Overview

Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.

Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.

Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.

The Cardiac Cath Lab opened in the Summer of 2011 focusing on diagnostic testing. Interventional services will added late Summer, early Fall of 2011. Role Purpose

The Advanced Modality Special Procedures Technologist - CCL/IR/Neuro performs a variety of complex, specialized tasks in all cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.

Responsibilities

- Demonstrate subject matter expertise for the operation, maintenance, quality assurance and troubleshooting of all radiographic equipment used in the cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology and interventional procedures.
- Scrubs and surgically assists physician during, cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures to include: maintaining sterile field, handling of instruments and supplies, participates in placement/implantation of catheters, guide wires and medical devices (ie stents, intra-aortic balloon pump, pacemakers, lead revisions, etc.) operating and monitoring equipment and bi-plane table, and alerts physician to changes in patient condition.
- Performs specialized radiographic imaging examinations to make special study radiographs of designated body portions in accordance with radiation safety procedures.
- Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately to ensure most optimal patient outcome.

About the Biliary Procedural Space

- The biliary procedural space at Barnes-Jewish Hospital offers Registered Nurses the opportunity to work in a specialized outpatient environment providing advanced care for patients with hepatobiliary and pancreatic conditions. Overview

BJC Home Care offers patients and their families a complete range of home care services, including skilled nursing services, adult and pediatric hospice and supportive care, rehabilitation therapy, home infusion therapy, infusion treatment rooms, home medical equipment and high-tech respiratory care. The Acute Dialysis Unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides the latest treatments and technologies in renal replacement therapy to help patients with renal failure. The acute dialysis department has 12 dialysis bays to dialyze patients in the unit, and portable dialysis machines that enable dialysis RNs to travel throughout the hospital and provide dialysis therapy at patients' bedside, if needed. The types of renal replacement therapy we provide are: hemodialysis, CVVHDF, CVVHD, SCUF, SSED, TPE, CCPD, and CAPD. Department hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 24 hours per day.¿ On Sundays the department RNs rotate on-call obligations.

Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. The Psychiatric Center – Delmar Campus is a behavior health inpatient program that is driven to provide a high level of quality care. The 24/7 Cancer Care Clinic features an outpatient treatment area for patients to come in for scheduled appointments to receive chemotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, central line and port care, phlebotomy, etc. The scheduled infusion space is staffed with staff nurses and patient care technicians. There are also Nurse Practitioners in the Cancer Care Clinic who see patients in a patient care room setting within the clinic for symptom management concerns. This allow Oncology patients from the Siteman Cancer Center to receive care for some urgent needs. These patients are managed by the Nurse Practitioners and cared for the the staff nurses and PCTs. Additionally, when patients need to be admitted to the hospital, the Cancer Care Clinic begins the care for some of these patients who meet specific criteria.

- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
