants when required.
Delivery & Reporting Requirements
Deliver models in compliance with the Purchaser Model Checklist and provide a Seller delivery checklist confirming model run-readiness and documenting any deviations.
Report with each full vehicle CAE model delivery: global energy, mass scaling, and total model mass (as applicable to the domain).
Maintain consistent mesh quality and alignment across domains where required.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner daily with the battery module and battery system engineering teams.
- Support new technology development initiatives and integration efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline
- (Master’s degree acceptable with 6+ years relevant experience)
- 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical or thermal system design
Strong background in:
- Battery module/pack thermal design
- Thermal system integration
- CAE tools: FlowEFD, Ansys, Star‑CCM+
- No two‑year degrees accepted
- Internships do not count as part of required experience
- Experience in similar roles such as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Additional Technical Requirements
