Project Management

Technical Skill

• Measure and document product attributes, perform fittings and investigate construction issues with no supervision.  Ability to fully dissect a shoe to fully understand details about construction that affect decision-making conversations.
• Expected to recommend solutions from moderate to complex level shoe engineering challenges that arise throughout the development process.

Industry Knowledge

• Has obtained 2-3 years of footwear development employment history and established a highly proficient level of technical knowledge of development, engineering and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the footwear industry in your ability to recommend relevant and viable solutions to problems, in alignment with generally accepted industry best practices.
• High level of comfort speaking with material suppliers, factory technicians, outside contractors and consultants about shoe development best practices and objectives.

Process & Systems

• In-depth knowledge of company processes with a demonstrated ability to follow and improve those processes.  Understand the limitations of the process and to constantly evaluate for process refinement.
• Show ownership in department systems in your dedication to the timely accomplishment of objectives.  Ability to understand how those systems feed into the greater product team initiatives.

Other Responsibilities Include:

• Assists and contributes ideas for product design, construction, materials, compounds and components to enhance functionality, aesthetics, fit and profit margin.
• Generates a technical development package to communicate intended construction and aesthetic details of each project to factory development partners.
• Examines all prototypes to assure all specifications are correct and within product cost target.
• Facilitate the fit and wear testing at appropriate prototype stage.

Qualifications:

Job Type: Salary exempt, 40 hours per week, Full-time  

• Must be able to regularly commute to the Broomfield office (2-3days per week)
• Pay: $$90,000.00 - $105,000.00  DOE

This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law. The range may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rule 4.1.2.  The range listed is just one component of Xero’s total compensation package for employees. Washington Shoe Company has an opening for a Footwear Designer with strong experience in sneakers, outdoor adventure footwear, and performance-driven design. This role is responsible for creating and developing innovative footwear for Western Chief, Chooka and Staheekum. The ideal candidate brings a keen eye for trend direction, a technical understanding of performance materials, and expertise in designing versatile footwear built for both everyday wear and outdoor environments.

This position requires trend research, CAD development, material and component selection, color design, last understanding, and hands-on participation in fittings. The designer will collaborate closely with co-designers, Production, Sales, and Marketing to maintain and evolve the brand identity.

Key Responsibilities

• Research seasonal sneaker, outdoor, and adventure-footwear trends, including materials, technologies, and color stories; present findings through inspirational trend boards for Sales and Marketing.
• Utilize product selling data and line plans to design 2–3 collections per year, including inline, catalog, and special make-up programs.
• Create detailed spec tech packs, CADs, and design documentation for sample development.
• Communicate with overseas factories and agents using clear visual and physical references to ensure design accuracy and execution.
• Partner with sourcing and costing to ensure materials, constructions, and components meet cost and margin targets.
• Engineer and modify designs based on factory capabilities, performance requirements, and cost considerations while preserving brand integrity and design intent.
• Participate in wear-testing, fittings, and QC reviews to validate comfort, performance, and durability.
• Manage multiple projects from concept and proto development through commercialization and production handoff.

Qualifications and Bonus Points

• Evaluates participant’s needs. Follows-up with participants during treatment, explaining precautions to take. Discusses condition and treatment plans and recommends solutions to participants care problems with Interdisciplinary Team.
  
• Assesses the need for adaptive Durable Medical Equipment (DME), specialized shoes and prosthesis followed by recommendations to Interdisciplinary Team. Receives authorization prior to purchases. Shipping: You’ll be responsible for organizing, stacking, and shrink-wrapping customer orders on pallets.  You’ll be loading trucks manually; lifting, lowering, and carrying product in a fast-paced environment and stacking empty pallets while maintaining a safe and clean workspace as you go.   

Please note, as an SC2 associate you may be moved into any of the above roles, or SC1 roles, as needed.
