As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern at Elliott Manufacturing, you will have the opportunity to apply learned knowledge and skills while gaining valuable hands-on experience to start your career in Engineering. This internship will provide exposure to a manufacturing plant while also supporting other CentroMotion businesses remotely.

Responsibilities:

1. Establish inventory of manufacturing and quality control tooling.

2. Utilize existing Gage Control software to track tooling (if possible).

3. Establish physical storage locations for all tooling.

4. Implement 6S for tooling, so that missing tooling can be easily physically identified.

5. Establish check-in/check-out process for tooling.

6. Review QC tooling and ensure quantities of tools are appropriate for each tool type (too many/too little).

7. Look for opportunities to reduce QC calibrations for unnecessary and overabundance of tools.

8. Work with operators to create work instructions

Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing / Process Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes for electronic assemblies in a high-mix, low-volume environment. This role supports both the U.S. and Vietnam facilities, ensuring process repeatability, cost efficiency, and product quality across SMT, Through-Hole, and system assembly operations. The senior manufacturing process engineer will report directly to the VP of operations.

Goals:

• Build products and provide services with the highest Flexibility, Productivity, and Quality.
• Achieve total customer satisfaction through technical excellence and responsive engineering support.
• Ensure successful NPI launches through cross-functional collaboration, process validation, and data-driven feedback to design and quality teams.

Objectives:

1.      Support production operations in the following categories:

a.      Reduce downtime caused by engineering issues (programming, MPI errors, tooling, design, or line stoppage).

b.      Improve quality yield through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and robust process setup.

c.      Lead NPI and prototype builds, ensuring process readiness, documentation completeness, and manufacturability validation prior to production release.

2.      Provide engineering services to meet customer needs and expectations in the following areas:

a.      Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

b.      Manufacturing Process Instruction (MPI) creation and maintenance.

c.      Engineering Change Order (ECO) implementation.

d.      Defect Reduction Team (DRT) meetings and follow-up actions.

e.      Failure analysis and corrective action documentation.

f.       Develop and validate new or modified processes, including process capability studies, DOE validation, and reflow/wave solder profile optimization

g.      Other engineering requests as required by customers or management.

Job Description:

SMT / Through-Hole / 2nd Ops / 3rd Ops Process Support

1. Review daily SMT or build schedule to ensure process readiness.
2. Confirm all required items are complete and available prior to production:
3. Job package with full build documentation.
4. Manufacturing Process Instruction (MPI) reviewed and approved.
5. Routing definitions for data collection.
6. Validated reflow or wave solder profiles.
7. ECOs, deviations, or special instructions incorporated into the MPI and/or job package.
8. All required tooling available and verified.
9. Review pre-build DFM, document known defects, and hyperlink details in the MPI.
10. Lead cross-functional NPI kickoff meetings to review design requirements, risk areas, and special process considerations.
11. Document and track NPI issues and lessons learned for future builds.
12. Coordinate with Program Managers to resolve DFM showstoppers prior to build.
13. Analyze previous quality data, identify recurring defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
14. Design, order, and verify all required tooling (stencils, wave solder pallets, press-fit fixtures, conformal coat fixtures, etc.).
15. Maintain tooling logs, labeling, and readiness tracking within Omega Build Readiness.
16. Inspect and sign off first article setups for critical processes (stencil printer, reflow oven, wave solder, etc.) using the First Article Checklist.
17. Inspect initial boards after print and reflow for solder release, bridging, voids, and process anomalies. Document findings and sign off the First Article Report.
18. Provide on-the-floor training for operators and technicians regarding new processes, corrective actions, or observed deficiencies.
19. Support production by promptly responding to technical inquiries or line support issues.
20. Exercise full authority to stop the line if repeated defects or safety concerns are observed.

Quality Data Review & Root Cause Analysis

1. Review production data in Omega Data Collection, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
2. Review Daily, Weekly, and Customer Quality Reports to identify trends, recurring issues, or process gaps.
3. Provide structured analysis and report findings to Quality and Production (using 8D or equivalent methodology).
4. Document corrective actions and verify implementation during the next production run.
5. Present findings and improvement updates in internal and customer quality meetings.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Create and submit Post-Build DFM reports to Program Managers with improvement recommendations.
2. Implement and validate ECO changes per revision control procedures.
3. Perform and document detailed failure analyses for internal and customer returns.
4. Participate in process improvement projects and defect-reduction initiatives.
5. Provide customer-driven engineering services or special support requests.
6. Develop and deliver internal technical training for operators and peers.
7. Support ISO 9001 and AS9100 activities, including audits, documentation, and Work Instruction updates.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
• 8–12 years of hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing (PCBA, box-build, system integration).
• Deep understanding of SMT, Through-Hole, and system assembly processes.
• Proficient in process validation, FAI, SPC, DOE, and yield improvement.
• Familiarity with FactoryLogix and related MES/ERP systems.
• Experience leading NPI builds and developing new assembly processes from prototype through production release.
• Familiarity with DFM/DFT analysis tools and PCB CAD systems (e.g., Altium, Valor, Mentor).
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving tools.
• Strong communication and analytical skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR requirement).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

AME leads new projects right from the inception of the program till manufacturing launch, which includes prototype part development, APQP, manufacturing process planning, FMEA, selection of equipment, tooling design, developing infrastructure, conducting trial production, installation of manufacturing cell, executing PPAP, proving Run Rate, monitoring initial production run, and sign off from production. QUALIFICATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Must have process experience in Machining, Welding (MIG, TIG), Robotic welding, Press Assembly, Fixture, Automation and cutting tools knowledge required

We are launching a new manufacturing site in Salisbury, NC focused on server systems, racks, and liquid-cooled infrastructure products.

• We are seeking a Supplier Quality leader with proven results standing up supplier quality at a facility from ground zero—creating the processes, developing the team, qualifying suppliers, and driving stable ramp to volume. 

• You will lead supplier quality strategy and execution across electrical and fluid handling supply chains.

• You will also manage a team of Incoming Quality Inspectors, establish robust incoming controls and escalation pathways while partnering closely with Engineering, NPI, Operations, and Program Management. 

What will you do ?

New Site Build-Out (Ground Zero)  

• Stand up the Supplier Quality function for a new facility: governance, SOPs, templates, and operating cadence. 

• Establish and deploy PPAP-based supplier readiness expectations aligned to customer requirements and internal standards. 

• Build a scalable model for supplier onboarding, qualification, risk tiering, and ongoing supplier performance management. 

Supplier Qualification, Audits & PPAP Execution  

• Lead supplier capability assessments and qualification activities (QMS/process audits, special process validation, traceability, calibration, ESD controls as applicable). 

• Own supplier PPAP strategy and execution including: 

• Design records & change control alignment. 

• Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan 

• MSA/GR&R, capability studies (Cp/Cpk where applicable)

• Ensure supplier processes support leak integrity, cleanliness/contamination control, material compatibility, and thermal performance. 

Incoming Quality & Supplier Performance Management  

• Lead Incoming Quality Control strategy: inspection plans, sampling, gage control, inspection work instructions, and disposition workflows. 

• Build and manage supplier performance scorecards (PPM/DPPM, escapes, OTD, COPQ, audit performance). 

• Lead containment and escalation for supplier issues (stop-ship criteria, sorting, deviations/waivers, MRB support). 

Corrective/Preventive Action & Continuous Improvement  

• Drive structured problem solving with suppliers using 8D / A3 / 5-Why / Ishikawa. 

• Implement preventive actions tied to PFMEA risk reduction and field/production feedback. 

• Drive supplier process improvement focused on yield, cycle time, reliability, and cost of quality. 

People Leadership (Inspectors)  

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Incoming Quality Inspectors (scheduling, training, work allocation, and performance management). 

• Build training and certification plans for inspectors (inspection methods, blueprint/GD&T basics, gage use, workmanship standards). 

• Ensure consistent execution of incoming inspection and clear escalation to SQE/Engineering.

About the Role

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing Operations team, based in Richmond, California. This role is ideal for a developing, hands-on manufacturing engineer who enjoys working directly in production environments and supplier facilities. Unlike a purely internal manufacturing role, this engineer will serve as the “eyes and ears” of the Manufacturing Operations team, spending significant time in the field supporting suppliers, qualifying tooling and production lines, auditing manufacturing processes, and ensuring quality and operational readiness across our supply base. The ideal candidate will bring experience in one or more core manufacturing processes such as metal stamping, machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, extrusion, or cold heading, with strong preference for metal stamping in high-volume production environments. Manufacturing Manager

Our Manufacturing Operations Manager directs, maintains, and oversees execution of assembly, manufacturing, and production activities for the manufacturing plant which includes safety, yield, productivity, labor, cost, production schedule, quality, continuous process improvements to meet established business goals. Plans and coordinates efficient and economical manufacturing activities through Production Supervisors and provides quality levels and service that exceed the customer’s expectations. Responsible for driving key initiatives to ensure cost reduction, inventory management, delivery performance, and key performance indicator (KPI) targets are met. This will be an onsite position at our North Wales, PA facility.

What will you be doing?

Oversee and manage plant manufacturing activities to ensure safety, quality, cost, and morale to meet and exceed customer and Company requirements.

• Assist in the development of the shop floor production strategy. Review the throughput capacity requirements planning (CRP) report weekly with manufacturing management looking for short-term problems at selected work centers. Review the throughput Load-to-Capacity reports monthly with appropriate management looking for potential long-term constraints associated with manufacturing and assembly work centers. Suggest the use of overtime as required.
• Meet quarterly with sales and operations management to review sales forecast numbers of existing products and new forecast numbers from new product introductions. Using the APS, create a Load to Capacity chart to determine and evaluate the impact of machinery, materials, methods, environment and people for all manufacturing divisions: casegoods, upholstery and bedding.
• Work closely with P &IC Managers in other facilities to make recommendations and implement necessary changes to manufacturing systems to improve flow of materials to achieve standardization of planning systems throughout the organization.
